It took a players meeting for it to happen........but finally....a line-up i can be proud of. ::)
Coach Veeno....how you've handled the physical part of the game with this club has been a disgrace. And after Dorsett went down....to have zero toughness in the line-up....in my eyes....you should be canned. I do not approve of your "new age" coaching style....and I'm sure Boyle and Falk's faces dont approve either.
But there is always a chance for redemption. And tonight is the night. You have an old school line-up in place....let your tough guys do their thing. You have a chance to change the attitude and culture of this club when the puck drops tonight. No more being pushed around. No more of Hank getting bumped in the net.....no more of our skilled players getting run at...night in and night out......
Enough is enough. It stops tonight.
Allow your tough guys to play tough.....and the rest of the team will follow suit. A whole new Ranger persona could be born tonight....all you have to do is not get in the way.....and let men play like men.
Go out there tonight boys....and send a message to the league....the soft NY Rangers are dead. The Broadway Bullies are here. Act instead of reacting.....intimidate instead of being pushed around.
Get out there boys...and bounce this Columbus club out of the rink. If you got to spill a little blood to do it.....do it. Got to break a stick across someone's back because their screening Hank.....get it done. A skilled player of our gets hit......you retaliate immediately and without mercy.
Now let's tear'em up!!

I'm not a fan of Veeno. I did not want him as head coach....I would have preferred an "old school" coach. Veeno is more of a "new age coach". And these new age coaches don't truly understand the value of toughness and the art of intimidation. But before I go off on a tangent, let me try to stick to the topic at hand....which is McIlrath.
As I have said over and over again since I joined this board....and "old school" classic line-up..has three components.
2) The Middleweight
3) The Enforcer
We now have all three components. Dorsett as the instigator. Asham as the middleweight....McIlrath as the enforcer....but McIlrath needs to learn. I've seen him fight...he has a tendency to fight out of control...he tends to throw and twirl. He's often off balance. He will need to learn how to stay squared....keep his opponent controlled with one hand....he needs to work on the technical aspects....but that will come. Asham will be a great mentor for him.
I can relate very much to the spot that McIlrath is in right now. In my playing days....I made the the team because the coach was looking for toughness and an intimidator on defense. I played at 170-175lbs. Not too intimidating right? But I played with passion....and an attitude....nastiness. My coach always told me..." I don't care about the penalties you take, as long as the penalties send a message."
You hit one of my skilled players....you would pay a price. You planted yourself in front of the net....you would get a vicious cross-check to the back...or slash to the legs. The opposing teams forward coming into our zone to freely.....I'd give a player a good raking with the shaft of my stick. Make opposing players feel uncomfortable....make them think where i am on the ice.....when players "are thinking...they're not playing".
Veeno has chance to change the entire attitude of this club. Let Dorsett, Asham and Mcilrath do their jobs. You live with the penalties..."as long as the penalties send a message". And if you do this, the rest of team's attitude will change. They will play bigger.....become more aggressive. When you play tough......it is infectious.....in a good way.
It's time to become the Broadway Bullies. Don't screw it up Veeno.

He better start. If you dont hold players accountable.......Veeno's stay in N.Y will be a short one.

HA! Pilgrim squirrel. Good job Joe.
Hags needs to sit on the bench for a while after that penalty...jeez
Get Dorsett and Asham out for the second shift on the 2nd period. Cmon Veeno......just tap him on the shoulder.....and say..."make something happen"
Moore stooped skating which allowed a sweet pass to beat him. He keeps skating hard.....he possibly ties him up
the truth hurts
I hate those love tap checks.....Moore...you have him line-up against the board.....finish THROUGH HIM!!
Was the Moore? He stopped skating.....good pass....goal
Kreider playing tonight....or is this one of his no-show games? ;)
That's it Veeno....first shift....get Dorsett out there. Stir thing up.....hope the rest of team follow suit.
I'm not a Veeno guy. I dont want to play like the Red Wings....I want to play like the Bruins. Intimidate....enforce your will.....hit non stop.....someone hits one of your guys....you take him out. My style of hockey.
Cant knock anyone there....short crisp passing
I come from a different era I guess.....I saw Willie Plett have stick broken over his head for something he did......

Once again....when the code is violated....players will make you pay the price. Oprik thinks he can just blow people up....and not suffer the consequences...
Next time he lays a big hit and he's challenged...i bet he drops the gloves
Once again Josh....when you unload on a player like Oprik loves to do.....you have to drop the gloves when challenged. If not.....you lose respect...and then bad things happen.
If Oprik would have dropped the gloves when first challenged after the hit.....the Thorton play would not have happened. You want to unleash big hits on players....you better step up and answer the bell when challenged
Ugh...got to clear him out of the way DZ......
Don't know what everyone here's opinion what on the Thornton play with Oprik...but Oprik had it coming. I had no problem with Oprik's hit.....but he went against the "code". He was challenged a few times....and didnt answer the bell. That's a no-no.
That should have happened to Oprik last year when he nearly decapitated Kreider....
