IF you have to move either of these guys, you'd have to make it Petey ONLY because he has more value right now. The return would have to be right as well. I think getting .289/.327/.431 out of K-Mo is better than what we got out of him last year, or frankly, more than what we expected from him this year. At any given at bat the guy can still blister a ball, although I get all shaky & twitchy when Sosh bats K-Mo behind Albert and before Trumbo but I flip flop on that myself.

Speaking of spiderman in your final paragraph, I would like to take this opportunity to include my opinion regarding all this mumbo jumbo mentioned in Angelsville about the freeing up of Torii Hunter money as if it were a foregone conclusion. I think Torii has more than shown that he can still produce. Furthermore, having one of the games most  decorated soldiers, along with his fan favorite status, I can't understand why everyone is ok with the notion that Torii would ride off into the sunset as anything but an Angel.

I will offer an alternative endings to the Torii Hunter era:

1. We just win the whole thing this year and Torii pulls a Jerome Bettis and retires before they even parade down Katella.

2. We win it all this year and Torii takes a home town discount to try and win one more & pull a John Elway, retiring after a Back to Back to end his career

I know I should have saved this for a "What to do with the Torii Hunter situation" piece, BUT, I don't recall seeing one - Monkeys, please feel free

I say get him, no, I won't say it...I'll  YELL IT...G E T   H I M!!! Our offense, if performing the way it is supposed to, our bully is OVER performing, defense is fine; the one aspect of this team that is underperforming is the starting rotation that was "supposed" to be one of the best in the game. A solid arm to shore up the mess that is our roation after Weaver/Wilson would really, I think, put us over the top and more than legitimize our chances (and likelyhood) of catching and passing the Rangers. None of us REALLY want to play a "play in" game and passing the Rangers is the only way to avoid such a potential disaster. Furthermore, if 2011 Dan Haren comes back that would truly give us  the best rotation in the game.

A 3 man, playoff rotation of Weave/C.J./Zack would be formidable, if not dominant. Additionally, with the team we appear to have for the foreseeable future, why would he NOT want to sign long term in Anaheim.

As far as who to send to Brew Town - start with Petey, he deserves to play daily. Throw in Hank if need be, we all know he is the child that will never gain the acceptance of the father that is Sosh. Furthermore, Ianetta will be back soon & Hester/Wilson ARE > Mathis. If Petey+Hank can't get it done, throw in a Andy Romine....just make sure to sign the kid long term, at LEAST 3 yrs

What I want to know is can anybody track down the Angels record when Trout A) has a multi-hit game & B) scores one or more runs. When Trout gets on base AND either Pujols or Trumbo are "on" we really are virtually unbeatable - or is that me and my fanboy glasses on??

Sorry GW...I could not read this all the way through. Who the h3ll is this Reagins guy ANYWAYS?? JeDi and his moves are all I care about now, well, that and the 8 game winning streak we are on with our Ranger friends on their way into a HOT Anaheim. 8 game winning straks don't come around very often, especially when a potential sweep of the Yankees is looming.

Haren said it best and I'm paraphrasing "we are just playing to our potential right now...we aren't doing anything special, just playing our game". And when the Angels are all clicking, not even the Yankees can stop us.

@John Brown Good point on the Napoli situation. I was trying to sell the "why is Mathis even here when we have Napoli" kool-aid and what happens, we send him to Toronto who after we do them the HUGE favor of taking ole Verno off their hands, they thank us by sending Naps to Texas. The Scioscia angle on this is his defiance (then & now) to play the better overall player for an allegience that makes no sense and is a detriment to the team. This explains PBJ sitting and Vernon playing. This explains AP STILL hitting in the 3 when if Trumbomb was, we'd probaly have at LEAST 3 more victories and MT would have at LEAST 10 more RBI's.

First of all God Bless y'all @MWAH for being able to follow AND write about our beloved team this year. I, for one, sincerely appreciate it. Secondly, wake me up when we are in second place. I too have no reason to rejoice a win that we should be able to count on when looking at the schedule. The only thing about Angels baseball that I even care about these days is all of the greatness that is the Trout & Trumbo show. Everything else, including-but not limited to- Pujols jacks & victories over lame teams (well ANY teams), are all gravy. Thirdly (is that a word) and finally, can we please start a campaign to get Trout & Trumbo on the All Star Team. Weaver and/or Wilson will make it on their own, but Trout isn't even on the ballot, is he? We need to make a HUGE effort because he completely deserves to be there.

