@MarcusDugan If I was a GM my chances of getting fired would be pretty high because I would chose all smarter, well spoken, hard working guys such as Whalen over those with high athletic ability.

Marcus, thanks for expanding a little on those annoying cliches that the players use such as "it's all about terminology" . I mean, what does that mean exactly? How difficult is for a WR or a RB to learn his part?
I liked Arians' 3rd down strategy a lot more.

@paulcareyjr @ScooterinSpo I am still optimistic about Thornton and Holmes from last year. As I understand it takes a few years for O linemen to develop as for their position it's a lot about technique and experience that takes some time to acquire.

At the press conference Pagano and Grigson said that the safeties they had a chance of drafting were not thought of being better than the ones they already have. Pagano also said he counts on improved front 7 that would give the DBs a better chance to make plays.
I think we just have to wait and see them playing.
I liked McDonalds, the safety in the highlightes.
I am optimistic about this guy as he already seems more fluid when he runs than Rogers.

What a motor! I like how he keeps moving until the play is over. I am optimistic about him.

Clowney is not that good so I am not sure it represents a good measure, Watt rather.

He looks good. I still want to see him catching a fade or by the sideline. He needs to drop that goatie though. I don't want to see a neck beard to goatie combination. :)

He is pretty good
Not an easy schedule based on the teams Colts face. Many of the opponents are likely to improve compared to last year: Ravens, Steelers, Jaguars, Texans.

@Kyle Rodriguez @paulcareyjr @7IHd I was so excited about that Boyett college video highlights, I still hope he stops drinking and Colts give him another chance. Is he signed to a future contract by the Broncos?

Very interesting manuevers, there is some art in everything.
4 months, 2 weeks ago on Breaking Down the Colts' Free Agent Contract Structures
The nomenclature for these football positions is no different than in my field. All kinds of names to make it sound like the job is more important than it really is.

I hope the injured guys were taken out more out of precaution. Our Colts are looking good at the right time.

I think you must be a little rusty, Greg.
7 months, 2 weeks ago on Monday Morning Moaner: Colts vs Texans
I agree, not a good idea with dropping the NT in coverage. I guess they tried to get a surprise pick similar to that by BJ Raji against the Bears the year the Packers won the Super Bowl.
And yes, I like the idea of emphasizing execution over trying to fool the opponent, on both sides of the ball.
7 months, 3 weeks ago on Too Little, Too Late: Colts Fall to Bengals 42-28
If these two receivers can continue playing like they did today (although Rogers dropped a critical 3rd down early) this game may be the turning point late in the season. I am concerned about the defense but that may change with adjustments, better offensive play and by getting healthy at CB spot. The coaching stuff continue to be clueless (not that I am not :) ) at the beginning of the games, early drops don't help either. Today they started with passes but then on second series there were two futile Richardson runs. To me this shows that they keep trying all kinds of approaches but still don't know what works.
4. I agree, Donald Brown has been under appreciated and for me often upsetting.5.I don't understand the hype for Rogers either but I guess it's similar to the "backup QB syndrome". 6.I was very surprised by how many Colts fans were in San Diego too, the entire lower half of the stadium was filled with blue shirts.8. I hope they use Reitz at left guard and move Thornton to the right. I thought Reitz and Castonzo were a pretty successful duo for running to the left side when they played together.Go Colts! They play well as underdogs and I hope they win another one.
7 months, 3 weeks ago on Eyes in the Backfield: Bengals
I like to believe Colts will overachieve in this game and cause one of the surprises of the week. They did that in all the games they were considered major underdogs this season.
7 months, 3 weeks ago on Colts Notebook: Bengals Preview
Tremendous work, much appreciate. Speaking of stunts, I have a silly question, "Is there such thing as zone pass blocking?". That would theoretically work better against stunts as an offensive lineman would not have to worry about a D lineman switching the point of attack but just defend his area around him.
8 months ago on CA Charting Project: Charting the Colts' Offensive Line, Week 12
1. I appreciate the humor in the article.
2. I just love the way Donald Brown has been playing and I am glad he finally gets the appreciation he deserves from other Colts fans. I know people here at CA have been supportive in the past
3. That play by Walden looks like from a manual.
8 months, 1 week ago on GIFtastic: Colts keep coming back, beat Tennessee
I guess you can say that Landry could have taken a better angle on that play but CJ is very fast and Landry had to cover a lot of field to get there. I would blame the other guys that got blocked by the Titans O.
@Bobman1 @dmstorm22 Pats may lose against Denver and Ravens but I can see the Colts possibly losing all 3 road games.
8 months, 1 week ago on Eyes in the Backfield: Cardinals
@DougEngland He probably would have brought up Marvin's playoff record like SI's Peter King has been doing.
I also have a feeling the Cardinals will win but in the ESPN Pick'em I picked the Colts because I believe there is a "curse" stemming from picking against your favorite team :)
@MarcusDugan @unitas19 The way they've been playing lately I can't see the Colts winning any of the remaining away games, but I do think they should win all 3 home games. Anything better than 10-6 is a bonus.
8 months, 1 week ago on NFL Issues Erik Walden a One-Game Suspension, Walden Plans to Appeal
He deserves the punishment even though it may have been his first offense. He could have hurt Walker really bad because the guy didn't have his helmet on.
@Bobman1 I get the sense that Patriots are slowly getting better and better and their defense, in spite of losing Wilfork and Mayo, are becoming a well glued group, more like defenses of the past. At least that is my impression, that by playoffs time they will become a force to be reckoned with.

