Now that's a way to make me less optimistic.
1 month, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://coltsauthority.com/2014-articles/the-colts-officially-reach-a-deal-with-duron-carter.html
It looks like his ball catching ability is above the average. That's a big deal and makes me optimistic.
I had a strong feeling that Colts were going to beat Denver but now I don't know. I think the Colts will play even better against Patriots but I am not sure it's going to be enough.
I want to say something about Luck versus Manning from my perception as a fan of the Colts. Luck frustrates me during the game a lot more than Manning used to (a lot less the last 2 games I admit). Manning always gave me the feeling he was under control and if everything bad was about to happen it wasn't because of him. However, with Luck, because of his athletic edge, you feel like in Braveheart where the leader can really win a sword or body fight, not just give the strategy, and that raises the morale of the troops. Perhaps that's what's needed to beat the Patriots in their home.
I hope the coaches come up with a reasonably good game plan and give Luck a chance to do the rest. It's been always that curmudgeon of a genius, Belichik that put the Colts fans through misery.

That pass and catch by Dallas was indeed memorable but there were other things like Vinatieri incredible series of field goals, Bethea's INT, the impressive last drive when Ravens could not stop run after run, etc. I also remember what Platinum mentioned, the 2 almost interceptions by Lewis. I would say it was a struggle by both teams but I love good defense so for me it was enjoyable especially with the outcome being a Colts win.
Exactly right, like the rule with holding past 5 yards after Colts Pats game.

I liked how the Colts adjusted their defensive plan from last week. I am curious how they are going to approach Patriots' offense this time. I think Belichick is going to try to run again, see if it works and then switch to plan B.
In retrospective, of the new regime years so far, the best memories and satisfactions I have from the 2012 team, low expectations, high reward.

Whether you believe in momentum or any other cheap terminology it's hard to be optimistic about Colts and playoffs judging by what we've seen from them in 2014 season.
Colts wins are depressing to me because they give me no hope for the playoffs.

Reggie should probably not be on the field right now. I lost count of the drops today.

I know Nixon and Thornton are injured but I am not sure about Louis. In addition they have McDonalds who they signed last week.
I don't know why they don't play Holmes, maybe he is too smart for some people in Colts FO.
The coaches should know by now who their best players currently are. Colts starting offense should include Fleener and Allen as TE, Hilton, Moncrief as WR and Herron as RB, the rest should be in supporting role. It's frustrating to watch waisting plays with trying to feed the ball to other players who for one reason or another can't make plays.
On offensive line, I am curious what Ben Gundy is going to conclude but to me the combination of Shipley and Holmes next to him was almost flawless in the 2nd half, on the right side giving what happened before that. As soon as Holmes replaced Reitz (which I also like) it felt like another QB entered the field. I am dying to know why he was turning his head towards Luck and then to Shipley before every snap and what he was saying.
The reason they want the active roster reduced is to level de playing field when it comes to non-injured players available. A team that has fewer injured players would be able to substitute more.

6 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://coltsauthority.com/2014-articles/roster-moves-colts-sign-dt-kelcy-quarles-release-rb-dion-lewis-shuffle-practice-squad.html
It looks like there is a general agreement this year between Colts management and the fans on who should be on the roster and practice squad, no major controversies.
As far as I am concerned I would have kept Burley instead of trading him based on concerns with injuries for Toler and Davis and possible off the field issues with Purifoy. I remember how during the Denver game last year the DBs started dropping like flies. You don't want that happening again without having depth at the position.

@MarcusDugan If I was a GM my chances of getting fired would be pretty high because I would chose all smarter, well spoken, hard working guys such as Whalen over those with high athletic ability.

Marcus, thanks for expanding a little on those annoying cliches that the players use such as "it's all about terminology" . I mean, what does that mean exactly? How difficult is for a WR or a RB to learn his part?
I liked Arians' 3rd down strategy a lot more.

@paulcareyjr @ScooterinSpo I am still optimistic about Thornton and Holmes from last year. As I understand it takes a few years for O linemen to develop as for their position it's a lot about technique and experience that takes some time to acquire.
10 months, 2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://coltsauthority.com/2014-articles/colts-authority-undrafted-free-agent-tracker.html
At the press conference Pagano and Grigson said that the safeties they had a chance of drafting were not thought of being better than the ones they already have. Pagano also said he counts on improved front 7 that would give the DBs a better chance to make plays.
I think we just have to wait and see them playing.
I liked McDonalds, the safety in the highlightes.
I am optimistic about this guy as he already seems more fluid when he runs than Rogers.