As far as I am concerned let Harper have the ink. I think at the end of the day it is going to be known that Trout is the better ALL Around player. Remember, chicks dig the long ball and that's Harpers claim to fame. Shoot, he can mash out 50 for all I care, he wo't have trouts speed or fielding or overall hits/bases. We have the better guy - no question.

OR is it that we finally have a GM & Owner who in tandem, want to win and aren't going to sit around and wait for things to just happen. I MUST be reading this all wrong because I can't imagine that this is a complaint. As a matter of fact seeing Wells dropped/released will not shock me because our "outfield of the future" NEEDS to have PBJ & Trout in it - PERIOD. Additionally, if Torii doesn't come back or sucks when he does, Trumbo would only need to do so much in the field considering all the gound the Wonder Kids can cover. I don't think Sosh is going anywhere, which means that Pujols will stay in the 3 and we will lose potenial runs and games over his veteran loyalty program. That being said, I think Arte & JeDi are going to do everything they can to win...and win now. IF they do all the moves they can and we still suck, there will be only one glaring reason. How the people in power in Anaheim handle that, remains to be seen.

As far as "Would I have made the same moves?"  Given all the same opportunities...HECK YEAH! A few changes/differences MAY have been:

*Abreu would have been gone 3 seconds after his "trust these people" comment

*Hatcher may have been replaced over the offseason if a solid enough canditade was available.

*Does Pujols appear to be a bust currently, sure, but I still would have made the move...ok, MAYBE I would have gotten Fielder (less yrs/less$$$) but one of the two WOULD have been an Angel by Christmas

In short, The JeDi has yet to make a move I HAVEN'T liked. Is that a problem?? Nope...not one bit.

You know what, HOW long has it been where an opposing pitcher who is making his big league debut, or first start back from a rehab assignment or a 1-3, 6.5+ ERA guy comes out and looks like the second coming of Cy Young???? The last few years it has been commonplace - maybe Hatcher keeps his job, it's likely that Scioscia is going nowhere...with Sosh at the helm its probable that AP will remain in the 3 for the next 9 seasons straight; all that being said, somethings gotta give.

Wow, well, I had no idea it was that bad. Unfortunately, I am drinking the Anti Scioscia Kool Aid. NOT because we are a crap team with SO much talent and payroll, but because of decsions like this. Petey batting .200 has aa better WAR than Wells because he can do more than Wells can. Even if it is only the facts that he can cover more ground in the field and go 1st to third ...better is better. Scioscia plays the vets regardless of what the stats show (case in point, 2011 Bobby Abreu) to the detriment of the team. he has been doing this for a few years now and I am of the opinion that it is all coming to a head.

You mentioned "swinging at career-high percentage of pitches out of the strike zone" and without looking at the stats this has to be a Pujols problem as well. Isn't that what a hitting coach is to notice, address and fix in a professional ball player?? Is swinging at bad pitches in the hopes of getting lucky something that Hatcher is teaching....because it sure looks like it to me.

A few questions for all of us Halo faithful to really ponder...Would Tito Francona allow such a thing? Does Mark McGuire have a more aggressive/hands on approach to taking hitters out of self induced, swinging at bad pitches slumps? Would LaRussa come out of retirement for a return the the West Coast? Is it just me or is this season painfully reminicent of a 2006 season where we had all the reason in the world to think the AL West was ours only to never gain the traction to put together a solid handful of winning months of baseball?

I am resigned to caring only that Mike Trout continues to dominate. Albert Booujols can tell everyone he wants to to be patient. Real easy to be patient w/$240 mm in your pocket. More so than that, with a talent base and payroll that we have coupled w/ our performance, I can no longer disagree with those yelling for Scioccia's head. Hey Tito, do you really like the Booth??? In closing I'll circle back to the only thing I care about, at this point, about the rest of this season. Two words...Mike Trout.

Devil: Be preparred to be made absolute fools of in Arlington. Look back to September 1998. We actually had a chance to bounce the Rangers of the top of the division and we were completely outclassed and embarrassed on national TV, in our own yard. Expect nothing less than that.

Angel: Facing the Rangers is exactly what we need to get this season back to some respectability. Winning this series, if not sweeping the Rangers in THEIR yard will be the first step in taking back the AL West. The first step towards putting an AL Team in the World Series that can actually win.

Devil: Yeah ha ha ha, keep dreaming. You still have the ball and chain that is Mr. Pujols on the roster. He is doing nothing for you now and will keep delivering nothing!

