@Python 1 Do you mean they should have had authorisation to kill the unarmed civilians, like they almost did in the book?

@whoknows32 By chance I've just read the awful book, it is full of factual errors, exaggeration, etc. See http://www.darack.com/sawtalosar/ for a more realistic depiction of the heroic but illfated stuff that happenened and why. I was shocked that the SEAL team was so close of committing a war crime. I have a few questions yes. Many others have too I understand from browsing the web.

Pretty soon women will enter the 75th Rangers, so from that point on, yelling "elevate those feet" will no longer be allowed.

What are the chances that some time ago the NSA had a super secret project that created someting called the TOR network? Of which they secretly can monitor the info flows? Now that would have been some move!

BUD/S is really tough for anybody to go through. But once passed, am I wrong to assume that SOF operations afterwards (usually...) are not as strenuous as BUD/S? If I'm not wrong, if a woman passes BUD/S, she would be qualified for ops.

Excellent piece with statements that are seldom found in the mainstream media. If only Americans would start looking in the mirror and assess the cost/benefits (action/reaction mechanisms) of their actions in foreign territory. For that, more knowledge and understanding of other cultures is essential. But how many can accurately pinpoint say Alaska on a map?

@JackMurphyRGR  We use dogs for wild boar hunting, knowingly risking their health/lives, so the cuteness is not the issue here. I'm just surprised that such expensive dogs are used in this specific way, it's not something every "SWAT"-like outfit (apologies HRT) employs.

But I do hope that the new Distinguished Warfare Medal is posthumously awarded to Ape instead of 9-to-5 drone killers.

History Channel TV has a nice episode in it's History's Raiders series called The Desert Raiders which presents the special operations in the North-African desert as mentioned above.

The whole series is interesting by the way, lot's of early commando/SF stuff.

@Romadave  I understand why they are in Africa, it's beautiful and they really need help, but then leave your children in a relatively safe place, do not take them to the most remote area of Cameroon near the border with a.o. Nigeria, take notice of the other attack the day before, and beware that terrorists are very active all over the region hunting for French citizens.

And now French SOF members have to risk their lives too.

In this region there are no safe areas anymore for Westerners, let alone French. So why the hell take your kids there, to high risk areas (in this case formerly thought be safe, yeah right) where you're easily kidnapped?
