Falla, really?! Santana??? Your wizardry knows no bounds!
All I have to say is, Have a Troutastic day :)
IF you have to move either of these guys, you'd have to make it Petey ONLY because he has more value right now. The return would have to be right as well. I think getting .289/.327/.431 out of K-Mo is better than what we got out of him last year, or frankly, more than what we expected from him this year. At any given at bat the guy can still blister a ball, although I get all shaky & twitchy when Sosh bats K-Mo behind Albert and before Trumbo but I flip flop on that myself.
Speaking of spiderman in your final paragraph, I would like to take this opportunity to include my opinion regarding all this mumbo jumbo mentioned in Angelsville about the freeing up of Torii Hunter money as if it were a foregone conclusion. I think Torii has more than shown that he can still produce. Furthermore, having one of the games most decorated soldiers, along with his fan favorite status, I can't understand why everyone is ok with the notion that Torii would ride off into the sunset as anything but an Angel.
I will offer an alternative endings to the Torii Hunter era:
1. We just win the whole thing this year and Torii pulls a Jerome Bettis and retires before they even parade down Katella.
2. We win it all this year and Torii takes a home town discount to try and win one more & pull a John Elway, retiring after a Back to Back to end his career
I know I should have saved this for a "What to do with the Torii Hunter situation" piece, BUT, I don't recall seeing one - Monkeys, please feel free
I say get him, no, I won't say it...I'll YELL IT...G E T H I M!!! Our offense, if performing the way it is supposed to, our bully is OVER performing, defense is fine; the one aspect of this team that is underperforming is the starting rotation that was "supposed" to be one of the best in the game. A solid arm to shore up the mess that is our roation after Weaver/Wilson would really, I think, put us over the top and more than legitimize our chances (and likelyhood) of catching and passing the Rangers. None of us REALLY want to play a "play in" game and passing the Rangers is the only way to avoid such a potential disaster. Furthermore, if 2011 Dan Haren comes back that would truly give us the best rotation in the game.
A 3 man, playoff rotation of Weave/C.J./Zack would be formidable, if not dominant. Additionally, with the team we appear to have for the foreseeable future, why would he NOT want to sign long term in Anaheim.
As far as who to send to Brew Town - start with Petey, he deserves to play daily. Throw in Hank if need be, we all know he is the child that will never gain the acceptance of the father that is Sosh. Furthermore, Ianetta will be back soon & Hester/Wilson ARE > Mathis. If Petey+Hank can't get it done, throw in a Andy Romine....just make sure to sign the kid long term, at LEAST 3 yrs
I hear Mr. Kazmir may be available - I actually did not say that :)
What I want to know is can anybody track down the Angels record when Trout A) has a multi-hit game & B) scores one or more runs. When Trout gets on base AND either Pujols or Trumbo are "on" we really are virtually unbeatable - or is that me and my fanboy glasses on??
Sorry GW...I could not read this all the way through. Who the h3ll is this Reagins guy ANYWAYS?? JeDi and his moves are all I care about now, well, that and the 8 game winning streak we are on with our Ranger friends on their way into a HOT Anaheim. 8 game winning straks don't come around very often, especially when a potential sweep of the Yankees is looming.
Haren said it best and I'm paraphrasing "we are just playing to our potential right now...we aren't doing anything special, just playing our game". And when the Angels are all clicking, not even the Yankees can stop us.
Haha nice and proper post...furthermore we are on national TV MLB Network. The more reasons we should an mean the more likely we are to lose...I pray that I'm wrong. Go Halos!!
listening now....I'm gunna have to find a way in on this action!
Going to give my first listen today mah brotha!
@John Brown Good point on the Napoli situation. I was trying to sell the "why is Mathis even here when we have Napoli" kool-aid and what happens, we send him to Toronto who after we do them the HUGE favor of taking ole Verno off their hands, they thank us by sending Naps to Texas. The Scioscia angle on this is his defiance (then & now) to play the better overall player for an allegience that makes no sense and is a detriment to the team. This explains PBJ sitting and Vernon playing. This explains AP STILL hitting in the 3 when if Trumbomb was, we'd probaly have at LEAST 3 more victories and MT would have at LEAST 10 more RBI's.
First of all God Bless y'all @MWAH for being able to follow AND write about our beloved team this year. I, for one, sincerely appreciate it. Secondly, wake me up when we are in second place. I too have no reason to rejoice a win that we should be able to count on when looking at the schedule. The only thing about Angels baseball that I even care about these days is all of the greatness that is the Trout & Trumbo show. Everything else, including-but not limited to- Pujols jacks & victories over lame teams (well ANY teams), are all gravy. Thirdly (is that a word) and finally, can we please start a campaign to get Trout & Trumbo on the All Star Team. Weaver and/or Wilson will make it on their own, but Trout isn't even on the ballot, is he? We need to make a HUGE effort because he completely deserves to be there.
As far as I am concerned let Harper have the ink. I think at the end of the day it is going to be known that Trout is the better ALL Around player. Remember, chicks dig the long ball and that's Harpers claim to fame. Shoot, he can mash out 50 for all I care, he wo't have trouts speed or fielding or overall hits/bases. We have the better guy - no question.
