You still can't give away a 23 year old dman who has shown flashes of exactly who we need on the blue line. This is a trade that will burn the Rangers badly I feel if made.
2 months, 1 week ago on Del Zotto's Agents to Discuss Trade With Rangers
HE'S A 23 YEAR OLD DMAN #1 PICK.
Let me repeat: he's 23, playing the hardest position in hockey. He was totally screwed up by his last coach but was arguably the Rangers' best dman for the first half of the travesty that was last year and at other points in his short career to date. Sather cannot trade him, period. It would be beyond stupid. Then why not trade McIlraith as others drafted ahead of him are already accomplished players in the NHL. No logic there either.
Now for a dman that other teams hopefully still think has value, I offer Dan Girardi. Have to believe a team like the Oilers would take him in a heartbeat. He was used and abused and spit out in Torts' system. While he still makes the odd good play, for an undrafted player who was an all-star we got more than anyone ever expected out of G. Let's get whatever we can from what's left.

Hey Tim. One thing I'm thinking about is taking the subjectivity out of the judging. In the Vera fight I'm sure JCC won rounds because he threw HARDER punches, albeit very few of them, but the judges rewarded that. Keep that as one of the scoring criteria, of course, but on a sliding scale. More blows landed should outweigh one or two hard punches that landed in a round. Of the pittypat variety, no, but Vera's would not be considered that by anyone I don't think. There are many ways to go with that. Breaking a round into thirds. My favorite would be having all three officials watch the same fight in one location either at the ring or on TV monitors, therefore seeing the exact same thing. Maybe we'd have less of this nonsense.

@greyskies67 the only guy I suggested trading was Boyle. Girardi right now is worthless.

As everything above points out, last year's team is vastly different than this year's team. There is no comparison. That said, this idiot of a coach still thinks it is last year's team and just expects this team to do what last year's team did. It ain't gonna happen. Early in the season I wrote somewhere that this team was the only team in the league that didn't have five D averaging double figure minutes. Don't know what it is now but I suspect it has inched into having six D with 10 mins or more. Maybe not. A bigger fact is there's no Michael Sauer. He was huge for us in the absence of Staal. Right now there's no Staal, who had been our best dman by far this season. Girardi, who I've advocated trading the last few years because he was at his highest value then, has regressed because of all the minutes he's played the last few seasons and the pain he hides on an everyday basis this year. McDonagh is not the same after that hit that took him out for a few games. His decision making is, well, the decision making of a 2nd year dman. Our best dmen, MDZ and Stralman, cannot be your best dmen if you expect to contend. Ditto for our now best 3rd dman, Steve Eminger. Start there. This coach seems not to want to see the reality and still has this year's team trying to play like last year's team. The difference is the offensive talent we have, starting with No. 61. I don't think any team, on paper at least, has a top six like the Rangers. 61, 19, 62, 19, 10 and 24 are pretty fucking good. Let 'em loose. Throw in JT and bring back Kreids and your top eight are dangerous. 19 will get better. Giving #10 the benefit of the doubt here, he has to be able to play better with a different coach/coaching style. I like Powe, Pyatt and Halpern to shut teams down. Boyle's gotta go. Hank will stop most of the mistakes. This team should be able to outscore most on any given night. They won't win otherwise. Probably won't even make the POs if they don't.
@KevinDeLury I know, Kevin, but we have to do something to combat bettman's belief that "the fans will always come back," like we're sheep. I'm fed up. I will NEVER step foot in the Garden again, and for me and my son that's tragic but I'm done. For us to act like it's not a big deal, making up scores, watching games repeated on the nhl network or msg, that shows that we will come back. I won't even wear a NYR cap in the street. Make a dent in the TV ratings and that will show something else is up. I feel like I'm fighting this battle by myself. @occupythenhl

This isn't funny. Games are canceled, treat them that way. Don't try to keep people coming to this site by having "fun" imagining how the games would turn out. I know it's depressing but it should be. I am really fucking mad how everyone is making light of this in some way to make it palatable.
@TomUrtzNYR I'd love a 2nd/3rd line combo of Step, Kreids and Hags, and then Boyle, Doan and Cally. That top 9 rivals anyone in the league's, including flyers.

If Torts doesn't continue to use Artie as his scapegoat for everything that goes wrong with his team, he actually might build some confidence and show what he can do. And he can do a hell of a lot. Already terrific defensively, he will be a consistent 20+ goal scorer IF Torts gives him the same room to grow as he did with MDZ this past year. As far as Stepan, he had a fine 2nd season. Still hit a wall at the end of the season as he had in his rookie year, but can only get better. Kreids and Step and Hags is the first line of the future NYR.

Kevin, I agree totally. I thought Dubi and Zucc both should have been in the lineup last night, but I guess Rupp still is in b/c of what he did at the WC as there's absolutely no other reason for him to play. Thought Boyle should also have come out but he was unfeasible on faceoffs last night. But Zucc for Rupp for sure.
Wow. Besides the top two, who I think would have been at the top of their class in any era, this is an indictment of the state of boxing as it exists now. Not much to speak of. They all have as many positives about their game as they do negatives.

Kevin, I know it's not the first time it's happened, and it's happened in the playoffs i believe to another team, definitely many times in the regular season. If workers at a position for a major corporation had as many fuck-ups as these nhl officials, they wouldn't have jobs. The fact they still do speaks volumes about the league. That along with the beyond absurd "response" to the continued problem with head shots, at a point in the nhl season were they have more viewers than ever, is mind boggling. And along with the officials not doing their job correctly, shanaturd should be fired too, committing as many mistakes as he does, reasoning calls and non-calls with no consistency whatsoever, contradicting himself with every video review he produces to explain his inane decisions. I love this sport. No other sport imo produces as many glorious moments as hockey. No other sport has athletes that perform so superbly on a surface that many can barely walk on, let alone do what hockey players do. It sickens me that almost every day through these playoffs we've had incidents that degrade this sport beyond any i remember in all my years of watching this game. I don't know how many more tweets or blog posts i can make as this continues. It's wearing me down. I know the players, at least publicly, post game, don't say much if anything about the calls or non-calls on the ice, particularly when they contribute to a team winning as happened saturday afternoon, but how can it not get to them also? they bust their asses to have a game decided not by themselves or the other team. it has to be the most deflating thing that can happen to an athlete.

If you saw Anderson's PC he said he just forgot about it being the last game of the series. He called it a "head fart." He was sincere.

I'd play Scott tonight so he can kick the shit out of Neil, get thrown out and then we can play the rest of the game like we have to. We HAVE to make a statement tonight. Ottawa thinks they can push the Rangers around, as they have the entire series. Tonight's the last chance to show some cojones.

while we are up 2-1, we're doing it with smoke and mirrors. reminds me of the caps series three years ago where hank stood on his head and if he didn't we had no chance. and we lost because of hank burning out.
what happened to that relentless forecheck pressure? no sign of that even at the end of the regular season. they are being outhit and giving up way too many shots. they need to get physical with this team. wonder if carkner goes back in whether scott plays. methinks so. can't let that happen again.

Really wish Torts would give Artie some time on the first line. While Gaby and Richie are still connecting, Hags seems a bit out of it. Although they would lose Hags' aggressive play on that line. Funny how the littlest guy is the most aggressive on that first line.

My choice was Gaborik. If Girardi played at the same level all year as he did in the earlier part of the season, he would be my choice. But probably through no fault of his own, his minutes caught up to him imo and he flat out sucks now. Just as he did last year.