Angel: Let Albert work through this and come back to earth when he ios good & ready, in the meantime, we have the national stage set for us to display Mr. Mike Trout. He will do for us with his speed and ability to hit the baseball in the gaps, what needs to be done. A little splash of a resurgent Torii Hunter and it won't matter what Pujols does/doesn't do....Plus Darvish isn't going to last the season this way especially in Arlington and our two best pitchers give us a SOLID chance to take 2 of 3. Put that in your drink and stir it!!!

Devil...

Angel: Thats what I thought....let's do this!

I was Mr. Optimistic yesterday and strive to continue...HOWEVER, Mr. Pujols, we HAVE a problem. I was discussing our $240MM man with a fellow Arizona based Halo's fan, and I am afraid that I am shortly going to become actually angry at this entire scenario. AP had a HUGE spring. None of us saw even the slightest hint of what has become a sub .200 display to date. You know, if he was hitting even .280 with a respectable 25 RBI, and his lone HR, we may be griping but at least there would be SOME production. Dude doesn't even have 25 HITS!!! Instead we have an "easy out, easy out" chant amongst the infield players around the American League. I am not yet boiling mad, but I am simmering. AP keeps saying be patient. If that is because he THINKS he knows who he is and is taking his 11 yr superstar numbers for granted. To paraphrase a NON quote "I'm Albert Pujols and have more HR than Mickey Mantle & more RBI that Ted Williams...I'll be fine" - if that's the case, we have a problem. IF he IS looking at video and he IS making adjustments, outside of shaving, everything SHOULD eventually work itself out. All I know is the "Machine" is batting a cool .190 and looks more like Jeff Mathis than Albert Pujols. This isn't about Home Runs...this is about production, in the middle of the line up, from someone who was supposed to be a HUGE piece of the "offensive woes" puzzle. I am a loss to the Twins and losing 2 of 3 to the Rangers away from a complete meltdown...hows that for optimism???

Ok, first of all, we ARE going to catch the Rangers...starting this weekend in Arlington. IT IS MAY!!!! Not August! Plus, ask the 1995 Mariners/Angels about DOUBLE DIGIT leads LATE in August. The Halos are starting to wipe the sleepy out of their eyes and when the sleeping giant awakens, the rest of baseball needs to watch out.

Secondly, I think the JeDi has already shown that not only are we built to win...NOW, but he isn't going to sit around and watch us flounder. Less than 30 games in the season, JeDi pulls, well a JEDI move to bolster the bully.

I know it hasn't happened yet, but when the arms/bats/gloves are all firing on all cylinders, we have all the talent and potential to not just be good...but absolutely DOMINANT!!

Lastly, God DOES care about baseball. Point #1, Mike Trout...Point 2, without complete nuisances like the Yankees & Red Sox for us to have rivalries with, where would the fun be?? Point 3...how else do you explain the Giants beating the Rangers in 2010. Point 4 the Rangers losing again last year. Point 5...Mike Trout

I will rest my case with those points for nopw, but welcome any detractors.

I may no longer be a resident of Southern California, but this troubles me deeply. Likely it is only an emotional reaction, one that I am more than proud to admit to. When ever people skoff at the LA of Anaheim moniker, I tell them "Look, I don't care what Arte calls the team, keep them winning, keep them red, and keep them in Anaheim and ALL is OK". If any of those change, then "Anaheim, we have a problem"!

Now look, "I get it". I get what a move to LA COULD/SHOULD mean. However, Orange County fans are NOT going to drive to LA 81 times a season. Which would mean Dodger fans who DO drive to that general location would have a choice to make...Dodgers or Angels? Believe me you Dodger fans are just as loyal to their team as Angels fans are to it's team. L.A. may have 3.8 MILLION people but they are DODGER people, NOT ANAHEIM people.

I am grateful that we have such an awesome owner who has transformed this franchise. But make no mistake, this is a baseball team, not a business. There are more than money and profits to consider here. Look at how Anaheimians acted (still act in part) over the whole L.A. of Anaheim thing....those people are going to do more than just flip out if Arte takes Orange County's team, their ORIGNAL team and move them.

If he's going to move them, maybe Arizona would like an American League team. Friends in Anaheim can forget I said that.

I just want someone to tell me who the team of impostors playing in Anaheim, in red uniforms, REALLY are as they are CERTAINLY not my beloved Angels. As far as Trumbomb, why do I feel a Napoli V 2.0 situation looming. Say what you want about Mike Napoli but I used to gripe about why was HE on the bench?? If he could get the AB's he'd be a MONSTER!! Nah, lets trade him and get Wells (not that I am not in FULL support of Wells these days) . Next thing you know, Texas gives Naps the AB's and what happens??? Oh not much but complete domination!! I know Sosh is here to stay and I will be the first one to admit that it's only April, but to ditto what Ms. Gabrielle has said... FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, PLEASE LET TRUMBO PLAY.

