@smonroe I could definitely see that.

@erhall01 @Kyle Rodriguez It would've made more sense if I'd worded it "yards per drop back."

@smonroe good ol' FN. I'd like to see those guys make the PS too. Harnish will probably be there again, unless they see someone better on the waiver wire (which I doubt)

Just finished a counter offer for a client and sat down and re-edited this. It should be cleaner and better flowing now.

Eh. The point is not to care too much about the result of a preseason game. I could've picked any past preseason loss for comparison (there are plenty from which to choose)
The concern is that this was supposed to be the game that shows us what the Colts really have this year. Let's hope they're sharper on September 7, or it'll be ugly.
They are usually up to a higher standard. I was falling asleep as I proofread this one. Next one will be better. Thanks for reading.
@bradicus18 I don't remember him ever looking good playing deep - or even being back there very often.
I looked at his coverage breakdown though, and it's more in line with what we'd expect of him: only thrown at 33 times all season. Only gave up 2 TDs, but never batted down a pass (I thought he did one to a running back along the sideline, but PFF disagrees). He allowed 25 completions for 237 yards, 9.5 ypc. Apparently, that's slightly above average, so as long as he isn't any worse.
He's not going to make a leap at his age, but he'll need to clean some things up if Pagano wants him playing deep.

@bradicus18 I agree about the interchangeable thing. Not a fan. Surprisingly, last season, Landry was better in coverage than he was against the run, going against everything he seems to pride himself on. Before the playoffs, he had a 3.4 in coverage (-.3 against KC and -2.1 against NE, only his second game in the red in coverage all season dropped him down to 1.1). He finished with a -2.9 in run defense.
None of that is what I would expect, although he missed a bunch of tackles (16 apparently), so I guess I can see the low run defense score.
I don't know what the Jets used him as, but he batted down more passes with them (not looking, but I think 8 sounds right) than any other season. I'm still not sold on him as the FS. The guy looks like a linebacker, which makes me perceive him as a bit slow for being a single high safety in this defense. But I don't know that he'll be a liability. I think he can be average in coverage. We'd like more than that as fans, but I'm hopeful.
@Kyle Rodriguez Thanks

@Heracleitus Same here.
@Bobman @MarcusDugan @ColtsHead_Ben Apparently, they stacked the box for most of the first half, according to Pagano. But still, you'd hope they air it out the next time the opponent picks the "engage eight" defense from an old Madden game.

@Bobman (sitting at my computer laughing aloud)
That is fantastic.
@ColtsHead_Ben I don't know if those heavy formation runs into a 9 man box (seriously, if there's more than 7, they're begging you to pass) are a reflection of coaching, quarterback adjustments, or just preseason. My hope is preseason.

@flugel Lance Louis is faster than he looks, man. He's a sideline to sideline...blocker.... I just got home and fixed it. Should say Hugh Thornton up there now too.
And yes, the Giants look awful.
I agree about Purifoy. He sure made a strong case for himself.
@buymymonkey Yeah, I hope Holmes is alright.
And man, Vick is still fast. I think the Jets could end up with a new QB controversy that we can all watch implode them from afar.

@mattshedd Yeah, the backup ILB's should be interesting. I'm wondering if Muamba or Jackson could snag a roster spot.
McAfee kicking FGs would be cool too. I don't know about you, but I do get the impression they don't ever want to have one guy do both jobs.

@mshah9008 good call on the rush LB's and KR/PR guys. I really hope Moncrief & especially Hilton aren't going to be put in harm's way as returners on a regular basis.
There are a lot of Colts fans in Indiana who are either Ball State fans or at least casually follow local college football, which could be driving Newsome's hype a little bit. But generally, people don't get that kind of positive attention for nothing - for example, FN Lutz isn't getting hyped by much of anyone, and he's a straight up Hoosier (just not the IU kind).
I'm waiting to see what Newsome looks like in a full speed game. Those public practices up in Anderson don't tell us as even some of the best informed fans as much as we'd like them to.
I can't wait to see some actual game action (and I'll probably watch the whole fourth quarter too)
@bradicus18 It has to suck. Both of those guys have to wonder where there careers go from here. Two straight seasons on IR rarely leads to anything good. It would be an awful feeling.
Oh, and I'd love to find just one of these professional football players who views football with disdain. "I don't like this game at all, but I'm not good at anything else. Seriously, I can't even work a cash register."

@MrDuff1 You nailed it, there. I sure hope these kids can keep Luck upright.
@buymymonkey I'm glad it turned out alright. I like summer and all, but I'll be glad when we have some real games to watch and write/talk about.

Not at all. I think it may be a small difference in the actual number of incidents, but the difference in their attitude toward guys with character issues makes it stand out to is more - and could pose a greater risk of more guys getting into trouble, IMO.

Sounds very possible to me, especially if they keep using a more aggressive passing scheme like they did over the last few games.
@ABlueColt the man has some wheels. Looks like a big hitter too, which we know Pagano seems to like.

