We all put him on such a high pedestal because of what he did for this organization and it is very much deserved. But the fact is he left the Rangers to go to Vancouver when he didn't get his way and he is doing the same thing now. I love Messier, but I hope this serves as a message to the Rangers that unless we are prepared to give The Captain the keys to the ferrari next time, he has no place being a part of this organization.

@Tom Jerhada I think letting DZ go before giving him a shot with Vigneault would be a big mistake. AV plays a much more open system and tolerates mistakes much better than Torts. The more laid back attitude may be what DZ needs instead of Torts' voice in the back of his head every time he touched the ice. Same goes for Kreider, they both have a lot of potential in this new system.

1 year, 5 months ago on Flyers Would Absolutely Be Interested in Richards; Briere to Rangers?

@queensbee I think it has to do with the coach's contract with the club. Torts signed a 3 year extension on his contract back in january, I'd imagine anyone interested in speaking with him about a job would have to get permission from Dolan/Sather

@fs2020 Little bit of a different story with the canucks though, they went from the Stanely cup finals, to getting swept by the 8 seed, to getting swept once again the following year by the 6 seed. A trip to the ECF and the ECSF in back to back years is not a fireable offense.

@gravey94 I want nothing to do with the pens. 1-3-1 vs them this year but since we aren't talking points for all intents and purposes we are 1-4 vs them this year. 2-1-0 vs the Bruins this year and 3-0-0 vs the the caps. 6th is obviously ideal but I would much rather play the B's first round. Original Six matchup and I would love to play the villain for that city. Also the way I look at it, if we play boston 1st round and lose at least it was against a respectable team with a lot of skill and depth. Losing to the caps 1st round would be losing to a lesser team in my eyes. Kind of a backwards way of looking at it but I would much rather play Boston.

@PenaltySh0t Of all the ridiculous things I've heard against Torts this season, this takes the cake. You really think he actually told them to keep shooting glove side? You say it so definitively like you were on the bench to hear him say it. You shoot at what you get, not what you want. Mason wasn't giving them the blocker side.

@Betweentheworlds Jut stop. Hank is a grown man and an athlete, he knows his limits and wouldn't let a coach force him to play hurt, no athlete would. Like a couple others have said he wouldn't make comments to the media without getting checked out. If you think the Rangers medical staff wasn't checking on him after Girardi's Elbow and Ribiero's shot than you're outside your mind. And as for the torts bashing, I'm sure you were praising him this time last year...

I wouldn't want to jump the gun on bringing either of these two back just yet. It may be message received on Kreider's end of it but the team is clicking right now and that isn't something to be messed with. Let him stay down there a little while longer where he is producing. Getting recalled after putting up a couple points would only make the roller coaster the Rangers have put him on worse.

@chrisD He returned to the game and played well after the hit, that shouldn't play a role in the decision but we all know what happens when it's a hit against the Rangers. He should get 5 games at the least since he is a repeat offender but I'm not holding my breathe on that.

Looks wise, Hags. Importance wise, Nash. Like everyone else has said Nash's goal is huge for Richie. A sick assist through two defensemen and going 17 for 20 on faceoffs is exactly what he needs to be doing every game. Hopefully this sticks for the whole team.

@Dminches  @rangersfan Coaching staff and players share blame equally. We don't have the fighters anymore so thats part of it. Asham and bickel dont get enough ice time to fight and neither did mashinter. The players are playing unmotivated hockey do the coached try shuffling things around to get something going but it doesnt work so they keep shuffling lines. It's a vicious cycle which is going to be the downfall of this team if it doesnt stop soon. Both sides need to take a step back and realize this.

@Dminches  @rangersfan Sticking up for each other sparks up the team. If someone had gone after paccioretty, or whoever threw hagelin to the ground twice in one shift on their last road trip (I forget which game it was), Or whoever ran into Biron in Montreal, that sparks up the bench, gets the team excited and that turns into offense. We saw that a lot last year with all the fighting. We scored plenty of goals in the shift or 2 after we got a fighting major. BUT, nothing seems to inspire this team this year. Cally's goal last night to cut the gap down to one drew nothing offensively, WPG actually scored less than a minute later. This team needs something to get excited about. The one thing we haven't seen much of is protecting one another. It worked last year why not do it this year.

@Dminches  @rangersfan I think with the exception of Kreider he has handled you talkent just fine. Stepan and Hagelin are doing just fine and DZ is hit or miss. The problem with the lack of offense is a complete lack of heart and team chemistry. Last season they played the first month of their schedule in Europe. Thats a month of spending every waking moment with the team in close quarters, they didn't have that this year and when you add a bunch of new faces you need something like that. Nobody sticks up for anyone on the ice this year either. Those two things are directly related to a lack of offense.

One slow start to a shortened season is no reason to jump ship on Torts.

