@LiterallyPFP @Hoze Yeah, I saw it. Its an effort for me type anything (partially due to laziness) so when I want to share that the team going after these two guys shouldnt be overlooked, but dont want to be detailed about it, then it does get "Let's get Tanaka!!"-y

sorry, but I do also like repeating it.. Especially since by not seeing people talk about the scenario and so assuming that they dont think it isnt a likely nor a good option..

@LiterallyPFP @Hoze when the FA SS class looks like: Barnes, Cabrera, Drew, Herrera, Lowrie, Lucas and McDonald..

and the FA C potentially highlights: Arencibia, Laird, Pierzynski, Soto and Ross..

.. I get to thinking that finding talent at these two positions will have to come via trades. And anything short of spending heavily for young, productive and/or cost-controlled (i.e.  Grandal, Alexis Ramirez) will have to be for guys that the team has to overlook in one of the those 3 criteria.

Yeah, Ruiz and Rollins are old, and Amaro is stubbornly overvaluing his players, but if he ever lowers his demands over the next few weeks these players should definitely be considered as effective short-term replacements.

No big FA moves would be fine by me.. McCarthy, Ruiz and Rollins should complete the roster.

@Penguin Dragoon @Hoze Hamels if the most interesting option, but I have more hope that Amaro will be more reasonable when shopping these two. They arent likely to perform to same as last year, but anything close to it without having to give up 2-3 top prospects (hopefully) should be considered. There arent many great, or even decent, options. I think Ruiz, for 2 years, is a low-risk move. Rollins could regress more next year and although Alexis Ramirez is potentially available and a better option than Rollins, he will require a bigger package.

@666foldamort @Hoze @TheConman Hamels will be signed until he's 34. Scherzer is near the same age and I cant see him signing a contract around 4 years at around $22 million/yr.

@TheConman still would. It all depends on the level of interest and how reasonable, or unreasonable, Amaro is.. one of Urias/Joc and lower level prospects would be palatable but we'll what the demands are if any talks do occur..

@LiterallyPFP yes, this is a concern. Im sure it will be taken into consideration in negotiations. I wouldnt mind the signing a 4th starter with injury history over spending $20+ million on considerably not guaranteed-to-be better options.

Just Rollins and Ruiz is enough.

Rollins, Ruiz a& McCarthy would be complete the roster nicely.

@moneynow27 Rollins seems to be the least costly route. Older than most options, but he can be valuable.

Rollins+Ruiz+McCarthy would close out the offseason very nicely, I think.

@Barney (Not Darwin) @Diane. Ned Colletti's new position coordinator I dont think any wanted the team to use all 3 to obtain Hamels. Just using one of them would be fine, but that probably isnt going to happen.

@capnsparrow I dont know if its possible to replace him offensively, but its not necessary when improvements in other areas can offset his loss i.e. replacing Ellis with Carlos Ruiz and/or signing/trading for a solid #4 starter to minimize runs allowed throughout the season.