OR is it that we finally have a GM & Owner who in tandem, want to win and aren't going to sit around and wait for things to just happen. I MUST be reading this all wrong because I can't imagine that this is a complaint. As a matter of fact seeing Wells dropped/released will not shock me because our "outfield of the future" NEEDS to have PBJ & Trout in it - PERIOD. Additionally, if Torii doesn't come back or sucks when he does, Trumbo would only need to do so much in the field considering all the gound the Wonder Kids can cover. I don't think Sosh is going anywhere, which means that Pujols will stay in the 3 and we will lose potenial runs and games over his veteran loyalty program. That being said, I think Arte & JeDi are going to do everything they can to win...and win now. IF they do all the moves they can and we still suck, there will be only one glaring reason. How the people in power in Anaheim handle that, remains to be seen.
As far as "Would I have made the same moves?" Given all the same opportunities...HECK YEAH! A few changes/differences MAY have been:
*Abreu would have been gone 3 seconds after his "trust these people" comment
*Hatcher may have been replaced over the offseason if a solid enough canditade was available.
*Does Pujols appear to be a bust currently, sure, but I still would have made the move...ok, MAYBE I would have gotten Fielder (less yrs/less$$$) but one of the two WOULD have been an Angel by Christmas
In short, The JeDi has yet to make a move I HAVEN'T liked. Is that a problem?? Nope...not one bit.
@Rick K. Dude...I'm really sorry. I obviously had no idea. I'll keep you & yours in prayers.
@Rick K. Rick, you and I usually see eye to eye on things but, c'mon, "it's only a game"?? We wouldn't spend time on this site or on twitter or wherever we spend so much time ranting about Angels Baseball if it was only a game. As real FANS, it's part of who we are, it is part of the fabric of our being. Everytime I try and say (Crash Davis Style) "I quit... F*^k this F*^king Game", I find myself quickly coming back and asking "Who do we play tomorrow??"
Live by the sword die by the sword. Maybe I need professional help, I dunno. Always dig your feedback mah brotha!
You know what, HOW long has it been where an opposing pitcher who is making his big league debut, or first start back from a rehab assignment or a 1-3, 6.5+ ERA guy comes out and looks like the second coming of Cy Young???? The last few years it has been commonplace - maybe Hatcher keeps his job, it's likely that Scioscia is going nowhere...with Sosh at the helm its probable that AP will remain in the 3 for the next 9 seasons straight; all that being said, somethings gotta give.
Wow, well, I had no idea it was that bad. Unfortunately, I am drinking the Anti Scioscia Kool Aid. NOT because we are a crap team with SO much talent and payroll, but because of decsions like this. Petey batting .200 has aa better WAR than Wells because he can do more than Wells can. Even if it is only the facts that he can cover more ground in the field and go 1st to third ...better is better. Scioscia plays the vets regardless of what the stats show (case in point, 2011 Bobby Abreu) to the detriment of the team. he has been doing this for a few years now and I am of the opinion that it is all coming to a head.
You mentioned "swinging at career-high percentage of pitches out of the strike zone" and without looking at the stats this has to be a Pujols problem as well. Isn't that what a hitting coach is to notice, address and fix in a professional ball player?? Is swinging at bad pitches in the hopes of getting lucky something that Hatcher is teaching....because it sure looks like it to me.
A few questions for all of us Halo faithful to really ponder...Would Tito Francona allow such a thing? Does Mark McGuire have a more aggressive/hands on approach to taking hitters out of self induced, swinging at bad pitches slumps? Would LaRussa come out of retirement for a return the the West Coast? Is it just me or is this season painfully reminicent of a 2006 season where we had all the reason in the world to think the AL West was ours only to never gain the traction to put together a solid handful of winning months of baseball?
I am resigned to caring only that Mike Trout continues to dominate. Albert Booujols can tell everyone he wants to to be patient. Real easy to be patient w/$240 mm in your pocket. More so than that, with a talent base and payroll that we have coupled w/ our performance, I can no longer disagree with those yelling for Scioccia's head. Hey Tito, do you really like the Booth??? In closing I'll circle back to the only thing I care about, at this point, about the rest of this season. Two words...Mike Trout.
Devil: Be preparred to be made absolute fools of in Arlington. Look back to September 1998. We actually had a chance to bounce the Rangers of the top of the division and we were completely outclassed and embarrassed on national TV, in our own yard. Expect nothing less than that.
Angel: Facing the Rangers is exactly what we need to get this season back to some respectability. Winning this series, if not sweeping the Rangers in THEIR yard will be the first step in taking back the AL West. The first step towards putting an AL Team in the World Series that can actually win.
Devil: Yeah ha ha ha, keep dreaming. You still have the ball and chain that is Mr. Pujols on the roster. He is doing nothing for you now and will keep delivering nothing!
Angel: Let Albert work through this and come back to earth when he ios good & ready, in the meantime, we have the national stage set for us to display Mr. Mike Trout. He will do for us with his speed and ability to hit the baseball in the gaps, what needs to be done. A little splash of a resurgent Torii Hunter and it won't matter what Pujols does/doesn't do....Plus Darvish isn't going to last the season this way especially in Arlington and our two best pitchers give us a SOLID chance to take 2 of 3. Put that in your drink and stir it!!!
Devil...
Angel: Thats what I thought....let's do this!
