IF you have to move either of these guys, you'd have to make it Petey ONLY because he has more value right now. The return would have to be right as well. I think getting .289/.327/.431 out of K-Mo is better than what we got out of him last year, or frankly, more than what we expected from him this year. At any given at bat the guy can still blister a ball, although I get all shaky & twitchy when Sosh bats K-Mo behind Albert and before Trumbo but I flip flop on that myself.

Speaking of spiderman in your final paragraph, I would like to take this opportunity to include my opinion regarding all this mumbo jumbo mentioned in Angelsville about the freeing up of Torii Hunter money as if it were a foregone conclusion. I think Torii has more than shown that he can still produce. Furthermore, having one of the games most  decorated soldiers, along with his fan favorite status, I can't understand why everyone is ok with the notion that Torii would ride off into the sunset as anything but an Angel.

I will offer an alternative endings to the Torii Hunter era:

1. We just win the whole thing this year and Torii pulls a Jerome Bettis and retires before they even parade down Katella.

2. We win it all this year and Torii takes a home town discount to try and win one more & pull a John Elway, retiring after a Back to Back to end his career

I know I should have saved this for a "What to do with the Torii Hunter situation" piece, BUT, I don't recall seeing one - Monkeys, please feel free

I say get him, no, I won't say it...I'll  YELL IT...G E T   H I M!!! Our offense, if performing the way it is supposed to, our bully is OVER performing, defense is fine; the one aspect of this team that is underperforming is the starting rotation that was "supposed" to be one of the best in the game. A solid arm to shore up the mess that is our roation after Weaver/Wilson would really, I think, put us over the top and more than legitimize our chances (and likelyhood) of catching and passing the Rangers. None of us REALLY want to play a "play in" game and passing the Rangers is the only way to avoid such a potential disaster. Furthermore, if 2011 Dan Haren comes back that would truly give us  the best rotation in the game.

A 3 man, playoff rotation of Weave/C.J./Zack would be formidable, if not dominant. Additionally, with the team we appear to have for the foreseeable future, why would he NOT want to sign long term in Anaheim.

As far as who to send to Brew Town - start with Petey, he deserves to play daily. Throw in Hank if need be, we all know he is the child that will never gain the acceptance of the father that is Sosh. Furthermore, Ianetta will be back soon & Hester/Wilson ARE > Mathis. If Petey+Hank can't get it done, throw in a Andy Romine....just make sure to sign the kid long term, at LEAST 3 yrs

Sorry GW...I could not read this all the way through. Who the h3ll is this Reagins guy ANYWAYS?? JeDi and his moves are all I care about now, well, that and the 8 game winning streak we are on with our Ranger friends on their way into a HOT Anaheim. 8 game winning straks don't come around very often, especially when a potential sweep of the Yankees is looming.

Haren said it best and I'm paraphrasing "we are just playing to our potential right now...we aren't doing anything special, just playing our game". And when the Angels are all clicking, not even the Yankees can stop us.

@John Brown Good point on the Napoli situation. I was trying to sell the "why is Mathis even here when we have Napoli" kool-aid and what happens, we send him to Toronto who after we do them the HUGE favor of taking ole Verno off their hands, they thank us by sending Naps to Texas. The Scioscia angle on this is his defiance (then & now) to play the better overall player for an allegience that makes no sense and is a detriment to the team. This explains PBJ sitting and Vernon playing. This explains AP STILL hitting in the 3 when if Trumbomb was, we'd probaly have at LEAST 3 more victories and MT would have at LEAST 10 more RBI's.

First of all God Bless y'all @MWAH for being able to follow AND write about our beloved team this year. I, for one, sincerely appreciate it. Secondly, wake me up when we are in second place. I too have no reason to rejoice a win that we should be able to count on when looking at the schedule. The only thing about Angels baseball that I even care about these days is all of the greatness that is the Trout & Trumbo show. Everything else, including-but not limited to- Pujols jacks & victories over lame teams (well ANY teams), are all gravy. Thirdly (is that a word) and finally, can we please start a campaign to get Trout & Trumbo on the All Star Team. Weaver and/or Wilson will make it on their own, but Trout isn't even on the ballot, is he? We need to make a HUGE effort because he completely deserves to be there.

