@fs2020  like 6'5 hockey players who tower of girardi are going to go man i better not hit mcdonagh again or girardi will come get me. wtf?? if you think its about keeping everyone safe and winning beer league brawls then have a 4th line of goons. no one does, at most teams have 1 and really not many at all anymore. your going to say oh lucic fights for this and this guy does that, who gives a shit. girardi does what he does and thats play some of the best defense in the league.

@fs2020  hes not a fighter and it was a hit. what do do you want? if the guy sucker punched mcdonagh ok, it was a hit in live action and not really a cheap shot. you can't fight every guy who hits your best player. the fight is reactionary, because really does any fight permanently stop anything, no. so say girardi drops the gloves and lands a few great shots maybe even draws some blood, then what? no one would ever hit mcdonagh again? we had a team with rupp, bickel, prust and dubinsky and boyle still got his ass kicked, anisimov still got blind sided daily, dubinsky still got beat up by carter. ok we fought the line brawls with jersey it made a statement... then we lost to them where it counts, on scoreboard so how much did those fights mean? its so overblown the standing up for guys. mcdonagh is a tough sob , he got hit , it was dirty. big deal relax they are grown ass men. have you ever played hockey? i had teammates get real pissed at me if i tried to fight there fight. i got pissed when someone tried to fight mine, i felt if i guy suckered me when I'm good and healthy and willing ill get him back. thats that, we don't need to run around ohhh you hit mc d ohh you sneezed on lundqvist. its hockey, there will be blood.

cool graphs but id like to see rick nash's year by year. i think thats the issue, not his in year stats but his career trend which has gone down since he peaked back in 2010. then if you weigh the opponent strength during his hot streaks i can almost guarantee he pads against weaker teams and fails against the tighter checking more intense games. i mean last night explains it all, I'm not complaining just stating the obvious. it was the best he's looked all season, it was also the worst team in the nhl for goals against and a game that lacked importance.

@Bring back Langdon @SmellyKisio  so carcillo attracted more defenseman then kreider? give me a break, he had a good game against one of the worst teams in the nhl and the worst, dead last, in goals against. I'm happy for nashy poo we need him get going more then anything. but it has ZERO to do with dan carcillo being on his line. get real with the nash excuses

Nhl scheduling is a fresking joke . How is it fair that with only 6-9 games left some teams still have 3 games in hand . For Philadelphia to have 3 games in hand this late in the season is a joke. By the time there are 10 games left everyone should be within 1 game of eachother .

@KevinTheNYRBlog @DubiLeetchahan  it bothered me too i agree, but more that it had to do with such ridiculous prescriptions and stuff like that. not so much the playing injured.. head injuries and a broken hand two different things. i do agree with the call I'm just saying i don't feel they should be blamed. for all we know they told him not to play and sather and kreider decided to give it a go. he obviously has power to veto the medical staff opinion so who knows what went down.

3 weeks, 5 days ago on

it was easy decision for sather, he was clearly struggling to play with it. if kreider buries 3 goals in those 2 games you think its a tougher decision? hell yeah. its playoff time, i know he's young but its happened plenty of times. leetch got his shoulder numbed before every playoff game in 94' , gaborik scored a hatrick and triple overtime winner then required shoulder surgery. should they have pulled the plug on those 2? why do we make it so complicated . kreider "i broke my hand, but i want to try and play"   staff "ok give it a try" 2 games later after he struggled to play with it " no you have to get surgery its not going to work out"  sounds so normal to me. whats the big deal?

3 weeks, 5 days ago on

Reply

cmon enough with the medical staff stuff.. its hockey . every medical staff would be horrible if your using this as an example. guys play injured and broken constantly in the nhl its not the medical staff its the culture. the players request it, the organizations usually don't mind it. callahan and hagelin played with separated shoulders the whole season last year. its what it is. concussions, broken bones, guys play with 1 freakin eye nowadays. relax with dissing the medical staff. its not an issue if playing hockey with a broken hand is smart, i think everyone including the medical staff know the answer to that. they weighed the consequences and made a decision, then quickly changed there mind, whats the big deal? he's a freakin hockey player not a spaceship.

