This is beyond my comprehension . . . I tend to agree with Tracey although I can see some incredible applications with prosthetic limbs . . . I doubt that the cost of using this printer lends itself to churning out plastic garbage for more than marketing. Once this technology is used more widely I can see more positives rather than negatives.

Excellent information! Thanks for breaking this down to a more useable level for us non-scientists Beth.

@BethTerry Yes Beth, I am taking pictures. In fact, I've been taking pictures for the past 3 years in earnest. I'm also shooting images of dead birds and other creatures I find, living or dead on the beach. Part of our data collection process is to photograph what we find. I would love for you to join me for data collection sometime. I do it monthly on the 25th of the month (this month it will be either on the 24th or 26th).

As always Beth, I so appreciate your activism and for inspiring me and many others to work toward a plastic free world.

Jacquelyn, I agree that some people may focus on just one area of concern leaving other areas open for compromise. One thing that often occurs with activism is burn out. When you spread yourself too thin dealing with numerous issues (and there are always an insurmountable issues to tackle, yes?) you tend to either burn out or drop the ball in some area. I would never discourage anyone from focusing on one issue if it's important to them. One step at a time . . . and when you've got that one issue handled OH the JOY! and then on to the next . . .

Thanks for keeping us informed Beth. I had no idea the BPA was in thermal paper receipts! Yikes!

So how about this, we contact these companies that refuse to disclose what they're using in their cans (or in anything for that matter!) and let them know that we will boycott their company and send the word out to everyone we know to do the same and why. Boycotting works because it hits their pocketbooks . . . and let's face it, they're in it for the money.

My awareness came when you posted one of Chris' albatross photos on your 'Fake Plastic Fish' site. That day I began photographing the trash I picked up on the beach. Thank you Beth for giving us information that empowers us to make changes in our lives and to educate others. Chris' film looks amazing!

I can imagine that this is frustrating and a tiny bit embarrassing for you Beth. Such a difficult dilemma this plasticized world we now live in. Know that you're making a HUGE impact in the best of ways with your book, your blog, and your message. Can't wait to get my grimy hands on a copy of your book ; )

I just checked out the 'Salad in a Jar' site . . . fabulous!! I really don't like the idea of purchasing a plastic gadget but this may be the exception for me! I realize this is an old post but would love to know if anyone has tried storing uncut greens in a Glass Lock container in the fridge. The recommendation above is to put greens in an airtight container which surprises me. I've always thought they needed a bit of air (unless vacuum sealed) and moisture to be in an optimum environment.

Thanks for this post and for all you do to educate us Beth!

Thank you for your in-depth response Natalie! And yes, my name really is Darris : )

I like the term 'jobby'. It does describe my past business. It's wise to think about business with the perspective of stepping away from it and asking, "will it still run?" Certainly the way I had it said up the answer was "no". But with some of your suggestions I see how it actually could run without me. Lots of possibilities to consider.

I'm taking baby steps at the moment but I get that you would be a good 'fit' for me in getting my business moving.

I appreciate all you're doing in terms of 'living lightly' . . .

Hi Natalie!

I'm so happy to have discovered you (through Forbes 'Work in Progress'). I've been an entrepreneur consistently since 2001 but have recently entirely 'dumped' my business because it had me strapped to the office.

I'm in the process of shifting to a web-based lifestyle that allows me more freedom to continue my activist-based business but with a more broad-based, further reaching audience. At least that's my vision! I've been stumbling around a bit but have just begun to pull together strategies to get serious. I jumped in and started blogging and now need to 'tighten up' my focus and think about income.

I like your thoughts on improving our abilities. I've recently registered for college again after an extended break. College in my 50's will be a different experience but I'm stoked about the possibilities!

Your reflections about "serve others always" resonates with me. My business was all about serving animals and the environment, things I am passionate about. Unfortunately I limited myself to a relatively small group of a few hundred people when one considers that there are well over 6 billion people on the planet!

As entrepreneurs we are living in an amazing time to grow, learn, and expand. Thank you so much for supporting and guiding us along the way Natalie. I look forward to traveling along with you on this journey!
