@Barry Beck I think he's got a lot of work still to do to be a legit centerman in the NHL but I for one wouldn't mind seeing Miller get a change on the wing with Nash and Brass. For now, keep MSL, Step and Kreider together and put Zucc on line with Hayes and Stempniak and 4th line of D. Moore, Fast and Hagelin
2 days, 18 hours ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@scrangersfan @TruBluEsp Sitting Glass, Fast or Hayes would not serve the same purpose as sitting Zucc. My original statement above was not clear as I mean to sit Zucc for a game or 2 not on a permanent basis. Maybe sitting out a game or 2 will have they same impact on his game as it did last year. Regardless ... 1 goal in 18 games from a top 6 player is NOT acceptable. Don't care what the name on the back of the jersey says. BTW .. I agree about Hayes as well. Giving the kid a breather might do him some good. Calling up Lindberg to play center in Hayes' place might be a good idea. If Lindberg shows he can handle the NHL and can win faceoffs then maybe it's time to consider moving Hayes to wing.
AV should sit Zucc. I have always been a big fan of his but that pass he made was plain stupid, he doesn't shoot enough and 1 goal in his past 18 games calls for a sit and reboot. With that said, he's not the only problem. Boyle plain and simple sucked last night. Hayes can control possession at times but he might need a night in the booth. If D. Moore is our 3rd line center, we have issues down the middle. Hell .... I'd bench Zucc right now, put Hayes on the wing and call up Lindberg to see what can be done. Miller should stay in the lineup.

Stupid! Sitting Miller for Stempniak???? Can't figure AV out

@JMK8363 @TruBluEsp In order to do a blockbuster, he would need to mortgage the future (Kreider, Miller, Skjei, Duclair, Buchnevich) which I am not in favor of. If Sather is able to make a trade to better the team I'd like to believe it would be with someone the likes of J. Moore, Hagelin, Fast, Kristo, Haggerty. Just have to be wary of trading a lot for a rental player such as Sekera. Obviously the cap comes into play as well. To me, it's tough spot. With Lundqvist and MSL getting up in the years, do you take a shot now by mortgaging the future? Personally, I say no. Also, trading Hagelin isn't as clear cut to me as to others. He's a key depth forward for us and trading him could leave us with a hole. depending on what they get back and the development of some kids in Hartford. Last ... I agree about Lindberg. I would like to see what the kid can do on the NHL stage and with Stepan out, these next few games would have been a good test for him. Early enough in the season to evaluate if he's an answer of if a trade would be needed later on this year.

@JMK8363 I agree with your argument not to blow up the team but Rangers didn't trade for Redden, Gomez, Drury or Richards. Those were free agent signings. Those are an indictment of Sather's bad free agency signings. I would say Sather is better "trader" than "signer".
@Barry Beck Your trade proposals are just plain absurd. Buffalo in rebuilding mode will NEVER trade a 24 year old dman for a soon to be 30 year old dman coming off two major injuries that will demand a huge contract. Next .... You don't trade Hagelin, a proven commodity in the NHL, for a potential rental player in Sekera. Conor Allen .. yes and another fringe AHL prospect. Nothing more. Lastly .... please stop with the Hall is a superstar rant. He's not a superstar. Crosby, Malkin, Toews, Kane, Stamkos, Tavares, Perry, Getzlaf, Ovechkin are superstars. Hall is even in the same category as these guys. Trading 5 players for Hall is just plain stupid.

@Barry Beck Explain to me why Buffalo would trade a 24 year old dman in Myers for Staal who will be an unrestricted free agent and command a $6 million/year salary. Would make ZERO sense for Buffalo to make that trade.

I'm a big fan of his BUT why isn't anyone saying we shouldn't resign Zucc next year? Was last year numbers a one time thing and is he a legitimate top 6 forward? I think these are valid questions and I'm as big a fan of his as anyone else on this blog. If Miller keeps playing this way, there is no way they trade him. My personal opinion is if AV wants his 4th line to be a possession monster, the 4th line should be Hags - Moore - Stemp. I wouldn't mind seeing a 3rd line of Miller - Hayes - Fast, 2nd line of Kreider - Stepan - St. Louis and 1st line of Zucc - Brass - Nash. As for Staal ... I can see Sather letting him walk at the end of the year and signing Skjei. D would be settled from Mac/Girardi/Klein/Hunwick/Moore/Skjei/Allen/McIlrath. If he does trade Staal, it better net us a D and a Forward.

@gravey94 Pretty sure they are hoping Brady Skjei makes the jump to the NHL this year. They wanted him to turn pro this year with the belief he would be on the NHL roster by the end of the year if not make the team right out of camp.

