Hey Joey....

Excellent comparison. Asham in his prime....legit middleweight who could take on the occasional heavy.....also similiar fighting styles...especially when Asham was younger...Asham in his prime...would just stand there toe to toe.....and throw'em. Glass....is like a younger Asham.......just not as crazy. ;)

Good post.

Love this signing!!! 20lbs heavier than Dorsett...hits harder than Dorsett.....can play either wing...and from a toughness standpoint...in another class than Dorsett. Dorsett...instigator....lightweight...was forced to play an enforcer role with at times.....which led to him getting hurt early on in the season. I felt bad for the kid...taking on guys well out of his class..........

Tanner Glass is a LEGIT MIDDLEWEIGHT. And this kid doesn't dance...when he drops the gloves...he stands there and throws them toe to toe....and he hits hard.....and can eat a punch.

Get much out of him offensively....nope. Will he take the occasional bad penalty.....yep. But you live with those penalties.  Rugged, tough players take those kinds of penalties from time to time.

Great signing.....keep'em coming.....:)

Peace........

Hitting is an important part of the game......especially in the playoffs.....when its about wearing down your opposition. It's a war of attrition.  Wearing down your opponent, turning them over, changing momentum.......and Scaxx.....since you loved all my old posts...

What have I always said............there is a proper balance to the game....it is part finesse....part physical..........go to far off in either one direction.....and you will never beat a properly balanced team.  That's just how it is kid. I played in the 90's by the way..............I'm not that old. ;)

Hey Joe.....

Not used to being the villain here...but I'll get used to it I guess. ;)  I'm just a couple of years ahead of the AV curve.........most of you will be with me down the line.........heck, if not for the Mason injury, half of everyone here would already be with me.....because we would have been bounced in the first round.

I just call them like I see'em......and I even posted after the Bruins series last year that maybe Torts should go because he "lost sight" of the physical aspect of the game.

But the Rangers went from a total "hands on" coach....to a total "hands off" coach in AV.

As a player, never liked the hands-off style of coaching........I never minded being chewed out for my mistakes. I liked being held accountable........I like brashness and toughness in a coach.........................

AV is and will never be my type of coach. AV caught a lot of breaks.....and the Rangers made a smoke and mirrors run to the finals. But the smoke and mirrors are gone.....said after Game 1 I would be shocked if it went 6 games.........and sadly, it looks like I'll be right.

For those of you enamored with AV...........enjoy the hands off approach for a while....knock yourselves out....have a blast. But you will all come around to my line of thinking.........and it wont take that long either. Just got to bide my time....tap...tap....tap.

Peace everyone.............

Down 2-0 in the Cup Finals.....Game 3 in your building.....do or  die......

And you are outhit in the 1st period 8-6?????????????????????

6 freaking hits?????? Try 16-20 hits......that's what kind of 1st period it should have been......

And this is the problem with this team and this coach.....physicality and passion......and why they never had a chance against this Kings team.

The NY Rangers organization should issue an official apology to Rangers fans everywhere.....especially those fans who went to the game............

Because that 1st period........was a disgrace. Pure and simple.

@Say my Name @McPhee37

Hey Say.....

Thanks for the love....right back at ya brother.

7 Games....7 games....it went 7 Games. Well, technically you're right....it did go 7 Games.

But let's look at the series a little more closely......

The first two games of that series the Canucks were playing extremely chippy, borderline dirty....and taking liberties with Boston's skilled players. Those are the facts. Then Coach Julien made his move....facing a possible 3-0 deficit. Coach Julien inserted Shawn Thornton into the line-up.....and that move changed the entire tone of the series.

