Well It was definitely a case of Who's on first tonite.  Thank goodness I actually recognized our first baseman as it was Mike Napoli. As for 1/2 the rest of the team who knew them.   However, it was a great job tonite even if Jeter got a homer.  We at least beat the Yanks and many of them were old Red Sox players so that was good too.   Don't know what the future holds in 2014 for our Red Sox but at least we will be kept busy by trying to figure out who the heck is playing for us.   Go Sox

We gave so many issues I can't type them all.  Bring back Nava, trade or DFA Carp, Try and keep Shane off the DL,  Figure out why most of our pitching staff is practicing to be the best home run derby pitchers ever,   See if we can trade Middlebrooks and Jackey Bradley for something that can bat above 200   or pitch less than 3 home runs in a game. And what is Steven Drew going to give us except a little better D at short.   He doesn't bat much over 200 either.  It is almost painful to watch the Sox play right now.    Sad  Sad  Sad.

Sorry, It's tax season and I'm an accountant so I don't get to read these thing that often until after April 15th.  However, The Oscars one is a masterpiece. ( I skipped the Hollywood one). I don't think Prince will live that moment down EVER, even if he is in Texas now.   And Jim Leland has only himself to blame for not changing pitchers and allowing Papi to belt that home run.  Torii Hunter will be seeing that Oscar highlight forever too.

I've been scared since two weeks ago.   The MFY's are moving up and we are playing basically 500 ball.  That's not going to be good enough as TB is right on our ass.  Maybe Lester can get back to being a good pitcher instead of a gump.  That would help.  Our middle relief as usual is still a black hole.  UGH.  Thank goodness for Ue.  At least he's closing things down when we can get to the 9th with a lead.  I'm not liking the fact that September is so close and we have no lead to speak ofl  A one game playoff would be HORRID!

Well at least we whupped them good today.  Nice Job Sox.   I also want to say that watching Dempster make A-Fraud jump around was awesome.  Just sorry he got fined for it when Strasburg never got anything except being tossed from the game when he went after a batter.  And then for Dempster to say he wasn't going to fight it because it would be bad for the team (are you listening to how it's supposed to be done A-Fraud?) and that he would serve his suspension because that's what the ruling was is totally first class.  Someone had to hit the little bastard and I'm just glad it was one of ours!!!!!!!! I was less than thrilled at the choice of John Farrell for many of the reasons Red mentions.  I wanted Hale or Pena, because I have been underwhelmed by Farrell while managing Toronto.  That said, the other side is the players might respect him, coaches may actually talk to him (what a concept) and the front office may give him the ability to actually do his job.   Maybe the name of this blog should now be Surviving Grady and Bobby V.   I'm hoping that at least we can be a 500 team next year and at least we hired a manager early enough so he can start making decisions.  GO SOX.

I agree- Jeter is as great an ambassador for the game of baseball as A Rod is a sucky one.  I have never disliked Derek Jeter, just the team he plays for.  He gives it everything he's got every game and you cannot disrespect that. Seriously, he probably should have been DH ing instead for trying to play on a bad foot. I hope he heals well and is out there again next year to play the game he loves.

Good for us that the Yanks are stuck with A Rod for another 5 years.  He's doing nothing but helping the other teams at this point.  Maybe the Sox can win a few more from the Yanks next year if A Rod continues to be this bad.

I sincerely hope the Yankees go down in 4.   Go Detroit!!!!!!!!

@VJ in Stuttgart @SandiJones But Would Youk want to come back to the Mad House? Agreed he is a much better 1st baseman than a 3rd baseman.  Once you get free you may never want to return.  Lester can stay if his ATTITUDE improves.  Bard just gets too nervous.  He's no better in the 8th inning than the 1st inning.  Make him an outfielder- we know he can throw, he just can't pitch.  Yeah, I agree no one wants Lackey but one can hope.

Yep, save whatever life we have for the Yankees. I'd love to see them not win the division after they were so cocksure of themselves a month or so ago.  And then sadly owners need to purge our coaching staff, purge the rest of the pitching staff that we don't want (I vote for Lester, Bard, Lackey, Eceves, and anyone else that can't pitch, or who can barely pitch but WINES about it when he doesn't like where he's pitching.   Then look for a decent manager and let him pick his staff.  I'm not sure John Farell is the correct choice.  Look at Toronto. Not a sterling performance I'd say.   Sign Big Poppy- but not at the outrageous amount he wants, sign Cody Ross, and start rebuilding a team that wants to play like a team not just workers heading to a job site for a days wages!   Fingers crossed for a decent 2013.  It has to be better than 2012 right?

I agree with you Denton alias 70's Jim, lacking the fro, perhaps Red should remember 2007 and how Baltimore bunted our butts into winning the division against the Yankees.  I think we should have our worst pitchers (the usual starters of course and Daniel Bard ready for when the O's show up this weekend.  And all the kids from triple A, double A and even A ball should be allowed to play.   Maybe Rocket Roger could come and pitch a bit, but then, he'd probably show up our starting rotating.  Anyway, I say spoil the Yankee juggernaut and put the O's into the division lead.    And yes Denton, the big fro in that picture would make it a museum piece!!!!!!

No one even comments on what a great outfielder JD is. He wasn't flashy, but he didn't have to be when he was in the right spot to catch the ball 95% of the time. And the home run he hit ( I just knew is was going to be his typical fly out) in 07 was KILLER. And don't forget in 2008, when everyone else sucked- he was our man for a big part of the season. Hell, he was almost going to have to pitch an inning in the All Star Game. I for one, will miss JD Drew . I will not miss the Nancy Drew that showed up in our outfield now and then. Overall, I do not think he was overpaid, and he should be respected for what he did for us- not reviled for what he didn't do. JD- I salute you.

I for one, was very happy when we signed Carl. No, he didn't have a great year but I am looking forward to 2012. As should all of us. And yes an owner should know better than to say anything like that in public. Maybe it wasn't because of Crawford so much as the contract itself. It was very large, but again that's why he's an owner and not a GM.

It does absolutely no good to rehash all this stuff. 2011 is over for us but it's only 4 months until pitchers and catchers report for the 2012 season. It will be a different time for the Sox- new GM, new Manager, different players (Hoping Papi and Paps sign on, but can't blame them if they don't). But it will still be baseball, and still our Red Sox playing it. Enough of this garbage about who's fault it is already. If we'd made it to the playoffs and lost in the first round, none of this stuff would have been remotely interesting to anyone- just like its really not remotely interesting to a lot of us now. Lets move on- and grow up a little in the process.

Let's stop looking backward and bashing players, managers, owners etc. If you keep doing this you aren't any better than the media who will print anything for a story. I don't hold anyone person responsible for the collapse. There is enough blame to share among everyone. As a fan, I just want them to shut up and get on with fixing our team. And that means Denton and Red and all the rest of us. Lets put out some positive ideas about players, managers, etc. No more Theo or Tito bashing or talks about chicken. What players do we think we need to acquire and who do we think we need to get rid of (someone is going to say Lackey for sure ) in the off season to bring us back to glory. Everyone put in some opinions about who our next manager should be and our next GM. THE BLOODLETTING NEEDS TO STOP HERE! The year ended badly and we are all still bleeding. Lets start healing instead.
