1 day, 13 hours ago on Vigneault Hints At Change In Personnel As Team Holds Closed Door Meeting
A long win streak would be nice but that probably ain't gonna happen. As we've seen in the past Hank can't do it all. Just because he signed a huge contract doesn't mean he will be able to lift the play of this mediocre Sather roster. We are not a terrible team like Buffalo nor are we a good team like Boston, Pittsburgh and apparently every team in the West. This current squad is weaker physically/defensively and still has trouble scoring goals. Big problems to overcome even with a hot goalie. It will take the instant maturing of our young players and a return to former glory for Girardi, Staal and Richards for us to win consistently. Not likely but that would be a real nice Christmas present.....
4 days, 10 hours ago on Time for Henrik Lundqvist to Carry Rangers Out of Mediocrity
Meh...can't win 'em all - especially when your mediocre team plays a good team. How come Tampa Bay doesn't miss the net all the time or shoot right into the goalie's chest? Isn't that what your offense is supposed to do?

A good solid win. scary that it could have been tied in the last 3 mins when Preds hit back to back post shots. We need more goals - but give credit to Preds goalie he made some great saves.
Hey Hey Ho Ho MDZ has got to go! At least off the PP. Entirely. He is lazy. Those two giveaways were ridiculous. Any other defender we have should be out there instead. What happened to Stralman on the PP? He was decent there last year. MDZ also made a few real bad "homerun" passes during 5on5 that turned to icings immediately. Sorry for complaining after a win but MDZ doesn't belong in the lineup if he can't learn from his YEARS of mistakes. Man that kid makes me soooo mad! Totes.
Tampa Bay will be a test. Let's go boys!

@Beckfan5 @AveryYesBettmanNo Nash is the number one forward on this team. He and Lundqvist are the franchise players. period. Will Nash play like that now that he's had 2 concussions...who knows? He's got to be given the chance. That's why he's here. However, that wasn't my point. My point was it's still early enough to tinker with the lineups. It's not a punishment for Zucc or any other forward to be moved around. it might help to better balance the team in the long run. Wait and see.
3 weeks, 4 days ago on Zuccarello to be Bumped Out of Top Six Upon Nash Return
Whoa - peeps need to relax a bit. (even excitable hockey fans)
first off - why hate on Brooks for stating his opinion - isn't that what all of us do here? You kidz might not remember the time before the interwebs but Brooks has been keeping hockey in the sports pages interesting for a long time. The Post was always the best hockey coverage - the Daily News and Newsday never gave it as much attention. Anyway...
We're 18 games into the season with a 9-9 record. Nothing is written in stone. Line ups change constantly and will continue to over the whole season. Let's see what they do. Nash can be a goal scoring stud. He has got to get back into the line up and help bury some of these chances that other Rangers forwards miss. I am concerned that he will be vulnerable to another concussion after one big hit - scary. The best place for him won't be known until AV gets him out there. Let's wait and see instead of knee jerk negative reactions.
Yes we've played better recently. Yes he's made some great passes, but can we hold off on putting Zucc in the hall of fame just yet? If he's as amazing as everyone seems to think here then he'll be fine on any of the top 3 lines. Also - why would Boyle play wing....do we not need him more for his centering/faceoff role?
Not a horrible game, but CAN WE BEAT THE FRICKIN' DEVILS PLEASE! A good team has to stomp on the weaker ones in the standings. Almost losing to Florida and then losing to the Devils again.... depressing.
You can't win them all, but you probably won't win games with sloppy defense. Not gonna get too angry cause we just rolled off a bunch of wins. It's clear though that we still have a ways to go and the team needs to learn how to play smart D under AV's system. More than a few times a game you'll see guys getting lost on coverage and leaving men wide open. Hopefully it will come so we can get above .500 and stay there.
It's silly to blame the refs - real silly. Calls don't always go your way. That's hockey. We get away with stuff too - every team does. What would you say to other teams fans who blamed all Ranger wins on bad calls? Zucc deserved his penalty for slashing at Marty, but Uncle Daddy should have got one too - instead they let him slide and call roughing on a Devil player whose name my brain doesn't care to recall.
A couple of things:
Seems like Hags has cooled off a little huh?
Girardi still looking unlike his old self. It's tough watching him make frequent mistakes with the puck. He looks tentative and nervous sometimes.
I really hate the Devils but I gotta admit I like watching Jagr still doing his thing. I'd root for him to do well on any team.
Forget about this one and move on to the next! (jelly donuts help)

@gmen9892 I find the opposite to your 2) point. Usually its the 30 - 50 yr olds who drink and don't care about sh*t that are really loud and sometimes obnoxious. Younger crowds are too busy tweeting....