As far as I am concerned let Harper have the ink. I think at the end of the day it is going to be known that Trout is the better ALL Around player. Remember, chicks dig the long ball and that's Harpers claim to fame. Shoot, he can mash out 50 for all I care, he wo't have trouts speed or fielding or overall hits/bases. We have the better guy - no question.

OR is it that we finally have a GM & Owner who in tandem, want to win and aren't going to sit around and wait for things to just happen. I MUST be reading this all wrong because I can't imagine that this is a complaint. As a matter of fact seeing Wells dropped/released will not shock me because our "outfield of the future" NEEDS to have PBJ & Trout in it - PERIOD. Additionally, if Torii doesn't come back or sucks when he does, Trumbo would only need to do so much in the field considering all the gound the Wonder Kids can cover. I don't think Sosh is going anywhere, which means that Pujols will stay in the 3 and we will lose potenial runs and games over his veteran loyalty program. That being said, I think Arte & JeDi are going to do everything they can to win...and win now. IF they do all the moves they can and we still suck, there will be only one glaring reason. How the people in power in Anaheim handle that, remains to be seen.

As far as "Would I have made the same moves?"  Given all the same opportunities...HECK YEAH! A few changes/differences MAY have been:

*Abreu would have been gone 3 seconds after his "trust these people" comment

*Hatcher may have been replaced over the offseason if a solid enough canditade was available.

*Does Pujols appear to be a bust currently, sure, but I still would have made the move...ok, MAYBE I would have gotten Fielder (less yrs/less$$$) but one of the two WOULD have been an Angel by Christmas

In short, The JeDi has yet to make a move I HAVEN'T liked. Is that a problem?? Nope...not one bit.

You know what, HOW long has it been where an opposing pitcher who is making his big league debut, or first start back from a rehab assignment or a 1-3, 6.5+ ERA guy comes out and looks like the second coming of Cy Young???? The last few years it has been commonplace - maybe Hatcher keeps his job, it's likely that Scioscia is going nowhere...with Sosh at the helm its probable that AP will remain in the 3 for the next 9 seasons straight; all that being said, somethings gotta give.

Wow, well, I had no idea it was that bad. Unfortunately, I am drinking the Anti Scioscia Kool Aid. NOT because we are a crap team with SO much talent and payroll, but because of decsions like this. Petey batting .200 has aa better WAR than Wells because he can do more than Wells can. Even if it is only the facts that he can cover more ground in the field and go 1st to third ...better is better. Scioscia plays the vets regardless of what the stats show (case in point, 2011 Bobby Abreu) to the detriment of the team. he has been doing this for a few years now and I am of the opinion that it is all coming to a head.

You mentioned "swinging at career-high percentage of pitches out of the strike zone" and without looking at the stats this has to be a Pujols problem as well. Isn't that what a hitting coach is to notice, address and fix in a professional ball player?? Is swinging at bad pitches in the hopes of getting lucky something that Hatcher is teaching....because it sure looks like it to me.

A few questions for all of us Halo faithful to really ponder...Would Tito Francona allow such a thing? Does Mark McGuire have a more aggressive/hands on approach to taking hitters out of self induced, swinging at bad pitches slumps? Would LaRussa come out of retirement for a return the the West Coast? Is it just me or is this season painfully reminicent of a 2006 season where we had all the reason in the world to think the AL West was ours only to never gain the traction to put together a solid handful of winning months of baseball?

I am resigned to caring only that Mike Trout continues to dominate. Albert Booujols can tell everyone he wants to to be patient. Real easy to be patient w/$240 mm in your pocket. More so than that, with a talent base and payroll that we have coupled w/ our performance, I can no longer disagree with those yelling for Scioccia's head. Hey Tito, do you really like the Booth??? In closing I'll circle back to the only thing I care about, at this point, about the rest of this season. Two words...Mike Trout.

Devil: Be preparred to be made absolute fools of in Arlington. Look back to September 1998. We actually had a chance to bounce the Rangers of the top of the division and we were completely outclassed and embarrassed on national TV, in our own yard. Expect nothing less than that.

Angel: Facing the Rangers is exactly what we need to get this season back to some respectability. Winning this series, if not sweeping the Rangers in THEIR yard will be the first step in taking back the AL West. The first step towards putting an AL Team in the World Series that can actually win.

Devil: Yeah ha ha ha, keep dreaming. You still have the ball and chain that is Mr. Pujols on the roster. He is doing nothing for you now and will keep delivering nothing!