LOL "After all, WHO DOES THAT?"
8 months, 2 weeks ago on Examining the Colts Mid-Season Struggles
@MarcusDugan I still like Whalen. Unfortunately people are less willing to give some time to an undrafted WRs like Whalen to improve than to those players that were high draft picks.
8 months, 2 weeks ago on Colts Elevate WR Da’Rick Rogers to Active Roster, Waive S Larry Asante
I am skeptical about this guy but I have to admit that he looks like an NFL level wide receiver in those videos. For the good of the Colts I hope in a miracle.
@Bobman1 @smonroe That's an interesting speculation but I am not sure it works like that.
8 months, 2 weeks ago on Colts Notebook: Rogers Earns His Chance
What the heck was Rogers chewing in between questions in that interview on colts.com? I couldn't stand watching.
The answer about Alterraun Verner reminds of Nick Harper's story. Colts had been trying to replace him for a number of years but he kept sticking as a starter.

9 months ago on They Aren't Who We Thought They Were: Why the NFL is So Difficult to Analyze
Very nice as always. I like the "Case Keenum" FBI sound too.
Personally I am excited to see how the Colts look without Wayne just because of the novelty factor. Of course if they can't pass the ball in critical situations, especially on the 3rd down I will get rapidly deflated and may come to regret the feeling I have now.

I expect a big game from TY just like last year in the 2 games against Houston.

I miss Arians as a Colts coach. He was always jovial with a special sense of humor. I find myself listening to his press conferences once in a while hoping for a gem or two.

@MarcusDugan @matt_has @McAfee_No_1 Ha, ha, that's funny. I remember that commercial with a football player tackling people in an office.
@MarcusDugan I hope they figure out what works and what it doesn't, including changing the formation you just mentioned.
By the way, colts.com depth chart has been updated and it shows TY first (Brazill, Whalen backups) and DHB on the other side (Reed as backup)
I really don't care why they win, only that they win. And yes, I care enough to take a minute and post here. Enjoy the game! Go Colts!
9 months ago on The BP Watch: The Colts Are Not 5-2 "Because They Are Run-First"
I am not sure coach Pagano is far from being honest when he said he didn't know who is number 1, 2,3 wide receiver. My sense is that they will play all of them in the offensive scheme. Life without Reggie Wayne is an unknown for the Colts coaching staff as much as it is for the fans. I personally can't wait to see how the offense is going to look without Reggie just out of pure curiosity. I expect them to struggle a little bit for a few games until they optimize the current offensive configuration just for the fact that Luck was used to count on Reggie so much.
Why? You may need to ask Pep Hamilton.
9 months, 1 week ago on GIFtastic: The Jim Irsay Revenge Game
In that first gif it is clear that the receivers were expecting another run into end zone by Luck. Wayne was positioning himself to block for Luck, he wasn't just standing around. For whatever reason Luck hesitated and kept trying to find a receiver to pass.
So how did item #18 come to fruition?
