What I find interesting is the posts that tell people that they should basically harden up and take the heckling. Would you walk up to a person on the sidewalk or in the home depot and tell them they are fat or blocking you and to get the f out of the way 'cause you are a loser? I doubt it. You'd likely get confronted right back in your face. Or get something else in your face.
It's kind of hard for to stop during their race, where they are full on anaerobic to let you know that you are being a dick. Being a dick outside the tape is pretty easy. Kind of like being an anonymous poster on a cycling site.
Heckle the pros or your friends if you feel the need, but doing to the cat 5 racer that just started 'cross is makes you a dick in my book.

Kenji, it's very unfair to compare your series to any USAC or UCI race since you all have your sh.t together. You guys don't even use course tape! And when it comes to barriers, bring on the 6 pack!
11 months ago on Poll: Riding Around the Barriers – Fair Game or Should Be Penalized?
The official answer is that someone didn't evaluate the course properly. Being able to negotiate around the barriers should not be an option. How many hundreds so stakes are put out during these races and no one noticed the barriers weren't properly staked?

Maybe due to their lack of experience every other rider did miss it. Outside of Ben and Zach, how many of the racers have competed in Europe? Raced the world cups and world championships. There are a some 'cross camp alums and worlds team members, but few have raced in the cutthroat races in Europe.
As to Zach being a genius, quite possible. He is studying aeronautical engineering. Guess that could make him a rocket scientist.

It is the UCI officials job to preview the course and make sure these types of issues don't occur. I'd have like to have heard the conversation between Zach and the official. I'm wiling to bet Zach knows the UCI guidelines better than almost every official in the US.
Please, Mike Plant, listen to the racers and promoters, especially those that run non-USAC races. Please, please do not do to 'cross what USAC did to NOBRA.

Let the games begin. USCX or CXNC. Thanks to the hard efforts of Lyle Fulkerson, Bruce Fina and numerous independent race promoters that have brought about previous national series' , it appears that USAC now $ee$ the value in our sport. They did such a fabulous job with NORBA, why shouldn't they get the same opportunity with 'cross?

@sydspinnin With mandatory upgrades, you could easily have a 15 year old or younger racing in the 1/2 race. They only have to win two cat 3 races. To me that could be detrimental for a few reasons. National races for their age would be at or under 40 minutes. For some the extra time of a 1/2 race is good, for others not so much. Also, the goal for the juniors is to teach them how to win races. The jump from winning a couple of cat 3 races to finishing mid pack in the 1/2s could be very deflating to a teenager. These kids are the future of our sport and turning them into winners is a huge boost for their confidence. Learning how to ride at the front of a race is a wonderful learning experience. Kicking the butts of the 20-40 year olds is another plus for them. Remember they are teenagers. Faster than us, but still just kids.