Angel: Let Albert work through this and come back to earth when he ios good & ready, in the meantime, we have the national stage set for us to display Mr. Mike Trout. He will do for us with his speed and ability to hit the baseball in the gaps, what needs to be done. A little splash of a resurgent Torii Hunter and it won't matter what Pujols does/doesn't do....Plus Darvish isn't going to last the season this way especially in Arlington and our two best pitchers give us a SOLID chance to take 2 of 3. Put that in your drink and stir it!!!

Devil...

Angel: Thats what I thought....let's do this!

I was Mr. Optimistic yesterday and strive to continue...HOWEVER, Mr. Pujols, we HAVE a problem. I was discussing our $240MM man with a fellow Arizona based Halo's fan, and I am afraid that I am shortly going to become actually angry at this entire scenario. AP had a HUGE spring. None of us saw even the slightest hint of what has become a sub .200 display to date. You know, if he was hitting even .280 with a respectable 25 RBI, and his lone HR, we may be griping but at least there would be SOME production. Dude doesn't even have 25 HITS!!! Instead we have an "easy out, easy out" chant amongst the infield players around the American League. I am not yet boiling mad, but I am simmering. AP keeps saying be patient. If that is because he THINKS he knows who he is and is taking his 11 yr superstar numbers for granted. To paraphrase a NON quote "I'm Albert Pujols and have more HR than Mickey Mantle & more RBI that Ted Williams...I'll be fine" - if that's the case, we have a problem. IF he IS looking at video and he IS making adjustments, outside of shaving, everything SHOULD eventually work itself out. All I know is the "Machine" is batting a cool .190 and looks more like Jeff Mathis than Albert Pujols. This isn't about Home Runs...this is about production, in the middle of the line up, from someone who was supposed to be a HUGE piece of the "offensive woes" puzzle. I am a loss to the Twins and losing 2 of 3 to the Rangers away from a complete meltdown...hows that for optimism???

Ok, first of all, we ARE going to catch the Rangers...starting this weekend in Arlington. IT IS MAY!!!! Not August! Plus, ask the 1995 Mariners/Angels about DOUBLE DIGIT leads LATE in August. The Halos are starting to wipe the sleepy out of their eyes and when the sleeping giant awakens, the rest of baseball needs to watch out.

Secondly, I think the JeDi has already shown that not only are we built to win...NOW, but he isn't going to sit around and watch us flounder. Less than 30 games in the season, JeDi pulls, well a JEDI move to bolster the bully.

I know it hasn't happened yet, but when the arms/bats/gloves are all firing on all cylinders, we have all the talent and potential to not just be good...but absolutely DOMINANT!!

Lastly, God DOES care about baseball. Point #1, Mike Trout...Point 2, without complete nuisances like the Yankees & Red Sox for us to have rivalries with, where would the fun be?? Point 3...how else do you explain the Giants beating the Rangers in 2010. Point 4 the Rangers losing again last year. Point 5...Mike Trout

I will rest my case with those points for nopw, but welcome any detractors.

I may no longer be a resident of Southern California, but this troubles me deeply. Likely it is only an emotional reaction, one that I am more than proud to admit to. When ever people skoff at the LA of Anaheim moniker, I tell them "Look, I don't care what Arte calls the team, keep them winning, keep them red, and keep them in Anaheim and ALL is OK". If any of those change, then "Anaheim, we have a problem"!

Now look, "I get it". I get what a move to LA COULD/SHOULD mean. However, Orange County fans are NOT going to drive to LA 81 times a season. Which would mean Dodger fans who DO drive to that general location would have a choice to make...Dodgers or Angels? Believe me you Dodger fans are just as loyal to their team as Angels fans are to it's team. L.A. may have 3.8 MILLION people but they are DODGER people, NOT ANAHEIM people.

I am grateful that we have such an awesome owner who has transformed this franchise. But make no mistake, this is a baseball team, not a business. There are more than money and profits to consider here. Look at how Anaheimians acted (still act in part) over the whole L.A. of Anaheim thing....those people are going to do more than just flip out if Arte takes Orange County's team, their ORIGNAL team and move them.

If he's going to move them, maybe Arizona would like an American League team. Friends in Anaheim can forget I said that.

