I agree with most of it. But Miller needs to stay. He's way too valuable on the PK and until Helm can touch his toes with his nose, Miller is the man for that role.

And Hossa? He's a huge cap hit. Richards' light has faded and he'll end up 2nd lining for someone that needs to meet the cap floor.

The better asset finding his way to UFA this summer is Mark Streit. He doesn't want to play for the Islanders anymore. Leadership and the ability to score from the point. Could fill a role on the PP that we need. But, he may be too expensive and he is 35...

Yep, it's time for Smith to do a bit of soul-searching. Carlo Colavowels played quite well last night, with great outlet passes. Let's see Dan D (call me Danny, Daniel...) make his debut and get the butterflies out of his stomach.

Jimmy's probably out with a sore back from carrying these freeloaders, not the flu.

Is there a reason that no one seems to be able to corral a pass without it bouncing off their stick to create a turnover? Babs better get a few dozen eggs for today's practice and go back to the peewee hockey method of teaching players how to take a pass.

Monster, I really want to see you tap gloves with Mrazek as he passes you on your way to the AHL. Mrazek can play enough backup games to get us through to the end of the season without becoming a roster player, can't he? At least I have some confidence that he has what it takes to steal a couple for us, and that's the difference between golfing and playing in June this season.

 @Reddy

I'd rather see Mrazek than the Monster in net. Today's game sucked on all fronts. Badly.

I just did a Tatarian fist pump with the news about 43. Tatarian...is that a new word?

I say give Tatar a shot at the top line for one game. With 1 goal per game the last 3, can our offence be any worse with a shuffle? I don't think so. Aside from Hejda, Colorado's D aren't that big, so let Tats skate with Dats tonight.

I like this kid. And we got him for a smokin' deal. Hell, the Vancouver Nocups pay over $4 million a year for lesser D-men! Now to sign Brunner and Jimmy for longer term contracts. I think Fil will stick around too.

Easily the best player in the NHL.

As for the game, I'm sure the neighbours heard me yell "F###!!!!!!" in overtime. The other teams have figured out Kindl - just power past him and there's nothing he can do to stop you. He's looking way too soft to be defending against NHL caliber players.

I'm going with Scott Cullen's assessment here. The only gripe I have with MB right now has to do with playing #11. Sit Cleary and the beer's on me, Babs.

Cullen's first quarter winners:

JACK ADAMS AWARD Winner: Mike Babcock, Detroit Runners-up: Barry Trotz, Nashville; Peter DeBoer, New Jersey Comment: Always an award that could have half a dozen or more deserving nominees, Babcock gets the early nod for steering the Red Wings through the post-Lidstrom era with a shaky -- and injured -- defence corps, yet the Wings persevere. Trotz gets mentioned annually and Pekka Rinne's strong play might be more reason for Nashville's success, but they're succeeding with minimal production from Shea Weber (or any forwards) after Ryan Suter left as a free agent. Perhaps there should be some Ewing Theory applied to the big ticket free agents signed by Minnesota, since the Devils haven't missed a beat without Zach Parise, but DeBoer deserves credit for keeping the Devils on track. Battling early injuries and dancing around goaltender usage, Vancouver's Alain Vigneault should be among those nominated too, so it pains me to have him among honourable mentions. Toronto's Randy Carlyle and Montreal's Michel Therrien could be in the discussion too, as both Toronto and Montreal are exceeding preseason expectations.

Cleary, I'll even tie your tie for you so you can spend a few games in the pressbox. Yeah, you're a fellow Canadian, but Gus needs to fill your spot on the ice. I'm so done with you.

Cleary is killing me. He's taking so many penalties as opponents rush past him that he has become a huge liability. He needs to ride the pine for a while or have a permanent change of scenery, and let's put Nyquist in his spot. I thought we'd have 4 easy points with Calgary and CBJ - we got zero. Time for a shake up, and start it with number 11.

Gotta agree with you on Tootoo. The Grind Line is looking good. Remember all those Cups we won with the Grind Line? And with Pasha turning opposing players into practice pylons, we're once again reminded how good the best player in the NHL really is!

Knuble just signed with Philly. With the injury to Scott Bad Haircut Hartnell, they had to make a move for a forward. Who else is out there?

Well, so far, Howie has been our best defenceman. I knew we'd lost a lot with Nik and Stuey leaving, but I didn't think I'd be anxiously waiting for Kindl to get healthy! Huskins looked okay, and that Lashoff kid is going to be very good with some more experience. Hopefully, they find their stride soon!
