@susanmarie24 agreed, and it is because of that lack of follow through - and assertiveness, that this has occurred, and the rest of the World perceives this Country as weak, and things like this will continue as long as the perception is that we will do nothing.... except make hollow threats and pronouncements

@YankeePapa @KineticFury @ArcticWarrior YP..will have to check my references, but I believe period (War of Southern Independence) training manuals, like Hardee's School of the Soldier, Company, and Battalion taught forming squares...I know we practiced it as reenactors during drill evolutions...trying to be 'correct and all'.

@YankeePapa I saw what you did there...;-)
I'll put my tinfoil hat on too, Watchmaker42 and join you... wouldn't put it past Putin to pull a stunt like that....he is a chess player...

Great article, Kerry, and spot on comment YP... couldn't agree more with both of you.
In fact, YP, re:your E.R. Murrow comment, I think, the death throes of 'journalism' began with Kronkite's opining on National news that we had lost Viet Nam...

Merry CHRISTmas, Chief, to you and yours, and a VERY Merry CHRISTmas to all those that serve and can't be home with their Families, and the same to their Families who wait. I pray a safe return to the 'World' to all those on foreign shores and in dangerous places

Hey, J!! Agree with Brad on this...although I put your article slightly above Moosehead... so I guess that puts you solidly in the top spot, eh?
Keep up the good work, and can't wait for the rest. C'est bon!

@Jake75@oldSquid(Mafia)not any harder than white tail... other than skin is 'thicker' and tougher... you can do a 'standard' field dress, - go in through abdomen, or a 'western style I call it... split the skin from base of skull down backbone, take the backstraps, then peel down, take shoulders and hams... of course that leaves the ribs, sidemeat (bacon) and 'tenders' under the backbone and ribs below the backstraps.

@Jake75@oldSquid(Mafia) at the time I had a Ruger Mini -14 for 'varmints 'n such'... went to an area looking for Whitetail (with my trusty 30-06) but carried the Mini as well.... Deer Rifle was in a tripod stand 30 feet up, Mini on my shoulder with me on the ground (was coming out of the tripod) when I saw the bunch of pigs - 6 adults and a handful of piglets... let loose on the biggest adult, shot four times, at the front shoulder where the heart is, heard four bullets smack the beast... never slowed down... after the second shot they ALL started the panic dance. After the fourth, I was so pissed I stopped shooting and they headed for the deep woods.

@Jake75 @oldSquid(Mafia) shot placement is key... I've seen 'em put down with 30cals (308 & 30-06). I did shoot 'at'one several years ago with a .556... hit it four times and it never slowed down. They have a 'shield' that covers their forequarters to protect them from the tusks of other male rivals...so, yeah... they can be tough to kill. Studying their anatomy helps... their heart is a little forward of where you would aim on a whitetail, and lies almost covered by the front leg.
@Jake75 was gonna say, damnedest hawgs I've ever seen, jn that scope, but you beat eto it, Jake..LOL...hogs are aproblem in Texas - and elsewhere. On the upside, if harvested correctly, they make tasty sausage and stuff!
JW. Good Article on a tough subject. Sorry about the loss of your friend.
I know that right now Chief Webb's article on running for the NRA board is "stealing most of the oxygen in the the room", but keep up the good work that you're doing in this area.

@SEAN SPOONTS(MAFIA) well said, Sean.Good points.
I also agree with Chief Webb's idea about training being done along the lines of PADI or NAUI training for SCUBA. Both are 'private organizations' and have standardized training for that sport and have 'proper' control over the hobby and promoting safety. NRA could achieve the same, preventing the cluster fornication a gov't sponsored, controlled, and run program would become...as you pointed out.
Chief, you have my vote as I mentioned in shoutbox, and I will spread the word to all my rowdy friends now that you've put this out and I can show the 'basis for your platform' to them!
@Puncher75 "weak and rudderless place"... love the term and aptly explains what our society/culture is becoming....nobody is responsible for their actions and everybody is a victim and deserving of 'fair treatment'... holey geebuss on a gold plated crutch... if I did something wrong as a kid, I could expect NJP of the 'pld school variety' from my Old Man...30year Chief Boatswain... hell, even after I joined, I kept my nose clean..not only out of respect, but also that fact I was brought up with...if I screwed up, whatever punishment I received, it would be double at home...lol. fortunately, we didn't have a forwrd anchor locker at the house...

@Ullr @oldSquid(Mafia) well..I'll be hornswoggled... Then, he should know better than to attempt that argument.. From my limited experience most ( like others here, there may be a very few that should have a second look due to 'mitigating'' circumstances) of the other than Honorable Discharges awarded are valid - and deserved. I don't think many Officers would just hand them out 'willy-nilly'. I earned my Honorable Discharge and am proud of it.. By awarding Honorables to those that do not deserve it because of their not qualifying for an Honorable Discharge, due to malfeasance or whatever caused the less than Honorable, cheapens the Honorable Discharge for those that earn them by serving Honorably and performing well... guess it all goes back to the PC belief that 'everybody wins'...
