This really is the Billy Beane story, but with a different ending.  I wonder if Friedman asked for a piece of the Rays before jumping ship?  The one telling thing I gleaned from all of Friedman's hiring interviews is how depressing it must have been to turn a perennial doormat into a winner, but still no one came to see it.  That's the definition of futility.

@Mike Petriello @ngross32 @Dustin Nosler And none of the players acquired were that helpful either.  I guess it was just two dummies trading useless pieces to one another?  That Fausto trade may bite us one day, but I doubt either player we sent off will be a star.

@Dustin Nosler That article is terrific.  It's easy to forget just HOW many moves Colletti made with Amaro and the fact that Amaro got the better of Colletti not once, but like five times is just ridiculous.  If Ruben Amaro is a grade-A moron, what's Colletti?

@foldamort @ngross32 Hanley Ramirez is awful at SS and EA looks to be elite defensively.  That upgrade should be massively greater than any potential downgrade from Dee (who is average) to Guerrero (who may be below average).  The offensive impact may be huge, but that impact may be offset if Dee were to bring back, say, a decent catcher or relief arm.

I tried to listen to this, but you guys really need to tighten up the programming and cut the nervous humor by about 75-100%.  I know that you're both knowledgeable and I'd like to see that come through more.  Just some friendly constructive criticism.

Very fair post.  Good to see Mattingly dialing back the bunting.  I wish I had a good sense of how much he was bunting this season, but I was only able to watch like 20 games.  Thanks TWC!  At least he shows the capacity to learn ...

I absolutely love this blog, but this piece isn't doing it for me.  Of course Friedman will make a bad move, no one's perfect.  Hell, Ned ran into some good moves.  Obviously, it's a matter of overall track record.  Dodger news went from white hot to stone cold, but this read made me say "duh, which is a word I don't use often.

This move is so obvious the article could have just been one line telling us that you support it.  Dump this punk and bring up Yimi or Paco.  When Uribe's back, we still have Romak, Rojas and Triunfel on our active roster and squarely in need of removal.

@DBrim  Well, interesting to see that someone with a reverse platoon split may actually somehow adjust to life as a platoon player and completely buck that trend ... not sure I buy it, but we'll see.  Still wouldn't have minded Mark Ellis in this Role (777 career OPS v. LHP) and I have to think that we Guerrero MUST be up sooner rather than later.  A month of seasoning in the minors is fine, but we've only got him under K for four years.  There's no worries about his clock and he honestly looked to me like a better option than Dee already this ST.

@Barney G @ngross32  Why do it at all?  Why prepare him for a role that he has no business playing?  I think it's clear that Gordon has won the 2B job.  Since then, Donnie's hinted at him possibly leading off and now he has for the last few games... I understand it's ST, but even toying with that idea demonstrates a high level of incompetence.

Get Guerrero back out there!!!  I can't believe they're handing the 2B job to Gordon considering his past performance and his Spring Training OPS of 600.  At least let the spring play out ... way too early to see Gordon take that job.

Also, what is up with all the "hella" usage in these comments?  That word is terrible and should not be used by any self-respecting Dodger fan.  Even in jest.  Seriously.

Those are nice projections for SVS, which I assume must be taking into account that his ABs are coming mostly against lefties, but either way a 740-800 OPS platoon player is useful.  I think SVS can carve out a nice playing nice spelling AGon and CC/Ethier and coming off the bench.

@DBrim  I get it.  Seager doesn't have future 80 power ... that makes sense.  Not 75 either.  But 65, 70?  No?  I mean, he projects for 25-30 HRs.  That would put him in the top 25 of ALL of MLB.  That's a 60?  It's not your fault, I'm just trying to understand this system, which maybe should just be changed to average and above and below.
