Amber Pye statistics on SIDS has been gathered and babies who sleep on their backs are the least likely to die of SIDS as opposed to those who sleep prone or on their stomachs. The FSID website is a useful resource about SIDS risks. SIDS rates dropped dramatically when the government launched a campaign called back to sleep in the 90's that recommended putting babies down on their backs based on this research. (An area of interest of mine!)
