Telfair was phased out. Brown is phasing out. Dudley next? The Gortat injury has expedited the tank. I predict next Lindsey Hunter reduces Dragic's minutes in the final 10 games in the name of "developing" Marshall.

@hawki Dudley was fine off the bench, in a 25-30 minute vacuum. I still feel he's a quality back-up. Having said that though, this isn't the 2010 Suns anymore. The front office has to consider everything, when this roster is in such disarray. I suspect Dudley will be packaged along with Markieff Morris and Scola or Gortat this summer to clear cap room. The Suns should have no trouble getting that 3rd pick.

Really disappointing game from the Suns. Toronto just seems to have way more athletes, that's what it boils down to.

I agree about Markieff Morris' weak post game. I'm sick of him jacking up shots from 20 feet. I really think it's time to consider packaging him in a deal with Gortat this summer to loosen some cap space.

The Suns are in a real predicament. You think they have all this cap room. But realistically, it's not as much as it should be. Beasley at $6 million is already a waste. Frye is still being paid at $6 million.

The only hope you can have is that Babby is able to move Gortat, and Scola this summer and sign a scorer such as Monta Ellis. Then hopefully get lucky and draft a solid 4/5 in the draft. Even these moves don't guarantee a playoff berth. But I'd be intrigued to see an Ellis, Dragic backcourt.

Hopefully with Gortat out now, we can officially tank hard now. Maybe Dragic should pull a Gilbert Arenas, and fake an injury to get Marshall more playing time.

For one night, we got to see a fun game. I enjoyed it. Yes, it was the same script right until the 3 minute mark. But Hunter finally went with a big front line (Gortat, O'Neal) and a tall athletic back court (Morris, Johnson) O'Neal was vintage. The lowpost offense is something we sorely need as a franchise, and for tonight it was there. Gortat was playing great defense on Duncan. PJ Tucker did a great job forcing a late turnover. Marcus Morris looks like he could be a competent scorer given time. I know it's one game, and the Spurs looked flat, but this was the game of the year. I'm glad I was home to see it tonight. I agree with O'Neal getting a two year extension. He does seem to be enjoying his time here as a team captain.

@the real shazam Agreed. Last time we were this bad record wise was 03-04. But that team had tons of cap space, and young talent. This Suns team will have to buy a star or two and hope to get lucky in the draft. It's bare minimum another 2-3 seasons away.

1 year, 9 months ago on Goran Dragic needs help; Suns' lack of deals an NBA trend

The Spurs just moved the ball well against a Suns' defense more hideous than Ginobili's bald spot. In all seriousness though... I think this could easily be the worst Suns' roster in history. Aside from Dragic, and Gortat occasionally what do we have? I really hope the front office stumbles into dumb luck. Dumb being the operative word.

@hawki  No doubt. Planet Orange has become inhospitable these days. Unless the front office can ink two big name free agents this summer (ex. Millsap, Ellis) we better get used to the lottery for a few more years. The only hope is that the losing gets too much for Robert Sarver to handle, and ticket sales plummet even further, so he sells the team.

1 year, 9 months ago on Josh Smith trade rumors involving Suns crop up again

@john manhole There's nothing ridiculous about my claim. Sarver's penny pinching started once the housing bubble burst. He lost a lot of money in real estate and in his banking corporations. He actually took government bailout money for one of his banks. As a result, every move from about late 2007 onward has been to dump salary for cap space. He was paying Marion who Colangelo extended. Yes, he paid Shaq but look what Shaq was moved for... expiring contracts. He did re-sign Nash in 2009, but that was a no-brainer. His problem is cutting corners plain and simple. He'll spend some money, but ration it amongst role players who don't help your team compete. He's refused to pay money to keep his top level execs around. Sarver tries to operate the Suns on a budget. He's done absolutely nothing to make the Suns better since he single-handidly decided to tear apart a respectable 2010 team that was knocking on the door of the Finals. Until I see Sarver show a willingness to bring in and pay for: a qualified front office staff, coaches, talent evaluators, and ultimately talent, I'm always going to be skeptical.

The only two players on the roster worth keeping are: Dragic, and Dudley. Everyone else needs to go. Sarver is going to learn real fast that taking shortcuts to winning never works. This team should've had some young assets ready to take over now (Rondo, Fernandez, Hibbert, Faried) but thanks to some horrific cost cutting measures year in and year out we'll be stuck in lottery land for at least the next 2-3 years. You almost have to root for this situation to get as bad as possible for the hope that Sarver snaps and sells the franchise.

I'd be surprised if the Suns could find a taker for Gortat this season. Boston would've made sense prior to Rondo getting injured. But realistically, what team wants to give up picks and young talent for a slightly above average center who's nearly in the final year of his deal? I still feel Gortat, Morris, Marshall, LA pick to Charlotte for Diop's expiring contract, and Biyombo makes a lot of sense for the Suns. The Bobcats need veteran players, and the Suns need extra cap room to sign a couple of star players this summer.

1 year, 9 months ago on To trade or not to trade: Marcin Gortat

Michael Beasley won't be around past next season. His final year isn't guaranteed. I think Ellis and Dragic would compliment each other well. Dragic can just focus on the occasional pick and roll, instead of being expected to create for everybody else.

Looks like the Suns have quit. It's your move now management. I'd start by trading: Gortat, Morris, Marshall, and Brown if possible. They may need to include the LA pick. Hopefully, the Suns can get an expiring contract, and a young prospect in return. I still like sending Gortat and the LA pick to Charlotte for Diop's expiring deal, and Biyombo. Then the Suns have to draft Muhammad at 4 or 5. Sign Monta Ellis to a 5 year $60 million dollar deal. Sign Millsap 5 years and $50 million.

@Sunsfan4life No thanks on Bogut. The Suns need to be focused on getting more athletic. Bogut is too expensive, and injury prone. I'd deal Gortat, Morris, Marshall, and the LA pick to Charlotte for Diop and Biyombo. Suns save $7 million for FA, and get a defensive PF/C in Biyombo. Charlotte gets an additional pick and a legit starter in Gortat. I think Monta Ellis is exactly what the Suns need personally. He can create his own shot. He will take the pressure off Dragic to create. You'd have one of the fastest backcourts in the league with Dragic & Ellis. Then if the Suns can get lucky and draft Shabazz Muhammad at SF you get a versatile athlete who can score from anywhere. Then sign Paul Millsap at PF, and a C such as: Mozgov, or Dalembert and you've got a hell of a starting 5.

This roster is just such an utter fail. Soo many draft busts it boggles the mind. What could those scouts have seen in Morris that impressed them? We coulda had Faried, and likely could've built around him for the future. I just hope for once, just once, the Suns get something right.

We need to grab Nerlens Noel in the draft. Sign Paul Millsap, and Monta Ellis or Tony Allen in free agency. Package: Gortat, Morris, and Marshall to Charlotte for Diop's expiring deal and the Cats' 14th pick. Use the pick to draft a defensive SF.