@IhaveawaiteratMSG don't forget to scream/chant "uncle daddy"
Let's not be naive peeps. This is nothing new. This is a trend in sports for many decades. Speaking as someone who has been a NY sports fan since i was a kid in the 1970s (hundreds of years ago) I have seen this happen in all the sports I love and try to attend. Ticket prices/cable prices will NEVER go down. Owners will never care about fans as much as profits - it's sports business 101. They exist to make money - period. They know people will always come back or watch on TV. They never have to worry about that. 3 lockouts since '95, including one that cancelled an entire season! We still comeback. It might be easier quitting heroin than walking away from a sport you love. The Rangers (and hockey) are a serious addiction.
Modern sports teams want the corporate and casual fan in the seats spending the big bucks. It's not cool, but it's inevitable in most cities. The suits will pay premium ticket prices and eat and drink everything up and charge it on a work card. Families from the burbs will park in the lots and buy tons of merchandise. It makes business sense that those are the fans they want. Every team does it. It used to be that they sold/reserved a small percentage of seats - usually the best ones - for the corporate suits. Nice seats are a big bonus for companies that do business with Penn Plaza or advertise at MSG. New York just has so many companies here - Ad agencies, financial companies, banks etc... they get a higher percentage of the tix and over the years that percentage has increased big time. For many years the real fans have been priced out and relegated to the blues/400 sec - those are the best sections for fan experience but lets be honest the sight lines aren't the best. I was lucky enough to have a good friend who would sell me tickets every year for section 411. It was awesome. Then she had to give em up cause the season ticket prices got way too high. What can you do? I just watch all the games at home on cable. I only go to one or two games a year if I can get tix that aren't going to make me miss a mortgage payment on my overpriced Brooklyn apt. Remember when the 300s were affordable?
If you haven't fallen asleep reading this here's the last part: A lot of things are contributing to the Garden not being as raucous a place to see a game. Most (not all) of the suits are just enjoying a perk - or conducting business. The casual fan just doesn't care as much. (although it is nice to look at all the models and/or actual/pseudo celebs walking around or waiting for their PR department arranged shot on the jumbo-tron.) Not to sound ancient but most people can't look away from their phones now anyway. It's awkward to be the only person shouting/cheering loudly when no one else in your section is. As the Garden gets sanitized liked this it makes sense that it's quieter. It sucks. Cursing isn't the only way to cheer but I used to have a lot of fun hearing and screaming crazy things or joining in on hard core hockey chants. If you have't done it, starting an "A-S-S-H-O-L-E" chant in MSG is probably the greatest feeling in the world. There is no denying the arena is nicer (unless you have an obstructed view now) - the food is nicer, the beer is better, the bathrooms are cleaner (in the first period), the monitors and scoreboards are pretty but there is just no replacing the passion the "average fan" has for the teams they love. It means more to us - for good or bad. It's a bigger part of your life so you cheer or scream and laugh or cry more. If we aren't there - who's gonna make the noise? Hell no one even cheers when they put up the noise monitor on the scoreboard thingy!!!
sorry - too much time on my hands today. I don't even think I said half of what I wanted to. Anyway... in conclusion we all need to win the lottery and buy back our seats at the garden so we can bring back the original flavor. Peace!
@Hotfreak @AveryYesBettmanNo Let's consider that. Who he has been for almost two seasons straight is an invisible big man with slow feet and no toughness but who is invaluable on face offs. I like him, but I am not the kind of fan who ignores the obvious because i love the team. He needs to play tougher. It will make him and the team more successful. He will never be a quick skilled player - he needs to use his size to his advantage - not being violent - just physical. It's common sense.