@Bring back Langdon @DubiLeetchahan  its not the obvious.. if an alien looked at the teams roster and payroll they most certainly would think #19 and #61 would be the best players. it was a statement to prove how underrated defense and goaltending is. and how good are d and goalie are proving how good of a chance we have

@Hockey1982 @DubiLeetchahan  yeah i was pulling my hair out when he wouldn't play callahan on the pp. it just never worked with AV and him, he was hurt too much, missed camp , it was a very strange vibe this whole season. you really have to blame the organization, regardless of your opinion on keeping callahan, lundqvist, and girardi you have to admit it was a circus dealing with it all this season and a huge mistake to let it linger.

He's a great all around hockey player and a great fit on 99% of nhl teams. Part of this is the fact that callahan was slumping bad this season therefor people forget what he offers . 4 goals in 11 games is pretty much callahans career pace . It equates to a 28-30 goal season and if you know how to crunch #'s that's exactly what callahan is . He's been on pace now 4 yeRs in a row to be a 30 goal scorer barring injuries. First on pk not surprising either . That's him . We will miss it but we got a pretty dan good player back . Got a feeling we will meet tampa in playoffs so we will all see the true winner if the trade soon . Not sure how many teams have to put callahan in the top 6 before we admit he's a top 6 (he is and has been )

Good for him and good for us . Couldn't ask for better results since that trade so who cares , we are rolling . Deal with Tampa when we need to , now it's about Philly or Columbus it looks like

They have 3 pp goals since the trade idk what you talking about . And for a team that's 3rd in the conference going 6-7 over 13 games is a severe slump

4 weeks, 1 day ago on

Reply

@johnnyb3910  im guessing he tried to go for the 2 games, 2nd game he barely played so it was really only 1 game playing injured. Sounds like it was staff decision not his, as he probably requested to play no matter what and after AV saw how in affective he was he pulled the plug. even if the pain was minimal his performance suffered so it was coaching decision i think. you know how it is, that pain can disappear from adrenaline but it doesn't mean you have the strength and mobility you always had in that hand, pain or not

Worst case scenario we can give up all those 1st round picks we have stockpiled .. Wait.

I agree man Eric staal is head and shoulders above statsny. If he's available id trade like a callahan and a 1st and 2nd for him ... Wait haha . No but KD is right , if it costs you the younger Stepan and brassard how much of an upgrade is it really ? Considering he will make 2x those guys and is older. Skinner is out of the question they aren't dumb enough to trade him , cost us Kreider and then sum . He's only getting 5 something I think and is 21 years old. This is where it gets scary giving up those draft picks for Louis , this the exact offseason scenario you save them for . Think about it we are going to talk trading for superstars we can't even offer a 1st rounder !! And our most affordable player is Kreider . Everyone else hitting free agency next few years , why does Carolina want Stepan ? They would have to sign him long term don't make sense . I don't see a fit with that team .. E staal is attractive but it don't work . Especially after we blew our load on St. Louis

@Billfrom Brookhaven  your dead wrong its a common misconception. go back and look, the last 4 stanley cup winners were top 3 in goals against. right now best team in the west, st louis #2 in GA, best team in the east boston #3 in GA. look over the years, you are much more likely to go deep in the playoffs if you finish in top 10 GA as opposed to GF... there are many more examples of teams with high GF that don't even make the playoffs. so get that thru your head, yeah it helps to be top 5 in both, but more then likely your better off stacking the defensive end. numbers and results prove it year in and year out...

@Billfrom Brookhaven  I'm so sick of hearing about them... ohhh no boston and pittsburgh. i don't know if you have watched but the rangers played great against boston this year. completely dominated them that 1 game we let 1-0. there d is young and vulnerable, they don't score that much either so i think its a good matchup. as for pittsburgh they are a great matchup for us, we can both score, ok they have us on O , we have them on goalie and D no doub about it. boston worries me more then pitt

The rangers are 100% better then every team in the east except Pitt and Boston . Why can't we make a run ? We have the goalie and the defense . With a little but more from the PP and O there's no reason we can't beat any other team In the east

1 month ago on

Reply

The rangers are 5th in the league in goals against and will finish 4th or 3rd probably. Amazing how good the d and lundqvist combo is no matter the coach . THAT can win you playoff games. I see a world class goalie getting hot at the right time , I see our superstar Nash waking up, along with the defense and the inevitable St. Louis turn around your looking at a cup contender ladies and gentleman. While only a week ago we were distraught but for good reason .. Our best players were playing like shit . It's the opposite now , and with hank and the D there's no reason we can't make a run in this wide open east. LGR