@Matteau Matteau Yeah because other GM's won't see this themselves and will want to take on a contract for a goalie who is "diminishing". Wow ... The guy carries us for years, he's only 32 years old, just finished leading us to a SC finals appearance and you want to trade him b/c he's started slow this year .... After what 26 games???? Why a West Coast team??? Is that because you wouldn't want him in the East b/c we'd have to face him? To quote Aaron Rodgers ... "RELAX!"
@MikeBlue I laugh at fans who admonish players for not taking a hometown discount. If the organization is willing to pay you, you expect them to say "No thanks. I'll take less?" So your boss comes to you and says "I want make our department better. I want to bring in more employees to better assist with the workload we currently have but in order to do that, I can't give you the $5000 raise you would normally get. Will you be ok taking a $3000 raise instead?" You really want me to believe anyone would be happy to do so? Bullshit and don't tell me you can't compare thousands to millions. When player A sees player B making x amount of dollars and player A is much better then they want to be paid as such. Also ... You don't seem to factor the players union into this. They want these contracts signed and so do the players because it sets the market for future players. You want to blame Lundqvist for the contract he signed? How about blaming the Rangers organization for giving it to him instead. If they had any sort of goalie prospect in the system, they could have used that as leverage to make him a lower offer. But no ... Rangers didn't have any goalies in the pipeline so Lundqvist had them by the balls. Enough about Talbot. He hasn't played 50 NHL games yet and we think he can be a top goalie. He still has a lot to prove. Let's see how he does against the top teams in the NHL first. You want to trade Brassard, huh? Yeah ... let's trade a 27 year old #2 center who has 20 pts in 24 gp this year and has been one our best playoff performers the past 2 post seasons. How do you plan on replacing him and with who? I won't argue the Girardi deal but if you think that's a bad deal how could you be in favor of giving Staal, at the very least, the same contract ... because that's what he'll want. Losing Staal after this, if it does happen, will not ruin this team. I'm not saying he's as good or as talented but I will argue that Hunwick has played better than Staal this year.
@gravey94 Kreider doesn't seem to be the same player since he got booted from the Minnesota game. Almost seems like he's afraid to assert himself for fear of getting a penalty

@Barry Beck How about a 3rd line of Hags - Hayes - Duclair and a 4th line of Miller - Moore - Fast??
2 months, 2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Hate the 3rd and 4th lines. Sorry but Duclair should be on the 3rd line tonight with Hags and Hayes and Moore should be centering the 4th line with Glass and Fast. Stempniak should sit out. Plus ... I'm going to the game tonight and this is the lineup I want to see live!
@NYRwegiian @TruBluEsp That should read Kreider on line with St. Louis and Hayes. Stempniak on the 4th line with Mueller and Glass
2 months, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
I don't like those lines. Would like to see Nash reunited with Brass and Zucc. That line was great the other night. Hayes with St. Louis and Kreider and Stempniak on the 4th line.
@Cally11 Yeah b/c Buffalo in re-building mode would want to trade a young d-man like Myers for Girardi's contract and Miller who has not shown he can stick in the NHL. "Huge softy" = 75% of the Rangers lineup so trade them all?
3 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@rangermom @KSRAGER44 If Hayes plays well at Center, I can see him sticking as 3rd line center. 4 centers would be Step, Brass, Hayes, Moore
3 months, 2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Hope Mueller can win a faceoff! 4th line Sunday should be Mueller - Hags - Malone. I don't mind Glass but he's in the lineup for one reason and that is to add toughness and sandpaper. So far, he hasn't accomplished either. Would rather Malone in the lineup who they can plant in front of the net on the PP.
@IhateGaborik @rangermom So was Miller, Jessiman and McIlrath. Point is being a first round pick doesn't guarantee anything
3 months, 2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/2014-articles/hey-its-not-all-bad-with-the-rangers.html
@Billfrom Brookhaven @TruBluEsp @SmellyKisio Yep .. I agree with you but if he's not going to put Malone on that line, why not try Duclair? Like you said, early enough in season to experiment. Or maybe try Miller on that wing
3 months, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@betweentheworlds Agreed ... Once agan, outside of Glass, this team has no "sandpaper". Malone is NOT sandpaper. He is big, strong wing who will drop the gloves if necessary. I whined (yes I use the word whine) last year about this and AV's lineup decisions and he took us to the Cup finals so I guess I will have to tone down my "whining" this year ..... for now!
Why not try out these lines tonight if Glass can't go:Kreider - St. Louis - NashDuclair - Brass - ZuccHags - Hayes - StempMIller - Moore - Malone/Fast
@SmellyKisio Why not try Duclair on the wing with Zucc and Brass?
@scrangersfan @Scott from SEC 224 Didn't you want to send Duclair back to juniors last night in another post YET you want to call up Lindberg who was invisible in the pre-season?
@scrangersfan @ObviouslyTwoPointsAreGreat So one game and that's it? If he scored 2 goals last would you have his bust being made for the HOF? I guess after 1 game then the Rangers should also send Miller and Fast down to the minors b/c they didn't really impress either. Point is .. it take more than 1 game to evaluate if the kid can make it. Let's give him the full 9 games first. I would love to see him on the line with Brass and Zucc and move Hags to the line with Miller and Stempniak.
@Billfrom Brookhaven And who do you have replacing Staal?
4 months ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@stRangers fan Nothing positive from a Stanley Cup Finals team that lost and Brad Richards (besides leadership, wasn't going to bring much to the table offensively), Boyle (4th line center but key role player), Pouliot (Sorry but 1 year wonder) and Stralman (Ok .. tough loss here but not irreplacable)? How can you NOT see anything positive with some of the young talent that is making it's way up the through organization. Miller, Hayes, Lindberg, Fast, Duclair, Buchnevich just to name a few. Seriously .. get a clue.

