It’s sad to think that others don't see the importance of retirement planning until it is already too late. We all want to live comfortably later, off traveling the world, or settle some place where it's more relaxing. The younger you start planning for your retirement, the better.
No matter how much you saved for your retirement, you should know how to properly handle them. Know how to manage your money because if you are not careful enough, you might not enjoy the fruits of your hard-earned money. It's good to retire. But it would be better if you are retired and not broke.
Dedication and discipline play huge role on how you save. The same with how you value money as well. Just like what @CKBethy said, you have to take it one step at a time. It's difficult to take it first step but once you did, you are on your way to reaching your financial goals.
All of these are quite helpful and true. There is indeed no magic number since it is relative to every person because not all priorities, salary, and expenses are the same. One thing I've practiced though is not to spend first, and save the rest. It should be to put money in the bank and then spend what is left.
I like your idea of homemade cleaners. I also have something to add about saving on electricity bills. With the usage of heaters during winter, it's a pain seeing the cost so high during the season so what we did was we open the curtains during the day to allow sunlight inside our home. We don't turn it on as long as we can. It’s the same thing during summer. We open the windows to let the wind go in during the day instead of using air-conditioners. It’s all about making little sacrifices in order to save money.
You can also avoid being scammed online if you do your research first. Read some reviews about the site you want to deal with. It's convenient to shop online as long as you know your credit card information is being protected.
It's a talent to shop in a thrift store. When I visit one, I make sure I shop alone and I only bring the amount I want to spend. With all of those sales, who knows what you can find. Some, you don't even need.
Some of these gifts are unique indeed. But I can't imagine my dad being a DJ though. Haha. I bought him a bug out bag once... Put a smile on my ol' man's face... That was priceless.
It doesn't only apply to your computer. Turning off your electronics as well as your other home appliances and then removing the plugs from the power outlet can definitely make a lot of difference to your monthly electricity bill.
The key is to get these teens to understand the value of saving. A lot of parents are just giving their children all of these latest gadgets and trendiest clothing that they don't work for it anymore. They should learn set goals, save, and then get them to be excited about it.
