My favorite statistic is that since 2001 the SEC champion is 10-1 in bowls against non-SEC teams (winning percentage of 91 percent). Coming into the bowl games, 7 of these teams were ranked 1 or 2, one opponent was ranked #7, one was ranked #9, one was ranked #11, and one was ranked #16. All were conference champions from BCS automatic qualifiers.
In that same span, the SEC champions were 95-14 against SEC teams (87 percent) including last year’s national championship games and the SEC title game. Not saying the average SEC team is better than your average non-SEC conference champion but……..