If Trumbo ends up, in fact becoming Napoli V2.0, especially if it goes the way of mashing for a hated rival, (anyone in the ALWest or East) , I may have to completely, officially and clinically definably, lose it .

If you didn't already know, Mr. Mike Trout has a 14 game hitting streak in full effect

The bully could be a weak link/Achillies heal but it also could be the surprise of the season. If Downs is Downs and if Walden improves as expected, I see no reason to think LaTroy will be a disappointment. It MIGHT not be so bad. Interesting my friend...allow me to retort:

I will simply expand upon your predictions and only add a few of my own

1. Dan Haren will finish above both, if not give Verlander a stronger run for his money than Weaver did last year. It would NOT shock me that Danny boy gets a No No either

2. Aybar stays....Callespo gets shipped off (with Bobby Wilson - Conger gets the bench/#2C spot) at the deadline when Trumbo (#7 subject), with some Albert mentoring, improves to the degree where he is the everyday 3B.

3. Totally agree - I have to dream that it would be CJ getting after Nap errily similar to Weaver/Guillen

4. Walden will shock alot of us...with his success. I have thought this since the offseason actually.

5. Not True

6. Not True - Mathis has a better shot of being a "Crash Davis/AAA" defensive mentor for some upcoming catching prospect that already knows how to hit.

7.See #2

8. Not sure if it will be Ervin, but I DO think a rotation this good IS subject to the chance of significant time on the DL somewhere.

9. You may be on to something (I will work the ballot box here in AZ)

I think Kendrys Morales will be in the MVP discussions

I think Trumbo will hit 30 HR

I think Wells & Torii will be twins, in that they will both be in the .265 avg/20HR/85+RBI range

I think Verlander goes on the DL and although dominant when he is pitching, will NOT repeat as AL CY

I think the DBacks DO make the playoffs, in fact, I'm calling for a DBacks vs. Angels WS...with the Angels winning it here in AZ and me being witness to it.

Well, Gabrielle, if this is your first piece on MWAH, very well done. If it is NOT your first full piece, my apologies for not noticing sooner.

My personal take on Texas for the 2012 season...they have got as close as a misplayed fly ball to right field by Nelson Cruz, to a Ring as they are going to get. I think that IF they are lucky, Yu will be a replacement to CJ, nothing more, nothing less. The Feliz move in my opinion weakens both their bully and rotation. Even if Nathan comes back to form, will Feliz really be that strong in the rotation? If Nathan flops with a +4.00 ERA like he did last year, then what are they going to do? Add to that the Angels having the most formidable "1-5" rotation in the AL, an improved & deep bullpen and a lineup that will include one of the best hitters alive that will in all likelyhood make everyone else better. Frankly speaking, I don't think the Rangers stand a chance...unless they just beat everybody in runs scored, which they CAN and MAY do again. But how did that work out for them in 2004/2005 & 2007/2008/2009??? yeah - I am a complete Angels homer, proud to be such, but it is time for the AL West to be returned, taken back, by its rightful owner, with authority and by force if need be.

Quick comment before I start my Wednesday, right now, unless some seriously attractive trades get mentioned, I am 100%, categorically against any move that takes Trumbo out of our lineup. ..period end of story. The potential of what a 3-4-5 of Pujols, Morales & Trumbo could do is just an opportunity that is too good to miss out on. If Trumbo can't handle the 5, perhaps Hunter or a resurgent Wells can but right now that 3-4-5 combo is our best power lineup option.

My first impression of the day however was Ianetta and the stolen Darin Erstad jersey he was wearing. I know, I bring up jersey numbers probably more than anyone, but it is just difficult to see a player who came through our system and play the best years of his career AND catch the final out of the World Series have his number handed out to a new kid on the block like it's old hat. Monkey, if I am not mistaken Darin is your favorite Angel, I imagine there will be some tough times watching someone else wear the #17.

Bill Stoneman was in good spirits, sat next to me; Victor Rojas has a beautiful family, sat next to us AND his daughter took a picture of my wife, boy and I; Mrs. Pujols was in the front row of our section wearing a blinggy custom hat.