Now remember...the Canucks were up 2-0!! And Coach Julien puts in his enforcer. Thornton literally punked out the entire Canuck team. He got about 12 minutes in penalties...in that third game. and he pretty much did whatever he wanted. What did AV do about it? Nothing. And what happened after Thornton's insertion into the line-up.....the Bruins won four out of the next 5 games......outscoring the Canucks by 21-4. And in that 7th and final game....Thornton Campbell and Paille......were blowing up every Canuck defenseman who even tried to touch a puck. They kept the Canucks pinned in their own end every time they were on the ice. That 4th line, even tho they didnt score....was probably the best line in that Game 7......not sure what the final score was in the game 7....a real nail biter...3...or 4 to ZERO. LOL

Now, how many fights did Thornton have in that series?? Answer: 0. It was just pure intimidation.

And this is not meant for you Say, but for others....if anyone out there does not think that Thornton played a major role in the Bruins winning the Cup that year...well...its shows two things....one....you never played hockey before.....and two.....you don't know much about the sport.

I'm not an AV fan.......I like uptempo hockey......but i like PHYSICAL uptempo hockey. That means taking the body.....the bigger the game...the bigger the hits should be. The word physical doesn't mean just fighting....it means outhitting your opponents, finishing your checks....no love taps. You catch a guy with his head down....you blow him up. You hit hard....you play nasty and with and edge. And sure...sometimes playing physical does mean dropping the gloves....whether to stand up for a teammate.....or standing up for yourself......or to send a message....or to change momentum.

Physicality has many different meanings when it comes to hockey. Some people here get that......some people here just don't get it.

And AV is about to lose another CUP because of physicality. To even have a prayer against this Kings team....you're going to have to outhit them. And i don't want to hear that same ol' lame excuse.."but we don't have that kind of roster".  ABSOLUTE NONSENSE!!! Anyone on the ice can throw a check....and they can do it every shift.....every single player. And that's where Coaching comes into play.....sometimes....you have to demand it of your team. And AV just doesn't do that.

And that's why the Kings are going to win this series.....heck...i'll be shocked if it even goes 6 Games.

Sadly, I'll be posting here again on a regular basis in a couple of weeks.

One last post........while I have access to my kid's computer......

Think back people...........

AV had a chance to win the Cup once before.....and one man ruined it for him...his name was Shawn Thornton. His insertion into the line-up changed the entire tone of that series.....Canucks had no answer for him.......

And now, physicality is about to bite him again.....in the form of the LA Kings.

Hockey is about balance.......finesse and physicality. We are not properly balanced.

The Kings are going to win this series.....there is no hope. Hate to be the messenger.....but you all should have seen this coming. We are not physical enough. Period. End of story.

My wager still stands....Rangers win....I'll delete my account. Anyone who disagrees.....make the same wager.

Hey Gang....

I've missed you all during this playoff run.  Won't have my new computer for the next couple of weeks........

But while I have access for the next hour or so.......

The title of this post will be......" Why The Kings Have Beat The Rangers And Have Won The Stanley Cup: A Contrast Of Styles: Physicality vs Finesse"

Now, i know a lot of you won't like this post......but i will try to break down quickly why the Kings have already won the Cup...........this series was over before it even started.

The Rangers playoff run has been a mirage.....pure and simple.....but most Rangers fans either can't see it or refuse to admit it.

Physicality has been this team's problem.  You all know where I stand on this issue....you've read plenty of my posts. I've said it time and again....not many teams can skate with us........but from a physical standpoint....we are lacking.

Quick break down of each series......

Series # 1......The Flyers. The Rangers should have been bounced out in the first round. AV was out coached. And even tho we were clearly the more talented team....the Flyers took us to 7 games. Why?  The Flyers physicality....and most importantly......and the first part of the mirage....the Flyers did not have Mason for the first three games of that series. If Mason is healthy and plays those first three games.......The Rangers are bounced out in the first round....and probably in less the 7 Games.

