Not just King's unabridged STAND, but Gaiman's "Author's Preferred Text" of AMERICAN GODS, Heinlein's uncut STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND and others, the Del Rey/Wandering Star Robert E. Howard collections, going back to manuscript versions of the stories and so on...

...it seems like the "Director's Cut" already exists in the book field.

@noisyking As I understand it, the reason lefties are at an advantage in pitching, too, is that batters, by training and experience, build their swings for what they're going to face most often. If most pitchers were lefties they'd train for that and have an advantage, but they don't, because they need to focus on what they'll see most often.

And now I feel like I should add a paragraph recommending a betting site. But I won't.

Sadly, Superman grew up a Royals fan. And these days he roots for the Metropolis Monarchs.

It's Aquaman who grew up in coastal Maine.

He might be a good manager, though, being a king and all. And the fact that flying fish keep buzzing the visitors' dugout is just a freakish coincidence, that's all.

I suppose I shouldn't be shocked when I Google "Viking porn" and find out there actually is some. Even Viking cartoon porn. Yeeks!

At least it wasn't necessary. Go Sox!

Another oddity of that cover -- Crawford is in a home uniform, Jeter is in an away uniform, but they're in Yankee Stadium. Also not Mark's error, but the SI editors' request.

3 years, 3 months ago on The Post-All-Star Game Home Run Derby

Reply

My pal Mark Bagley drew that SI cover, and I got to weigh in on which players to show.

[I also pointed out that he'd left off Crawford's neck tattoo, and he offered to add it in, but the SI editors didn't think it mattered. The whole thing was done in a tearing hurry; maybe two days from the assignment to the magazine going off to press.]