@Quazi I like Sergio too. You certainly can't teach a guy to have his size and speed combination (plus, he's really nice to fans on twitter). Hopefully, he's gotten the teachable stuff down and is ready to be a legit contender for that starting job.
@smonroe I like the sound of that.
I think Pep said he wanted to do anything within their power to score one more point than the other team. It wasn't in yesterday's transcript (from late May), but I suppose it would have helped to include that one.

@Payton It's not a great video, but here's a great one against Baltimore, too

@bradicus18 He looks like he might be a full time fullback. They changed his number to 30, if I'm not mistaken. Either way, I bet nobody would know how to beat a linebacker's block-shedding moves quite like a linebacker. Should be interesting.

@BrianKlass Methinks Captain Mullet will be competing to be Holmes's backup.

@smonroe He wasn't super fast before his injury, which could make it tough for him, especially with his already having complications. He seems like a good, smart guy, and I hope he can come back and play for a while.

@codrutc I think it's like learning a different computer programming language. You're doing the same thing, but everything has a different command, and a different name.
Had to do Griffer bc that was the guy the reporters were asking everyone about. I like him, but that 5th spot probably goes to someone they feel has lots of potential.

@smonroe @BrianKlass Marchibroda did the same thing with rookie Marcus Pollard.

@Kyle Rodriguez @mattsheddFrom what I understand, it's a lot like a freshman orientation at a university. There is also plenty of talk about dealing with their sudden, unprecedented wealth
@smonroe I think they usually keep 9. I agree about Nixon. We didn't see a ton of him, but he looks like a keeper.
3 months, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://coltsauthority.com/uncategorized/colts-take-guardtacklecenter-john-ulrick-in-the-seventh-round.html
I agree. I think with him being so tall and naturally fast, it just looks easy for him to go racing down the field. He has some things to work on, but looking at his numbers and draft projections, I didn't pay much pre-draft attention to him because I didn't honk he'd be available.
3 months, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://coltsauthority.com/uncategorized/colts-snag-wr-donte-moncrief-with-the-90th-overall-pick.html
Oops. Maybe needed to listen to what songs were on those videos before posting them.
That was a big issue with TY in college too, along with routes, which is apparently something Moncrief needs to work on. I think in the third, you're getting someone with some issues. It's good that his are teachable things and not physical limitations.
He looks much better at the line of scrimmage / point of attack than at the second level. Hopefully, he can work on getting out there and taking on linebackers. Could be a good guy to have if Thomas doesn't come back at 100%.

I hope they would have traded down if a QB was the BPA.
They need a QB though. I didn't think they were set on Keenum, but if they are, I sure don't mind them passing up Bridgewater, Bortles, et al & not having a good QB this season.
4 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://coltsauthority.com/
The thought of Pep's base offense once again featuring two tight ends and a fullback makes me throw up in my mouth a little. If they go that route, cue a whole season of "why did they bother to sign another receiver if they're opposed to using them?" tweets.
@ECB @Bobman1I also wonder if Brown might have wanted out of here once he was marketable enough, since no matter what he did in Indy, both coaching staffs he played for were stubbornly determined to keep his butt glued to the bench. Caldwell once benched him after he rolled up 12 yards per carry in a game (albeit against Jacksonville, but when was the last time any other Colts back had a game like that?).
4 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://coltsauthority.com/uncategorized/colts-go-back-to-work-four-things-to-keep-an-eye-on-in-2014.html
@Kyle Rodriguez @hanksterSoon, everyone will have their own personal fullback.
@DougEngland *laughing* Brilliant. Just brilliant.
Plus, this is a new, um, keyboard. After a full offseason in this system - and perhaps the addition of a few more fullbacks - we'll be back in business.
That was Gordy. He had his right (iirc) hand in position to knock the ball away, but switched over to shoving Bowe out of bounds, which is good, bc I believe he ended up catching it.
Brown on defense - I always remember the Cecil Shorts play from 2012. Of course, Sergio was playing as like a dime corner that day. He's had plenty of plays at safety that were just fine, of course. It ought to be a fun position battle to watch.
@DougEngland Too bad about that first rounder. I sure hope Richardson starts looking like an NFL running back this year.
I would've responded quicker, but I can only type 2.9 words per minute today (see what I did there?)
@smonroe I forgot about this question. I'll see if I can find something. If it hasn't been charted by PFF or FO, I'm not sure we have it. I don't think we charted anything like that last year ourselves.
@PatrickAlves1I only doubt it because I can't find any verifiable info. That could just be a product of his having gone to a small school, where there is little if any national recognition. I can't wait to see him play though, especially if he's that fast. Did you go to school with him by chance?
He was a Colt for 38 days.
@ECB I like they way you said that. Brown was very good when he was healthy, and not glued to the bench. We need more from Richardson.