Series # 2.....The Penguins.  Who did the Pens play in the first round....the Blue Jackets....and this is the second part of the mirage....the Blue Jackets hit the Pens nearly 300 times in a 6 game series....you add that many hits to the hits the Pens threw.....and let me tell ya...it takes a physical toll on the body. They were a physically weakened team.....and still took a 3-1 lead against us. But to the Rangers credit....the last 3 games of that series we outhit them 95-62........and outhitting teams is not really our strong point. But we were fortunate that the Pens played the Blue Jackets in the first round.....they play a less physical team in round one.....we don't win that series.

Series # 3....The Habs. Physical teams give us a tough time right? So who did the Habs knock out so we didn't have to face them....the ultra physical Bruins.....and that's the third part of the mirage. The Habs nowhere near as physical a club.....and play more of a skating style....which is right up our alley....like i've said before...not many teams can skate with us. So, this was a dream match-up for us....and to to boot....they lost Price. We play the Bruins....we don't win.

Series # 4....The Kings. And this is where the mirage ends.....and reality kicks in. This is all you need to know about them.....they've played three 7 Games series to get to the Finals. And they out-hit us 45-33 last night. This is who they are....they hit......the mirage is over.....physicality vs speed and finesse. And physicality will rule the day in the end.

I know the game of hockey well.....and have played it.....which is why people owe me a lot of money this morning. And I've bet the Kings for the series....and I'll win that too. I've been a Ranger fan since the 70's....but I know easy money when I see it.....and I bet with my head....not my heart.

But since there are no 100% pure locks.....and since i can't bet with you all here......i'll make you all a wager.....if the Rangers win....i will delete my account here. Pure and simple. My hockey knowledge screams that the Rangers can't win the series.......its not that i don't love the Rangers.....its just that I know this game too well.

Sadly, I will be back to posting when I get my new computer.........because the mirage is over.

Peace..........

Hey Brad,

The toughness I wanted? You don't have any idea what I want...lol.......

The Rangers have been fortunate so far.....played a Pens teams that got physically drained by the Bluejackets......which showed as the series went on since we out-hit them 95-62 in the final three game of that series.....and out-hitting teams is not our forte'.

Then we get a break by not playing the Bruins, and playing a team more suited to our style(skating).....not as physical. Then of course Price gets injured.....

Not going to applaud what Prust did......but I totally understand why he did it. His team is down 2-0.....they had to do whatever it took to win that game. Dorsett did what he had to do and stood up for his teammate.....that's how it works. Nothing wrong with it.

Still have a 2-1 lead.....but it will be chippy the rest of the way....

Hopefully, this post will make it. Last few i tried....didnt post. i can't even load this page without computer crashing.....at least i got on this morning.

Keep the faith gang......

No more long rants. Pens were dead on their feet last game....the close to 300 hits absorbed in 6 games by the Jackets....the close to 40 hits they threw in Game 2(throwing a hit also takes its toll)...then play the next night....and they were dead.....and still won 2-0. Ooooh....the Rangers threw 30 hits? Maybe you should have throw 40....50.....or 60 like the Blue Jackets...and physically taken that Game three. But alas...no.

5 Ranger forwards in that game 3....in a freaking playoff game... combined total of hits... 0.

Totally unacceptable....

Game 4....rant....

Here's a great example of what i'm talking about. Did I say anything about expanding fighting? Did I say...."Hey, let's have bench clearing brawls again!!"" Nope....didnt say that.

What I said was...let the game be played the way it was meant to be played. And this is another thing people dont get....players get it...fans don't......do you know why there are more injuries and concussions nowadays? Because the NHL to increase offense....made the game FASTER!!!!   The NHL caused this...a great example....cracking down on interference.

Let's say a puck is dumped in the our o-zone....and let's say...Staal goes back to retrieve it. Now, let's say I'm on the ice...either as part of his pairing....or I'm a forward getting into position or backchecking......

And I notice as Staal is going to the boards to retrieve the puck, I see the opposing forward skating hard, getting ready to line him up and blast him.....I would hook the player to slow him down......now if i hooked the player too hard and take him to the ice...a penalty gets called. But if I hooked him enough to slow him down, then the hit on Staal would not be that big of a hit....lowering Staal's chance of injury on the play.