@Say my Name @danblackburn @genetics73 @AveryYesBettmanNo
Agree - nicely said. I just think Zucc shouldn't get so much high praise for having done so little in such a short amount of time. His game has gotten much better - I hope he keeps it up.
@genetics73 @AveryYesBettmanNo What? Completely useless comment. Try again.
WOW...relax! All he did was throw a bloop pass into the open space. Very much like a soccer play. It worked out well, but come on..."not too many people in the league"....people mentioning him in the same sentence as Gretzky now? Get a grip. It makes us sound like silly fan boys.... I'm all for blindly loving the team but let's not chuck our hockey brains out the window.
I know we're all excited after a win but let's keep it real peeps.
1 month ago on How About That Pass From Zuccarello?
first off - F Yeah! We kicked the Pens asses.
Very good game from the back end of the first period on. the start of the game could have easily been a nightmare but thankfully Hank decided to bring his "A" game against the Pens. Hank is def not overrated, but there is nothing wrong in pointing out how out right horrible he was to start the season. I think he and the entire team will build on this performance. That being said - who really wants to see the King over used the way he was by Torts? No reason why Talbot can't be used in spots - especially back to back nights.
not sure I understand all the announcer/ref critiques - Pens were absolutely dominating at the start. As for refs - no game is called perfectly - obviously fans are biased towards their team. Most penalties come when you are out of position against a skilled quick team like the Pens and need to resort to obstruction - most of those calls against us were deserved - but we killed them off - more confidence building! Entire team picked up their game and started going to the net with shots and bodies - simple effective game plan. Less endless cycling and less dipsy doodling and passing to no one. Hey it works! Especially agains the Pens who are not the best defensively.
As for Boyle - good game, but I think he should get critiqued on his overall game. It's not incomprehensible....He doesn't use his size and strength well, he does't go to the net enough. He rarely sticks up for a teammate. I love his face-off game, but he needs to take this performance and duplicate the effort EVERY night. Same for Zucc - I like him but everyone overpraises this kid - yes he has heart for a little guy blah blah blah....when he starts putting up consistent points I'll jump on the bandwagon. He is getting into the tough areas more and making better passes - encouraging! He needs to do this because agains a lot of the better teams he (and most small skilled players) is easily erased with physical play. (lots of angry comments coming on my Zucc opinion but whatever...)
Also - did anyone really think Kreider or Crosby were gonna fight? It's just two guys grabbing each other when a scrum breaks out. Silly talk about who would win in a Kreider Crosby fight that was NEVER gonna happen.... I do like Kreider jawing back - he's all grownsed up now! Everytime Crosby opens his mouth on the ice he shows everyone how he is the most highly skilled spoiled cry baby in the world.
I need to shut up now....OMG why did I have such a big coffee this morning!!!
Am I crazy...what's with all the Girardi hate going on? Why would we trade G? He's not having a great year, but who on the team is? Torts ran Girardi into the ground - and Hank too. I think he just needs some time to come back to form. He's a reliable veteran - I know he's not a bruiser, but he's still a pretty solid D-man. Not sure we are gonna get anything great in return that's gonna immediately make the team a lot better with a deal anyway. Peeps are getting trade happy after 14 games....relax. No?
1 month ago on Rangers/Oilers Possible Trading Partners
@gravey94 @mlsranger he's made lots of bad deals too. Bad mentality here in NYC....trading is supposed to help bring in pieces to get better - you cannot hope to build an entire team through trades every other season. It doesn't work - especially in the cap era where mediocre players get too big of the cap pie. Sather had his chance and we've got little to show for it. Next!
@Betweentheworlds I'm confused....are we so bad that all we have to do is compare if one Ranger turnover was worse than the other? Ridiculous. Both were turnovers - both were bad regardless if a goal resulted or not. But they did end in goals. Richards killed a breakout by throwing a terrible weak backhand pass FROM HIS OWN END right to the Ducks. It resulted in the second Ducks goal. Shit happens, but no way thats acceptable from any Ranger especially a veteran.
1 month ago on Ducks 2, Rangers 1
@Paulie Gualtieri good riddance to MDZ. just don't trade him for nothing.
@shoot_the_goalie Good call. Lot's of bad angle shots too. Lots of bad cycling that resulted in give aways or terrible shots that were easily gobbled up by no name goalie or Duck defense. Felt like last year.
painful watching MDZ make rushes up ice that led to no shot or a mile wide wrist shot. Kid's a mess. What happened to the power play? No big point shot means no one is scared to challenge and block. Richards shoots so slow!