Last note, until the well runs dry, I will be selling Vernon Wells as Co- Comeback players of the year (with strong competition from Kendrys IF he does make it back)

the A's can have Callaspo IF they take Bobby too; we'll pay the shipping Mr. Beane, don't worry about it. I still say the "principals office visit" between Bobby, Soch & JeDi was just to buy time. I won't be shocked at ALL if BA is elsewhere before he is in Anaheim. I actually really like Speedy Petey in the leadoff if he can get a little better with the plate discipline/"strike zone management". I can hear "first to third with reckless abandon" already. As far as Molina is concerned I was thinking this morning how his game calling/catching skills wouldn't be a nice addition to the coaching staff. In his prime he was one of the premiere defensive catchers in the game. I'm stoked to see him back in Angel Red

I tread lightly on the subject of Bobby Abreu, BUT, I think you are right on when he is being told he will get 400 PA to calm him down. I can see it now, when BA leaves the room, JeDi & Sosh look at one another and say "we didn't tell him those 400 PA's would be with the ANGELS...did we?"  . Let's face it the Halos are going to have to eat the contract (Thanks Reagins for such a profound move in your vesting option crud) . I think the fan base would much rather eat $9MM and have Trout get the AB's, if we NEED a 4th/5th OF. The team, I think would be more productive. Look Bobby has had a great career and who knows, maybe there is something left in the tank. Unfortunately, if he is going to be called into the principals office once a month for a calming down, it isn't fair to him or the team to keep him around.

I was 100% wrong on my 8 doubles comment - I was reviewing the wrong stat, my bad. Nonetheless, I wish Bobby & his $9MM WOULD produce this season. It WOULD be a great insurance policy for the Trumbo/Morales situation. Unfortunately, even if one of those guys can't deliver as hoped, I don't feel Bobby is going to offer much more than they do. As far as "following the Angels for years"....great. If you are new to this blog, sorry for the seemingly rude welcome. Come in & contribute. In similar fashion to the 2002 season, the Angels will win the World Series going into the playoffs with a league leading team batting average. Kendrick, Hunter, Wells, Trumbo, & Morales will ALL contribute more than expected (Pujols will just be Pujols, ho hum) and we will beat teams by, as Garret Anderson said best , "hitting them to death...you can't defense line drives..." . My thoughts after reading/viewing most of the articles...Trumbo is our insurance policy to Morales, period. Furthermore if he AND Kendrys can hit this season, keep them BOTH! How long have we needed an impact bat, well now we could have a solid pair of them, if not a half dozen! Add them to a line up of "what ifs" & this could be Murders Row West...In no particular order consider all these previously documented scenarios...

Torii in a contract year, coming off a monster 2nd 1/2, WITH Pujols behind him,

Kendrick will be better with Pujols in the line up,

then Pujols himself, especially if he is protected by a rebounding Morales AND Trumbo?

Then add a "new perspective/working with a wizard of hitting coaches" Vernon Wells

Such a line up AND even a rotation with Williams/Richards and Texas wouldn't even be CLOSE to how BOSS we could/should be.

Lifelong Angels Fan - "IF" is a staple of my vocabulary.

If Frank would have won out...

I imagine that we would be back to the days when you could walk up to the ticket window an hour before the game and get an aisle seat, in the right field pavilion, within a dozen rows of front row (of course by the 3rd inning you'd be able to move up to prime home run catching territor - row 5 or 6)...in other words, we'd be lucky to hit 2 million annually and 3 million wouldn't even be in the conversation.

We would once again be a laughing stock of the league only finishing in 2nd place in a weak division every few years and even then be out by 10+ games.

Our 2002 run would have been considered a MAJOR fluke and possibly would have questioned the integrity of the entire game. Possibly ending the Wild Card experiment (sarcastic exaggeration)

Perhaps Arte would have restored the Dodgers back to their O'Malley days reputation by luring Scioscia back and thus bringing back to life a fan base who longed for alumni representation.

Everything the Angels have done since Arte, the Dodgers would have done, less the GMJ & Wells deal, because Arte would have had a MUCH better GM .

Lastly and completely unrelated....Hey Butcher, give up the 23 for Trouty OR Trouty, bring some honor to the numbers 18, 19 or 20...