Clowney is not that good so I am not sure it represents a good measure, Watt rather.

He looks good. I still want to see him catching a fade or by the sideline. He needs to drop that goatie though. I don't want to see a neck beard to goatie combination. :)

He is pretty good
Not an easy schedule based on the teams Colts face. Many of the opponents are likely to improve compared to last year: Ravens, Steelers, Jaguars, Texans.

@Kyle Rodriguez @paulcareyjr @7IHd I was so excited about that Boyett college video highlights, I still hope he stops drinking and Colts give him another chance. Is he signed to a future contract by the Broncos?

The nomenclature for these football positions is no different than in my field. All kinds of names to make it sound like the job is more important than it really is.

I agree, not a good idea with dropping the NT in coverage. I guess they tried to get a surprise pick similar to that by BJ Raji against the Bears the year the Packers won the Super Bowl.
And yes, I like the idea of emphasizing execution over trying to fool the opponent, on both sides of the ball.
1 year, 3 months ago on Too Little, Too Late: Colts Fall to Bengals 42-28
If these two receivers can continue playing like they did today (although Rogers dropped a critical 3rd down early) this game may be the turning point late in the season. I am concerned about the defense but that may change with adjustments, better offensive play and by getting healthy at CB spot. The coaching stuff continue to be clueless (not that I am not :) ) at the beginning of the games, early drops don't help either. Today they started with passes but then on second series there were two futile Richardson runs. To me this shows that they keep trying all kinds of approaches but still don't know what works.
4. I agree, Donald Brown has been under appreciated and for me often upsetting.5.I don't understand the hype for Rogers either but I guess it's similar to the "backup QB syndrome". 6.I was very surprised by how many Colts fans were in San Diego too, the entire lower half of the stadium was filled with blue shirts.8. I hope they use Reitz at left guard and move Thornton to the right. I thought Reitz and Castonzo were a pretty successful duo for running to the left side when they played together.Go Colts! They play well as underdogs and I hope they win another one.
1 year, 3 months ago on Eyes in the Backfield: Bengals
I like to believe Colts will overachieve in this game and cause one of the surprises of the week. They did that in all the games they were considered major underdogs this season.
1 year, 3 months ago on Colts Notebook: Bengals Preview
Tremendous work, much appreciate. Speaking of stunts, I have a silly question, "Is there such thing as zone pass blocking?". That would theoretically work better against stunts as an offensive lineman would not have to worry about a D lineman switching the point of attack but just defend his area around him.

1. I appreciate the humor in the article.
2. I just love the way Donald Brown has been playing and I am glad he finally gets the appreciation he deserves from other Colts fans. I know people here at CA have been supportive in the past
3. That play by Walden looks like from a manual.
1 year, 4 months ago on GIFtastic: Colts keep coming back, beat Tennessee
I guess you can say that Landry could have taken a better angle on that play but CJ is very fast and Landry had to cover a lot of field to get there. I would blame the other guys that got blocked by the Titans O.
@Bobman1 @dmstorm22 Pats may lose against Denver and Ravens but I can see the Colts possibly losing all 3 road games.
1 year, 4 months ago on Eyes in the Backfield: Cardinals
@DougEngland He probably would have brought up Marvin's playoff record like SI's Peter King has been doing.
I also have a feeling the Cardinals will win but in the ESPN Pick'em I picked the Colts because I believe there is a "curse" stemming from picking against your favorite team :)
@MarcusDugan @unitas19 The way they've been playing lately I can't see the Colts winning any of the remaining away games, but I do think they should win all 3 home games. Anything better than 10-6 is a bonus.
1 year, 4 months ago on NFL Issues Erik Walden a One-Game Suspension, Walden Plans to Appeal
He deserves the punishment even though it may have been his first offense. He could have hurt Walker really bad because the guy didn't have his helmet on.
@Bobman1 I get the sense that Patriots are slowly getting better and better and their defense, in spite of losing Wilfork and Mayo, are becoming a well glued group, more like defenses of the past. At least that is my impression, that by playoffs time they will become a force to be reckoned with.
