@RodMillerUSA Good points Rod. I'm sure his injury history is being considered. The other thing about Love is that he is 25 years-old. Assuming he can be convinced to sign long-term, he's obviously a player you can win now and in the future with. Assuming you don't have to give up too much beyond Wiggins, could be a risk worth taking. Either way, though, the Cavs are in tremendous position to compete for an ECF. Thanks again

@TroyKidwell Yeah I heard Wilkens make that comparison to KJ on the radio recently as well. And he was a backup PG to Mark Price so I get what you're saying on a surplus. But does Andrew Wiggins play LBJ's position? They can certainly play together, but if LeBron is going to be your three? I like Monroe as well. The Cavaliers do need rim protection. But Kevin Love is the best power forward in the NBA and a big three of Kyrie, Love and LeBron is the best Big 3 in basketball. I'll take my chances that Blatt will be able to help instill enough defensive principles to make that lineup work.

@E_D_Valente Good point on Zeller, he def had a solid first half offensively. In the postgame presser, Brown said Zeller only played limited mins in second half for defensive reasons. Said Cavs were giving up too many easy baskets at the rim so he made a change. Not sure if Bennett played better D necessarily, but that was the reason for no TZ not playing in second

@GhostDog9 Good points GhostDog and great White Men Can't Jump reference. I think it's applicable, too. Have to wonder if he's been getting through to these guys. But like you said, I think the presence of Deng along with Varejao could potentially improve that disconnect. Deng's 3Q was maybe an example of this--it kinda helped spark Waiters in the fourth. Hopefully he keeps leading by playing the winning basketball he did last night. Thx man

Good stuff as always Bric. I like the idea of bringing Lighty into camp, always have. I think that David Lighty's ability on the defensive end of the floor gives him an opportunity to play in the NBA over other guys w/ his size and skill set offensively. Think he could be Dahntay Jones-ish, and mean that as  a compliment. Dahntay will play 10+ in the NBA. Not sure GW and/or AM are attainable/realistic options though.

@Bric Good points as always Bric. I do think - while I don't know and haven't heard anything along these lines from anybody - that Manny Harris on a 10-day like he currently is does have something to do with maybe a Sessions deal down the road. While Ramon is technically a back-up PG - and does play those minutes - he also plays a lot of minutes lately alongside Irving like. So maybe they want to find out if Manny can do that, in the event of a deal. Thanks for the comments buddy.

I agree with what you wrote totally in that "ultimately, the decision may rest in what the return for Varejao is" as well. I just have a feeling the return for him right now could be higher than we think it might be come deadline time. I also agree with you too in that there is absolutely no reason to trade Andy "just because" as well. I don't think Chris Grant would do that either, I don't think he operates that way, which is a pretty good sign for this rebuild IMO. Lessons learned from recent eras gone by maybe. Thanks for the comment my man.

@Bric Bric, honestly I cannot agree with you more regarding the way these two young guys have carried themselves off the court thus far.

I spent time talking to Tristan for a SLAM feature I did on him, and after we spoke for a while, my biggest takeaways were how refreshingly humble he is in addition to how very serious he is about being a good teammate, improving as a player, and simply helping his team win. Kyrie Irving appears the same way too.

This coupled with your point about them both being extraordinary talents, is def pretty exciting. Especially, like you said, when you rewind back to that Ricky Davis led group once coached by Paul Silas.

Great points, appreciate the comment.

@Mikethefan Razor Ramon is a great nickname Mike, well played. So first of all, thanks for that. Secondly, on the teams Razor fits with:

1. Knicks - Agreed. And I really do think Shumpert will start at the SG spot this season for NY, he will be good too. Landry Fields was pure speculation on my part, but it is also a good point by you on his trouble adjusting to playing with 'Melo. Shumpert will do his damage in transition, off of defensive steals and turnovers primarily, so for that reason he does fits better.

2. Memphis - I hadn't thought of that, but possibly as a back-up to Mike Conley. They do have a lot of wing players like you said, especially if they sign Battier, but the flip-side of that for the Grizzlies is they also liked some of what Greivas Vasquez brought last season plus they drafted Josh Selby (who will prob play some PG) high in the 2nd round too. So maybe they don't need a back-up PG - technically - however Razor is better than both Vasquez and Selby right now too.

Good stuff man.

@AndrewSchnitkey Thanks for dropping by Rock, thoroughly solid piece yesterday.

And good point on the Cavs trading Davis. You're right in that the Cavs would be basically sellers in that sense, forced to sweeten the pot in order to move him. That, coupled with his influence on this young team is enough for me to hold on too.

And Hickson would be coming out the ACC with Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler if he stayed through his senior campaign this draft, and I just think it's too soon to move him also. Plus, I don't think Derrick Williams would be that much better than even the guy at four, say Kanter, that it's worth parting with JJ to move up and snag him.

@mrsnacks I appreciate the passion sir, as well as your incredible guts to have called out Cleveland in the fashion with which you have. I imagine the repercussions of that have made life more challenging for you on some levels, and I respect the fact that you have taken a stance for something you believe so strongly in.

To be clear on my collection of thoughts detailed in the above piece, however, I was not offereing support to the arguement that the Heat should trade LeBron James. I am simply saying that I am astounded by the fact that this subject has even been suggested, and equally shocked that on some levels it could even make sense.

My thoughts as a Clevelander are that I didn't want to see him win an NBA title. After watching him lose, however, and listening to the fall-out from that - which has included talk of even trading him - I'm not comfortable watching him lose to this degree either.

If he doesn't take strides both mentally with regards to his belief in himself, as well making adjustments to his game, this talk will continue. And he's better than that, he needs to take the steps necessary to make this sort of talk go away forever.

You pretty much nailed all key points in this preview bro. Oh and 2 and a half men? lol. That's a good thing you copyrighted that because I was about to steal that from you.

Amazing stat with regards to Barea, 53 points in 59 minutes. I agree he will be extremely critical. If they get that type of production, any lead the Heat starters build early is at risk. Especially if Terry comes with production as well.

Unfortunately I also agree with regards to how you laid out Miami's options in defending Dirk. Bosh, Haslem, James, as you mention all - on paper - have as good a shot at slowing him down or frustrating him as anybody DAL has faced so far in the playoffs.

Did I pick up the prediction you kinda slipped in there on the sneak btw? Miami in 6? Can't say I disagree. I'm done convincing myself somebody can beat this Heat team. They kinda are what we thought they'd be this summer when they rolled out two HOFers and a perennail All Star. Should be an interesting series tho, take a monumental effort from DAL in my opinion.

If year end revenues improve here at Stepien Rules the first investment made will be a Europen Scouting budget David, pinky swear on that.

Depending on where that Clippers pick ends up (assuming it's towards the middle / end of the lottery (7-11 range) I could see Morris as a possibility. Trey Tompkins from GA is a good player and I agree with you as well from what I've seen on the things he can do with the basketball. Especially for his size.

If he had come out I'd be all for the Sullinger pick, and agree with you there as far as how much better his stock might end up looking next year as opposed to this one, but we'll see I guess.

Lastly, like you talked about with injuries to the PF, initially you might think they Cavs are as good at PF as they are any position, however like you said when you factor in the injuries we've just seen and the fact that one or two of those rotation guys are gonna have to play C, the Cavs could go PF early with that second lottery pick.

Hopefully the first one's Irving tho.