I just want someone to tell me who the team of impostors playing in Anaheim, in red uniforms, REALLY are as they are CERTAINLY not my beloved Angels. As far as Trumbomb, why do I feel a Napoli V 2.0 situation looming. Say what you want about Mike Napoli but I used to gripe about why was HE on the bench?? If he could get the AB's he'd be a MONSTER!! Nah, lets trade him and get Wells (not that I am not in FULL support of Wells these days) . Next thing you know, Texas gives Naps the AB's and what happens??? Oh not much but complete domination!! I know Sosh is here to stay and I will be the first one to admit that it's only April, but to ditto what Ms. Gabrielle has said... FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, PLEASE LET TRUMBO PLAY.

If Trumbo ends up, in fact becoming Napoli V2.0, especially if it goes the way of mashing for a hated rival, (anyone in the ALWest or East) , I may have to completely, officially and clinically definably, lose it .

If you didn't already know, Mr. Mike Trout has a 14 game hitting streak in full effect

The bully could be a weak link/Achillies heal but it also could be the surprise of the season. If Downs is Downs and if Walden improves as expected, I see no reason to think LaTroy will be a disappointment. It MIGHT not be so bad. Interesting my friend...allow me to retort:

I will simply expand upon your predictions and only add a few of my own

1. Dan Haren will finish above both, if not give Verlander a stronger run for his money than Weaver did last year. It would NOT shock me that Danny boy gets a No No either

2. Aybar stays....Callespo gets shipped off (with Bobby Wilson - Conger gets the bench/#2C spot) at the deadline when Trumbo (#7 subject), with some Albert mentoring, improves to the degree where he is the everyday 3B.

3. Totally agree - I have to dream that it would be CJ getting after Nap errily similar to Weaver/Guillen

4. Walden will shock alot of us...with his success. I have thought this since the offseason actually.

5. Not True

6. Not True - Mathis has a better shot of being a "Crash Davis/AAA" defensive mentor for some upcoming catching prospect that already knows how to hit.

7.See #2

8. Not sure if it will be Ervin, but I DO think a rotation this good IS subject to the chance of significant time on the DL somewhere.

9. You may be on to something (I will work the ballot box here in AZ)

I think Kendrys Morales will be in the MVP discussions

I think Trumbo will hit 30 HR

I think Wells & Torii will be twins, in that they will both be in the .265 avg/20HR/85+RBI range

I think Verlander goes on the DL and although dominant when he is pitching, will NOT repeat as AL CY

I think the DBacks DO make the playoffs, in fact, I'm calling for a DBacks vs. Angels WS...with the Angels winning it here in AZ and me being witness to it.

Well, Gabrielle, if this is your first piece on MWAH, very well done. If it is NOT your first full piece, my apologies for not noticing sooner.

My personal take on Texas for the 2012 season...they have got as close as a misplayed fly ball to right field by Nelson Cruz, to a Ring as they are going to get. I think that IF they are lucky, Yu will be a replacement to CJ, nothing more, nothing less. The Feliz move in my opinion weakens both their bully and rotation. Even if Nathan comes back to form, will Feliz really be that strong in the rotation? If Nathan flops with a +4.00 ERA like he did last year, then what are they going to do? Add to that the Angels having the most formidable "1-5" rotation in the AL, an improved & deep bullpen and a lineup that will include one of the best hitters alive that will in all likelyhood make everyone else better. Frankly speaking, I don't think the Rangers stand a chance...unless they just beat everybody in runs scored, which they CAN and MAY do again. But how did that work out for them in 2004/2005 & 2007/2008/2009??? yeah - I am a complete Angels homer, proud to be such, but it is time for the AL West to be returned, taken back, by its rightful owner, with authority and by force if need be.

The potential of what a 3-4-5 of Pujols, Morales & Trumbo could do is just an opportunity that is too good to miss out on. If Trumbo can't handle the 5, perhaps Hunter or a resurgent Wells can but right now that 3-4-5 combo is our best power lineup option.

Game 1 in Alberts reign was awesome. Everyone looked like they were not only loose but completely on fire and as if they couldn't wait to "get out of the gate". Bill Stoneman was in good spirits, sat next to me; Victor Rojas has a beautiful family, sat next to us AND his daughter took a picture of my wife, boy and I; Mrs. Pujols was in the front row of our section wearing a blinggy custom hat.

