I think the answer is pretty simple:1) The acoustics of the new barn are completely different. The metal roof of the Igloo seemed to amplify noise. It made for terrible acoustics for rock shows, but increased the overall noise level at hockey games. I think the way the upper deck was cantilevered out over the ice also meant that the noise sounded louder for the players and on TV, as the fans were much closer than the current upper deck allows.2) Season pass holder dominated crowds. The vast majority of those attending the games are season pass holders. Whether they're middle aged, elderly, or 15 makes little difference, they see a lot of hockey games. If you see 40 games a season, you're not going to have the same energy that someone who sees 1-2 games per season is going to.

I've never liked teams trying to force PP offense by putting a fourth forward out at the point, it creates too many defensive liabilities.
Given that Malkin has had a bad habit of turning the puck over in the early season...well, you can see where I'm going.

@Bradley James McEachern @BillyBoy123 As much heat as Jagr (justifiably) takes in Pittsburgh his work in Dallas has already confirmed that he still has soft hands and a great head for the game. Hartnell should be sending him a Christmas card this year and every year of his bloated contract as he'll never put up similar numbers again without someone of Jagr's caliber working with him.

Not sure why Martin was so bad last year after all of his solid work in Jersey over the years but putting him with Orpik looks to have stabilized his game so far this season. If he can keep it tightened down and Sutter continues the good work I think this team'll be a lot better than I was expecting during the loooong off season.
@Alan_Waldron Great info, thanks Alan. Also: I love the pissed-looking Penguin from the last concept.

@TDS Eh...I don't know, the top right one has some pretty terrible stripe action...but that's my complaint with our second Winter Classic jersey though too.
I've been one of Staal's biggest boosters since he started paying for us, but if Sutter can keep putting up games like that I'm going to start thinking we got another steal from the Carolina / Hartford franchise on that trade.