Mr. Monkey, my first thought when I saw this article was to toss my computer as if roaches had infested it. I must admit though that as I read, my gratitude towards Disney and Arte was reinvigorated. No offense to those who are, but "Ralley Monkey fans", aka, fans who jumped on the bandwagon in 2002 (thanks for sticking around) have no idea how good they have it under Arte. The cowboy did his best and was beloved by fans who have been around since the 70's and earlier; Disney was great in thought but it never REALLY worked out the way we may have hoped. I mean, Disney was "Microsoftesque" in the mid 90's so them being the owners, I for one, expected a Space Mountain sized wad of cash going towards the best players money could buy. What we got WAS a better than nice renovation that took us from the enclosed, football friendly Anaheim Stadium to a beautiful baseball only Angels Stadium of Anaheim. My point is that this franchise has never seen the levels of admiration & respect that it does now. The Angels are bonified team & perinal contender. Sure there will be an off year or two, but even during the 79-86 "run" we weren't as competitive as we are now (to be continued)

SWEET!! Look ma...I made the paper!!! I have to clock back in from lunch and will have to address this further with more in depth thought BUT #27 HAS to go...20 is the easy solution. I like the thought of keeping it in the teens to go with the Salmon, Erstad, Anderson vein, excluding 13, because Trouty can't wear the same number as AFraud and 14 because well, I don't think Sosh would/needs to give it up. So, to stay in the teens, it would have to be 19 because as you mentioned, Romine has 18.

Very interesting & perplexing topic - I'm glad I thought of it. While I'm at it....Hank needs to take of Garret Anderson's jersey. I ain't mad at ya Hank, but, all due respect....it is just wrong. GA holds virtually every offensive record in #Angels history. #16 & #15 BOTH need to be retired & #27 will go into the HOF as the first Halo so....there @trouty20 @hankconger16 @tomcoach966

ALL that being said, what # should Prince Fish, errr Mr. Trout bear??? 15, 16, 17 are "taken", 25 fits PBJ, 1 is too pretentious. Maybe 2??? @rmfalla Ryno! Nice piece, as always. My thoughts on such a topic. "They" expect the Yankees to try and "buy" their rings and you know what, how many have they REALLY bought? The ARod "purchase" didn't do it alone, they had to keep going until they could "buy" CC/Tex/AJ. We should all be inteligent enough to understand (Boston fans exclooded uv korse for oveyus reesons) that "Baseballs Best Team" in any given year rarely wins the whole thing. Its about getting into the playoffs on a hot streak and continuing that streak. That being said, you have to have the right tools to get on that streak, and I think the Angels are a Madson signing away from having all the tools they need (although a healthy Trumbo with a better than average 3B defense would really nail it down).

@LOVEMYANGELS What you say MAY have some merit however Arte didn't sign Vladdy (NO disrespect to Vladdy at ALL) to a 10 year contract AND a 10 year post playing career contract either. Vladdy was, in my opinion, at the time, the biggest signing in Angels history and he was largely responsible for what I like to call the Angels "Golden Years" or "Glory Days" of 2004-2009. The Angels got the last of Vlad's awesomeness and when the contract was up, we didn't renew because he was just not the same. He may have done decent in Texas but what did he do in Baltimore and what will he do now... a mere two years later.

Albert's gunna be in Anaheim for the next 20 years, we all need to get used to it. It is a completely new era in Angels Baseball!

Personally ANY trade talks need to end with the mention of Ervin Santana. I REALLY think our rotation is vital to a return of a Red October. Trumbo needs to be working 8 hours a day doing 3B drills and we need to get a proven closer back. I am very happy about Latroy but a closer he is not. This may/may not be a popular idea, but I am ALL about bringing KRod back. for a 2-3 year stint. percy was behind Lee Smith for a few years and we can all agree that Walden was put into the closer role too fast, to the tune of how many blown saves last year???

Trumbo @ 3rd...bring KRod back and unless you want to do an Aybar/Hanley deal w/maybe a good NON Conger/Trout prospect, I say keep things as is.

GREAT list MWAH!!

May I include to #5 the Yankees, Red Sox. With the Red Sox getting more hatred because 1, they're Boston and 2, we have shown since the Torre years that the Yankees (except for 2009) are more/less our playoffs whipping boys. Finally, if you make the switch from Dodger Blue to Angel Red, all Dodger gear needs to find its way to your nearest Goodwill store. Being a REAL fan is a commitment. In my opinion, if you can't follow the above rules, you need not get on the bandwagon - we have 3 million + fans annually that although a good portion of them are Ralley Monkey fans (aka fans that only became fans since 2002/because of the World Series)...at least they have stuck around.

If you want what "they" have, do what "they" do..."they" being the two teams that represented the American league in 4 times in the last 10 years. "They" have gone to the big dance two times a piece and we have gone once. "They" play in arguably the most competitive division in the game, we have a 4 team division that is really more like a 2 1/2 team division, depending on which Oakland team shows up. "They" dominate baseball news on any day that there IS baseball news. "They" are the Yankees and Red Sux, sorry for the typo. "They" are Cashman & Epstein. I know it is a real simpleton way to look at it but why muddy the waters - call a spade a spade - just get one of them, so we can move out of this funk and bring a few more rings to this franchise that we all love so much.