@rangersfan I meant to add that NCAA and Juniors are very different but noticed it after I hit post. Yes they are very different talent levels but thats really all we have to go on with this kid.  @rangersfan Eh I wouldn't go that route. He was very strong with BC while he was there and also was very impressive in the world juniors when we won gold. That being said, I don't think the player we saw in the playoffs was him either. I've been saying since the playoffs that he had to have been playing off the adrenaline of being thrown right into the show. He needs to go down and gain his confidence.

@chrisD  @gravey94 The system in place now should be enough in preventing hits to the head. The problem with the current system is the inconsistency. Shanny and the player safety board don't make decisions based on the rule and hit but the player and team absolutely plays a factor into their decisions which negates the entire point in reviewing questionable hits.

Anyone who thinks Torts needs to go is a fool. We all remember where this team was at when he took over Renney's spot at the helm... He took a bottom of the barrell team and turned it around to a playoff contender every year and a cup contender last year and this year. One bad shortened season does not warrant a firing. If this lasts all season and we don't make the playoffs, and then it extends into the start of next season (which it will not) then yeah MAYBE a new coach should be considered but only if there are viable options out there. Torts is an incredible coach and motivator. This debacle we have been watching will end and we will make a deep run once again. Keep calm and believe in the system.

@Dudeinski  @DanW My point being that he needs to sit out and realize that he isn't untouchable. He has zero focus on the game and instead of focusing on hockey during the lockout he promoted his new clothing line which is an absolute joke. Moving to NY from Tampa and making 7 mil a year has completely gone to his head after having a big first year here. He thinks he is untouchable and that is counter productive to any athlete. Thats my point.

The guys who were there last year have the chemistry but the new guys don't and thats a big problem.  @Mikeytri It's ridiculous. I'm finishing up college so i'm not loaded to begin with. The last few years I've gone home for anywhere between 5 and 15 games per season. I went to the home opener for $110 and sadly I don't think I'll be going to too many more games with the average ticket price being in the $300 range like it was tuesday night. I'll watch the games at home or at the bar with my friends where it will be cheaper and a more enjoyable environment.

@bioinsegnante When a good amount of the crowd is suits and business men you can't expect much energy. This is a completely different topic but with ticket prices being what they are its tough for the average fan to get in. A dad looking to bring his wife and kids to a game is looking at a minimum $500 night between tickets parking food and a stop in the Rangers store. A couple college kids or 20 somethings aren't going to be going to as many games at $100 a pop. MSG has always been a blue collar arena but with ticket prices being what they are it just isn't going to be as loud as it used to be.

@RangerGuy99 Torts was pissed because although it was a close game, we looked awful. He said it in the post game, there were two awful teams out there and we were just the worse team last night. I'd be furious with a performance like that as a coach even if we ended up on the other side of it. Another reason he always looks so angry is because he DOES realize how talented this team is and they aren't doing what they should be. He had a hand in building it so he obviously knows what he has.

The scary part about all of this is that most of the time the concussions that are clearly present from the moment the hit happens heal the quickest. These days later, on and off symptoms typically last A LOT longer than the ones where you are out cold on the ice. Hopefully this isn't the case but from experience and from other NHL players with PCS, this could get very bad very quickly.

@RangerGuy99 Completely agree. Torts is a great coach And I think anyone saying to fire Torts should look at what we had before he got here and what is available now before bashing him. That being said, this isn't a peewee team where the coaches need to be teach fundamentals of the game. These are grown men who get paid a lot of money to play a game they love. There should be very little coaching going on, more directing than coaching is necessary at this level of any sport. I think Torts is frustrated with what is going on and is over compensating for it by over coaching which is a shame but definitely understandable. The accountability and willingness to win needs to come from within the dressing room and not the coaches office, that is the biggest difference between this year and last year in my opinion.

@nick__i I couldn't believe the lack of response to Hagelin getting beat up around the net last night. First behind the net he gets cross checked in the back and not a soul responded and then in the same shift he gets shoved down and everyone skates away. The fact that Cally who is 5'11' has gotten in more players faces after the whistle than anyone else combined is a joke. I'm not going go give my thoughts on the Prust trade and I think the Rupp for Powe trade was great, but last year those were two players you knew were going out on their next shift looking for blood when guys got pushed around like Hagelin did last night. The Enforcer role isn't there and that is going to be a huge problem down the road if nobody steps up.

What is Richards' deal? he has been invisible all season. Since game one he has been nothing short of lazy and reckless with the puck. At least four or five goals against us in the first few games were directly caused because of his blind passes. He has completely lost the concept of back checking. The second Montreal goal last night he didn't even try to keep up with the play when it came out of their zone. He took a few "hard" strides and then pretty much coasted through the neutral zone with his stick in the air while a 3 on 1 went into our zone. He's just been flat all season, yes the rest of the team has been flat too but he has a letter on his chest, he should be a top contributor making plays and putting pucks in the net, not watching the play go into our end and then try to back check when 2 or 3 passes go through Hanks doorstep. Yes he has had a few good moments and that is when he has gotten points but thats it. He's a good player but hasn't showed in consistently from shift to shift never mind game to game. c
