tip 10 - never delete other people their comments if you don't agree with them
I think some of the points made in this single post are flawed. I will try to explain myself:- design. You speak of 'flawed' design. Yet, there is no indication where you back up your "thought" process. What is a flawed design? If I look at the average webpage then I think the average wordpress theme like blog page is a flawed design since I can smell them from a mile away. Here is what I think it should have said:- Keep your design clean, don't use to many stylish pictures to make your blog look good since they will distract people. Keep text in contrast of the design. Eg, black on white (or dark grey on white) works best.- Content is everything... Ehm... Isn't that a SEO trick? Not a user experience thing? If it would have said: Keep your sentences short and to the point that would be something different. In this case it just says "write content"... but that is not the point regarding to bounce rates. What you want to do here is let people click on something or let them stay longer then x-seconds. An average google user can not read content, thus they will just leave. It should have said: Add videos or other media to keep the crowd occupied... I have done it.. Have you? Guess not..- Navigation is the key.. NOPE... It usually depends totally on the type of landing page. If it is the frontpage, THEN navigation is the key... if it just a 'random' follow up page... then ehm... Navigation isn't... Using links inside your content (ow... there is that word again) usually means that people are reading and are given a choice to dive deeper into the subjects at hand. Just navigation doesn't work here since I am not going to "look for stuff" if it doesn't connect to the search I just did (and this is mostly the case with basic navs like "home", "my products", "bla", "whatever"... They are usually being skipped. Or did you never done any eye tracking research for that matter? I would dig in to this subject if I would be you... And one thing you will mostly notice in eye tracking research is that people don't really look at the navigation at the top, nor on the right...
- Ads are bad... and this comes from a page that has 3 different spots for ad placements... good for you!
- External links are evil?! Where did this come from? Ever heard of target="_blank"?- point 8 is the only point I can agree on. But in a way, it isn't rocket science to write good headlines. It is done with newspapers too. And just saying "kitchen", while writing about a bookstore... is probably something NO-one would do...
I think you should do another rewrite... (point 4), since point 4 has a typo... it says "god" instead of "good"...
This leads me to point 9: Always spell check your stuff before posting it. Have someone else read it to you...