D. Fire Reagins for letting the Rangers get not one, but BOTH of the best BP arms on the market! When you were in your mid 20's killing it with the ladies, did you let some 21 yr old punk who just had some decent success landing the head cheerleader and almost making it with her (read: getting to the World Series for the first time in your 200 year franchise history) come in and take the 2 honeys you were eyballing, right from underneath you?!

Look I know we don't have much on the farm to have traded away. Shoot, we SHOULD be about 15 games better than we are now (if Torii/Wells/Abreu have even simply sub par seasons, as opposed to/close to, career lows AND/OR if the early season bullpen didn't blow a dozen save ops). My point is, Texas made us look like a buncha passive babies. They just HANDLED it.

When all is said and done we have 10 more games against the Rangers, a favorable schedule, and a manager who seems to get the most out of what he is given to work with, moreso than any skipper in the game. I STILL think that with a little luck and even just a steady simmer from the offense, we will take the West; with a 3 man rotation of Weaver/Haren/Santana, the Angels could be the cinderella story of the 2011 post season.

I feel as if there is some reason that I am crazy for saying this but will say it anyways....we traded Mike Naopli WHY??? He wasn't a horrible catcher and his offense in 10 ab's outweighs Jeff Mendoza, errr Mathis in 50 ab's.

I hate the Boston red Sox more than anything. Not more than any team in baseball....more than ANYTHING. As if 1986 wasn't harmful enough (the scar will never fully heal); I was a 13 year old young boy at the time and , well, lets not talk anymore about it - I'm starting to twitch. But 2004, 2007 and 2008 were on the biggest of stages, and Boston punking us in the worst of ways. ESPECIALLY at home in 2008 and their fans being complete morons (putting it angelically). yeah...HATE HATE HATE Boston - BUCK FOSTON!!!

Now, Texas, I don't like them but it is kind of "whatever", sure they have Nolan but he wanted them, not the Angels so screw'm both in my opinion (I DO hope Nolan recovers quickly) The ONLY success they have had in the post season was last year. Their Pudge/Juan Gonzales days were a laughing stock. We have a ring, they are one of what 3 franchises to never have won a World Series??

@Rick K. "Now it matters" is a crock....another reason the palyoffs COULD benefit from a restructuring. Should be best record, between the 2 teams left, should get home field. We all know it will never go that way though.

I am a former ballot box stuffer. In my late teens, early 20's I actually had a small wooden board, with a nail on it and I would poke through 100's of ballots at a time. I, personally, loathe how much of a celebrity contest the ASG has become. I think the REAL BASEBALL fans would MUCH rather have THEE BEST 2 or 3 players at each position, in each league, play in the game, regardless of name or team. Sure, having a representative from each team would be great, and likely would need to find a way to make that happen, but you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned Russell Martin/.238/leading at his position. This year, the only Halo's that really "deserve" to be there are Weaver & Haren. They are the two best players on our team and the ONLY reason we REALLY have any hope this year (I will take on any arguements against that claim) . Anyways, I have not voted like I should have, and will have to make a point to do so. I will be a total homer and vote for nothing but Angels, seeing as this is only a popularity contest anyways.

Rick, I have to disagree with you on this one. Boras is Boars, but Weaver has enough integrity to keep him a Halo. Maybe I'm wrong but I think he is Angels player #2 to come up with the team, play his enitre career with the team and win a championship with the team. No, I'm NOT drinking my lunch. Ke Rosenthat (although I like his info MOST of the time) needs to shut his filthy mouth....Weaver to the Yankees, BLASPHEMY!!!

Coming from the Monkey, I'm impressed. Once again I have to agree with you, as difficult as it may be to be in one season and look forward to the next season is. As a fan you HAVE to believe they will make a legitimate run at not looking so lame. "6-14" started in Seattle, why not 2001??

@rmfalla My young padewah much to learn you have. LOL from 1986 to 2001 it ALWAYS ended with a "wait til next year". Back then you could walk up, 90 minutes before first pitch, get an aisle seat between 5 & 10 rows back, in right field. Back then, the 'victories' were much smaller, as were the expectations. This organization has been experiencing it's "Glory Days" since 2002. Will Tony & Co. continue the trend, or will those of us who weathered the previous storms, going to have to help those who know no better, how to do so? Time will tell. ALL that being said...I always have and always will, live and die with this team...No Matter What. It's what being a TRUE fan is all about.