That "slow down" or "protection hook" was never, ever called....back in the "stone age".

But in today's game, you can't do that anymore. It's an automatic penalty. So now players come in full speed. So, in an attempt to increase the flow and get more offense......the NHL put their players safety at risk. Great job NHL!!!! Looks like it was a little safer in the "stone age" than you thought eh?

As for women's hockey....good for them. Who says a woman can't play hockey. But they wouldn't survive through a period in a men's league. Men and women are built differently.

Hey, i watch women's hockey from time to time....but its not men's hockey. Nothing to do with being macho. It's just is what it is.

It's really tough for an older guy like me to watch and read about hockey.  Back in the day, you wanted to stand in front of or near the crease.....you had to earn that right. When you got "cleared out"....you really got "cleared out".  So, Staal gave him a two hander to his neck......Oooooooooo. I've seen and done sooooo much worse.

All sports are going the way....of what I call the "sissy-fication" process. Football...you can't touch a receiver...you cant lead with your head...and heaven forbid you touch a QB. Baseball....you can't bowl over the catcher anymore....man....I used to that in little league!!

But hockey....even tho...its going through the sissy-fication process.....its the hardest sport to do it to. Why? It's the most violent of sports. Guys...moving a fast speed....carry sticks with blades....do you guys even knows how easy it is to cut someone with the blade..just a little flick....and you've drawn blood. This is why fighting has always been a part of the game......its used for defense of oneself....the protection of a teammate....its used as a tactic......to spark your team.......intimidation.

If the NHL was smart.....they would go the contrarian route.....do the opposite of what the other sports are doing. I'll give you an example....

People whine and complain about the fighting and the nasty nature about hockey and how they need to get rid of it.

I don't have kids of mine own. have stepkids and step nephews.....they're all teenagers now and some in the early 20's. NHL playoffs are starting......and the kids, nephews and their friends....have come to my house to watch what? The NHL Playoffs??

No. They have gathered together to watch an MMA event. Mixed Martial Arts fighting. Two guys beating each other bloody in an octagon ring....until the other guy gets knocked out cold....taps out...is choked out....or is put into a painful submission grip.

That's what kids are watching today. And that "sport" is HUGE. Growing by leaps and bounds. Why?

So, I showed one of my nephews one of  the hockey games i had saved...not even sure which one it was....it was i recorded because i knew it was going to be nasty game. I just didn't show him the fights....and had him sit down...watch....some of the game...the pace...the flow...the hits....and what led to the fights. When the first fight broke out...his first question was.."how long will they be suspended for that'? I laughed....and said.." in this sport...you have to sit in the penalty box for 5 minutes...and then you can come back into the game....no suspension....fighting is legal"

Now that Nephew is watching hockey. Why?

Because its a manly, tough, violent sport. Boys are boys...physical by nature....and those boys grow into men. Back in the day...men used to be tough and rugged.....now they get pedicures, manicures..worry about the way they dress.....it is a sad transformation to watch.

So, my advice to the NHL....go the contrarian route. You don't have to go back to the crazy days of the 70's and 80's....with the bench clearing brawls. But get rid of the instigation rule....get rid of the stupid helmet fighting rule.....get rid of getting penalized for fighting in the last minutes of a period. That used to be a time of a game where scores were settled and messages were sent for the next time the teams were to play each other.  Officials....put the whistles away..and let the guys play the sport the way it was meant to be played. Let the players go back to "policing" the sport....and taking care of players who stepped out of line and did something cheap".

Go this route.....you will expand your fan base....guaranteed. For people who don't like it....watch international hockey. .....but leave the NHL alone.

To the NHL....embrace the tough, manly, physical and violent sport that you are. Don't turn away from it......embrace it...promote it....and see what happens. You'll increase the young part of your fan base by a ton.
