Lutefisk is made from dried whitefish (normally cod in Norway, but ling is also used) prepared with lye in a sequence of particular treatments. The watering steps of these treatments differ slightly for salted/dried whitefish because of its high salt content.
The first treatment is to soak the stockfish in cold water for five to six days (with the water changed daily). The saturated stockfish is then soaked in an unchanged solution of cold water and lye for an additional two days. The fish swells during this soaking, and itsprotein content decreases by more than 50 percent producing a jelly-like consistency. When this treatment is finished, the fish (saturated with lye) is caustic, with a pH value of 11–12. To make the fish edible, a final treatment of yet another four to six days of soaking in cold water (also changed daily) is needed. Eventually, the lutefisk is ready to be cooked.
In Finland, the traditional reagent used is birch ash. It contains high amounts of potassium carbonate and bicarbonate, giving the fish a more mellow treatment than would lye. It is important not to incubate the fish too long in the lye because saponification of the fish fats may occur. The term for such spoiled fish in Finnish is saippuakala (soap fish).

@Iron Brian Good lord, so is Eric Bedard. What the hell kind of list is this ???
@Iron Brian Brad Peacock is on there twice. WTF.
@Purps the Drank It's because of lutefisk. #science
@Purps the Drank @baeksu The day is still young, drank.
Today is goat's birthday?? So Goat and I share the same birthday? Awesome. :)
The biggest concern with Uribe is not his health, in my opinion. The biggest concern with Uribe is that he plays more at the level he played for the majority of his years in a Dodger uniform, instead of playing at the level that he did last year.
@ABSmileBunch @baeksu That sounds like a plan. When it gets closer we'll have to figure that out. My boys are 5 and 6. That would be fun.

@DeucesWild @*~^VNDenergy^~* Bin Laden
@ABSmileBunch @baeksu I'll have to look you up if we come. Might be a good time to introduce my sons to the live version of Dodger baseball. :)
@ABSmileBunch @baeksu Could happen. You going to be there, I assume?
@efb Not sure I've heard that.
In Korea it was explained to me that during some funeral services, they leave out a bowl of rice with the chopsticks sticking out, to be eaten by the spirit or the dead person or somesuch. At any rate, leaving your chopsticks sticking out of the bowl is reminiscent of the gesture.
@*~^VNDenergy^~* As an easily offended person, I'm offended.
@Hoze 8 errors per game should have really impacted batting averages / pitching stats in the early 1870s. #GETOUTOFTHEHOF
@Empress Fluffykins, PhD (2024) @*~^VNDenergy^~* It's manners / rude because it refers to death. It goes back to the death ceremony.
@Batted Bob @baeksu I'm a football fan from Oklahoma. You're going to have to be more concrete than that.

@Live. Breathe. Purple. Drank Mother of God.
"Of the quartet, Magill’s stuff plays best out of the bullpen. "Can someone who knows more about baseball than me (i.e. most of you) explain why some pitchers' stuff is better out of the bullpen than others?
I love Bonifacio as a utility infielder on the bench. Is this a real possibility?