Ya know, I am not yet to the point of desensitization (is that a word?). Being a "hard core" since 1979 gives me as a fan certain rights. One of which is to bitch as loud as you cheer. This garbage called Angels Baseball (as of late) has me VERY sensitized! I am SO tired of the "let's not panic" rhetoric. We have ONE chamionship in 50 years of existance and right now, it looks like we'll wait another 50 for ring #2...I don't have that long Tony!!! When I think of "big" moves the Angels have made since 2002, I think of 3 situations. 1) Signing Vlad AND Colon during the same offseason when BOTH were prime, 2) Getting Teixeria 3) Stealing Haren from my local bretheren here in AZ. Outside of that, nothing!! Outside of Trout, the starting roation, Speedy Petey and Trumbo (MAYBE Howie), the whole team can get traded for all I care. I'm sick of the extra innings giving me blue balls, I'm WAY sick of Fraudney and Sosh's insistence on bringing him into close ball games AND Jeff Mathis even being ON this team!!

Make a deal! Get some sticks!! Get this thing done or just have a fire sale and rebuild and put us fans out of our misery.

Garrett, I think your bet regarding 5+ runs and 3 wins in a row is a safe one...

I brought out my Anaheim Angels giveaway towel from 2002 trying to drum up some positive vibes...

I love this damned team

I'm OUT!

Just putting it out there...as a fan, I'm getting pissed off. Can we recruit players by RISP%?? Why is Mathis still taking up bench space? Why is it that every time Danny Haren pitches, the bats suck even worse than they typically do? If defense & pitching win championships, we'll have a fighting chance in the playoffs...BUT we HAVE to hit to get there and this middle of te road nonsense isn't going to get us any betterthan we were last year. Somethings gotta give....unless Reagins & Co. are OK with a fan base gaining frustration with every shutout or loss where we score less than 3 runs. Sheesh, I've only been able to watch maybe 4 games this year and am 6 hours from Anahiem; I'm afraid of what would happen if I was actually in Orange County

I REALLY need to quit looking at www.angelsbaseball.com even before my alarm goes off at 5:00 am every morning. @tomcoach966 @monkeywithahalo So, last night about 10pm I'm on my way to dreamland and Howie puts us into the lead late in the game. I put my gameday enabled phone away and nestle into bed. I wake up, see a 5-4 loss, and with another "L" next to his name I see Fraudney. NOT the way I wanted to wake up. Not the way my wife and dog wanted to wake up either as I spewed a half dozen "frickn frackn flithin fouln flithin mother father suns over the beaches" at 5:30am.

MWAH, can I get odds on a "mystery injury" sending the Fraud to the DL?? On one side you have Sosh's loyalties; I still feel lucky that Kaz was DL'd when he had an entire winter to get right. On the other, his performance more than warrants some splintered pants.

Why when we get late inning clutch hitting does the bullpen feel obligated to give the game away?

3 years, 2 months ago on Game Recap 5/16/11: Is Anyone Surprised? - Angels 4 Athletics 5 | May

I gotta say as good as the "mate" from downunda is doing overall, I have to agree that Downs and his effectiveness AND experience deserve the shot. Can we package Fraudney AND Kaz in the same deal??? Kinda kidding...but only because such a deal is like asking a team to take two pieces of dung off our hand, instead of just one.

if he carries on like this, the team MVP award may be a 3 way tie between Weaver/Haren/Bourjos. For the record, the Halos are 2-0 in my "black out" experiment. No gameday, no baseball tonight, no scoreboard checking until the morning AFTER . I like how "they" have been saying how weak the Angels farm system looked for the last few years - weak or not those who are coming up, that DON'T have the last name of Wood, are producing. Could this be the 2nd coming of the Salmon/Edmonds/Anderson/Percival/Erstad/Glaus wave???

Monkey, as you know you are my lunchtime Halo Info read (well this and the mighty Twit Monster) - have been since the mid off season 2010/2011. You have said many things I applauded, some I sneered (Garret Anderson) , but ultimately I follow your insight on all things Angels because "you have a take, and you don't suck" (where have I heard that before???) ANYWHO, my point here is this is by far the best article you have written. I absolutely 100% agree with you. Arte should just invite the kid over to his house for dinner, hand him a blank check and let him know he is an Angel as long as he wants to be one, for as much as he feels is fair. Screw Lucifers pet, errrr, Scott Boras - Screw Tony "what have you done for me since the Haren heist?" Reagins. Just get the deal done!! Great read Garret (one "T"...get it ;) LOL)