Last note, until the well runs dry, I will be selling Vernon Wells as Co- Comeback players of the year (with strong competition from Kendrys IF he does make it back)

@Rick K. Yeah Reagins needs to publish a tell all comic book errrr, graphic novel, regarding such issues. Am I correct in that the only truly positive things he had a part to play in was the extension to Weaver & stealing Haren?

@AngelsWin @coachtom966 @LAI've been trying to sell the "Kendrys is the key to our season" Kool Aid all winter...nice to see it LOOKS like it is catching on/panning out... I may have a 9 yr old girl and a 5 mo old boy in tow but bet your bottom dollar I will be at tempe Diablo on Saturday... there is NO cure for the cancer that Bobby Abreu is becoming. Can we DFA him or ANYTHING? Bobby is being a total party pooper on the whole "Kendrys is coming back/We got Pujols/Our rotation is the best in the AL" Spring 2012.

JeDi....handle this with the swiftness and cunning nature that you utilized in December <wink>

Scotty...thank you for this piece! It MADE my lunch hour! if you would have told me 15 years ago that the Angels would have such a culture about them, I would have bet the farm against you. Nice to see what the little club out of Anahiem has grown up to be. :,,)

the A's can have Callaspo IF they take Bobby too; we'll pay the shipping Mr. Beane, don't worry about it. I still say the "principals office visit" between Bobby, Soch & JeDi was just to buy time. I won't be shocked at ALL if BA is elsewhere before he is in Anaheim. I actually really like Speedy Petey in the leadoff if he can get a little better with the plate discipline/"strike zone management". I can hear "first to third with reckless abandon" already. As far as Molina is concerned I was thinking this morning how his game calling/catching skills wouldn't be a nice addition to the coaching staff. In his prime he was one of the premiere defensive catchers in the game. I'm stoked to see him back in Angel Red

@Rick K. When I first moved to AZ, someone said, and I will never forget "Arizona, the land of personal responsibility" . Say what you want about Arizona, but "Big Brother" carries a much larger stick in Cali than here...just sayin. Now, onto baseball :)

I tread lightly on the subject of Bobby Abreu, BUT, I think you are right on when he is being told he will get 400 PA to calm him down. I can see it now, when BA leaves the room, JeDi & Sosh look at one another and say "we didn't tell him those 400 PA's would be with the ANGELS...did we?"  . Let's face it the Halos are going to have to eat the contract (Thanks Reagins for such a profound move in your vesting option crud) . I think the fan base would much rather eat $9MM and have Trout get the AB's, if we NEED a 4th/5th OF. The team, I think would be more productive. Look Bobby has had a great career and who knows, maybe there is something left in the tank. Unfortunately, if he is going to be called into the principals office once a month for a calming down, it isn't fair to him or the team to keep him around.

@scottya_laai the #angels are a contender....but being West Coast kills such an idea I suppose. Too bad Roy, the champagne will be cold & sweet with or without ya!

@monkeywithahalo@kbrown2225 White Flag here, Mr. Brown. We here at MWAH really aren't as nasty as I came off; I was a poor representation of the MWAH class of followers today & very out of character today. I suppose my passion for Halos excellence gets the best of me, especially when I am deprived of baseball action for too long. Let's clean slate the whole thing and let me express a warm, Tempe style welcome to you. I hope you will visit the site & comment more often. Shoot, if you roll out to Tempe for some spring training and I am going to be at the game, I'll even buy ya a beer.

@kbrown2225 the "troll" tag was thrown out there because I see nothing but 6 comments on this blog in your history and all of them are Abreu related. In otherwords, my calling you out was somewhat justified....relax. Additionally, your name nor your profile have any real mentioning of Angel fandom. I was 100% wrong on my 8 doubles comment - I was reviewing the wrong stat, my bad. Nonetheless, I wish Bobby & his $9MM WOULD produce this season. It WOULD be a great insurance policy for the Trumbo/Morales situation. Unfortunately, even if one of those guys can't deliver as hoped, I don't feel Bobby is going to offer much more than they do. As far as "following the Angels for years"....great. If you are new to this blog, sorry for the seemingly rude welcome. Come in & contribute. I'll just say one thing about MY fandom....it was 1979, the Big A was in left field, it was a day game, it was overcast, it was against the Blue Jays and we won.