Don't understand why Lombardi would even be an option. This is a perfect opportunity to give the kids an opportunity to show they belong. 2 center spots up for grabs. I know this would be crazy and NOT happen but how about this to start the year:Zucc - Brass - NashHayes - Lindberg - HagsKreider - Miller - St.LouisMalone - Moore - GlassLombardi or Stempniak can be the extra forwardDisclaimer: I know the likelihood of this happening is slim to none but there's a part of me that would love to see this to start the season but ONLY if Hayes and Lindberg show they can hack on the NHL in pre-season.
@KevinTheNYRBlog @TruBluEsp Kevin ... aside from Stempniak, Rangers also signed Tarnasky. A big, rugged forward that could play 4th line. Thoughts on him?
5 months, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@KevinTheNYRBlog @TruBluEsp I'm not that big of a believer in Stempniak. He is what he is. Do you think it's totally out of the realm of possibility he plays 4th line with Moore and Glass? My post is made under the assumption that both Lindberg and Miller earned NHL spots. It's just that I would not put Lindberg on the 4th line.
I know Stempniak will most likely play 3rd line but what are people's thoughts about Lindberg centering the 3rd line with Miller and Hags on the wings?
@TomDundie @ThomasDimopoulos So you're saying San Jose will trade Thornton for Hags and Klein straight up???? Pipe dream. Besides ... Do you realize Thornton cap hit is $7 million??? Wouldn't work
6 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@kevin11 I can see how 3 years might be seen as too long but I think he'll bring more to the 4th line than Dorsett. Besides .... It's not that big of a cap hit.
7 months ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/2014-articles/free-agency-tracker-7114.html
@kevin11 Not sure if they could fit it under the cap but I would love to see a 4th line of Moore-Glass-Carter
@kevin11 I hear you but I like the signing and I'm pretty sure both of us would say the same about Carcillo but look how he worked out. I guess what I"m saying is ... One never knows.
@GetTheKingACup @TruBluEsp @Say my Name He's got size. 6"1, 210 ... we'll see
@Say my Name Puck-moving dman who does not play a physical game. Depth dman to replace Falk
Meant to say minority
Love the Moore signing. Great deal for both. Like I said in an earlier post, the key to the 4th line is D. Moore. I may be in the majority but I like the Glass signing. He's gritty, bigger than Dorsett ,AV knows him from their time in Vancouver and will drop the gloves. 3 years might be too much but he's only 31. I have a feeling they are penciling in Miller on the wing with Zucc and Brass, sign a depth forward (Carcillo???) and have a kid battle for 4th line mins. on the other wing
I was not a Boyle fan but he won me over as the season progressed and then in the playoffs he cemented himself in my favor. BUT ..... He has an over-inflated sense of worth if he thinks he's more than a 4th line player and PKer. To me .. the key to the 4th line is Moore. Get him two gritty, fast, big grinding forwards and I think the 4th line will be fine. Boyle was great on the PK but can be replaced. They still have Hags, Moore (if he resigns which I think he will), Stepan, Nash, Zucc and St. Louis. They all killed penalties last year. As for Pouliot, I don't mind bringing him back but I think Brass and Zucc will find chemistry with whoever they put on the wing due to their vision on the ice. Give them time and they will make it work.

@AL55S Can't trade Girardi ... Has a no movement clause in his contract for the first 2 years of the deal
7 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@sb24 Only problem is you're trading a superstar (Malkin) and getting a rookie, back-up goalie to be a starter and it would have to be Staal as Girardi has a ntc for the first 2 years of his deal. Even if you throw in a 3rd player (Brassard, Fast or Miller), none of these are top 6 forwards. Pitt would be crazy to do this deal.
7 months, 2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/2014-articles/report-joe-thornton-only-wants-to-go-to-the-rangers.html
@TomDundie Eric Staal carries too big of a cap hit. Won't work.
@BringBackBeukeboom Girardi has a no movement clause for the first 2 years of his contract. He's not going anywhere
7 months, 2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@TomDundie Question .. How do you plan on the Rangers fitting Eric Staal's $8.25 million cap hit over the next 2 years? Buying out Richards, trading Hags and J. Moore won't cut it while they still have to re-sign Zucc, Pouliot, Brassard, Kreider, Boyle and D Moore. Sorry .. I like your thought process but won't work under the cap.
@Sniper Turcotte Unfortunately, Richards retiring would not bail Sather out. It would still hurt the Rangers cap. Stiff penalties.
8 months ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@EquusBiz @TruBluEsp @Brukie_ Not saying he would retire but it is something that can potentially happen and that would hurt the Rangers. Your point actually lends itself toward the Rangers "should" buyout Richards.
@EquusBiz @Brukie_ That is not correct:Per the CBA reached in January 2013, teams receiving a "cap advantage" from long-term contracts (defined as seven years or more and entered into prior to the execution of the new CBA) will be penalized in the event the player retires or "defects" from the NHL before the contract expires.
